Yea, I think for most of the day I hover around 5'9.25", so I guess I can say 5'9"-5'9.5". I think most people probably shrink between .75"-1" during a normal day...but I know I lose a good amount of height really quickly. After an hour I'm already down to like 5'9.5"-5'9.75". Thanks for the comments...this site is sweet for height nitpickers like me.

Well I,m 5'10" 1/3 (178.8cm)out of bed, like one minute after waking up. After 1 hour I´m 5'10" (177,8cm). I´ve noticed that I lose more height while in a sitting position rather than standing. Like If use the computer for 8 hours I will be 5'9" 1/4 (176cm) in the evening, otherwhise I will be closer to 5'9" 1/2 (176,5cm). If I lie for 1 hour I usually recover 0,5cm and will be 177cm. So I can lose more than 1 inch during a day. I usually tell people I´m 176cm, which is my evening height. It doesn´t seens fair to use morning height as it falls fast along the day, unless you are lying on a bed most of the time. Korben says on 4/May/09
194.5 in the morning 192-193 depending on what Ive been doing during the day at night. I call myself 6'4 as im 193 most of it, but sometimes sneak in the "and a half" lol Big King says on 2/Apr/09
Well, I stand slightly over 6'6" or 198,4cm out of bed. After at least one hour I'm down at 197,5cm (6'5.75) and after three hours I'm 197cm (6'5.5"), In the evening I'm slightly under 197cm. I first used to take my morning height 6'6" but then I unfortunately noticed that it makes more sence to take my height as 6'5.5" or 197cm. But I still think that it is fair enough to use the morning height because most measurements are in the morning, about one hour after being awake like in the physical examinations in school for example. School starts at 8 a.m. and most students get up at 7 a.m. for school and they get measured in the first hour at 8 a.m. Also the most measurements at the doctor are in the forenoon about 2 hours after being awake. So using the morning height is fair enough but unfortunately you don't have that height for the rest of the day. So I sometimes claim my height as 6'6" or 198cm and if I notice that someone downgrades his height then I just replay 197cm and I take my lowest height. dani says on 1/Mar/09
I measured myself and im 5'115 or 181.50 centimeters and im 5'1050 or 179cm at the end of the day. I lose 2.5 centimeters. dani says on 1/Mar/09
Lloyd, i think it's reasonable.You gotta claim the average(5'9 1/2). k mart says on 4/Feb/09
Anonymous is right.. your morning height is your true height.... I am 6ft 3.5 in tall for the majority of the day... at night i sit right under 6ft 3in by 1/4in.. so when people ask how tall i am i tell them i am 6ft 3.5in!!!! GF says on 18/Jan/09
lloyd, that's crazy. Those are all EXACTLY my heights and at the EXACT same times of day. Wow. I would claim either your morning height or your mid day height when people will see you. Never your before bed height. The fact is 99% of people don't even know we fluctuate height anyway. I've even spoken to Doctors that didn't know. lloyd says on 14/Aug/08
I'm 5'10 straight out of bed, after 5 hours I'm 5'9 1/2...but right before bed (after 16 hours) I'm 5'9 1/4. This is on a normal day where I'm standing and walking around a typical amount of time. If I lay around most of the day, I will still be 5'9 1/2 before I go to bed...but if I'm on my feet all day or doing a lot of physical activity I will shrink down to 5'9. I usually claim 5'9 1/2 for my height (used to claim 5'10). Is that reasonable or should I say 5'9? Alex says on 14/Jul/08
I am 6'0.75 right out of bed, 6'0.5 shortly after and 6'0-6'0.25 after being up for 5-6 hours. At times I can get down to 5'11.75 after being up for like 10 hours and on my feet all day working. Anonymous says on 21/Nov/07
im 5' 10 . 25 in the morning but i shrink to 5' 9 flat before going to bed. Anonymous says on 22/Jul/06
My doctor told me you should always always weight and measure yourself first thing in the morning. I've never heard of this '5 hours standing' thing before - sounds strange to me. And besides, the only reason we 'shrink' during the day is because after we've been standing up for a while we lose our posture and our spines compress a little more. So keep standing tall with your shoulders back and theres really no reason for it to change all that much. Smoke says on 21/May/06
So which is the real height then the morning afternoon or evening. I mean at the end of the day if you weigh yourself in the morning that is your real wait since you have not had food which would make you heavier. Why should height be any diferent? kingk says on 28/Mar/06
don't break my confidence!1 lol. I'm almost 15 and im 5'9" 1/2 but when i wake up i'm 5'101/4 or so.. Tall Guy says on 1/Mar/06
I measured my height a couple of week's ago. Immediately after bed, I was 193.5cm, after 1 hour, I was 192.5, and right before I go to bed again, I was around 191.5-192cm Gossip says on 13/Jan/06
I didnt know that happened. I just guess I dont measure my height first thing in the morning... Antonio says on 28/Nov/05
I love this article. When I immediately get out of bed, I'm 5'10''(178cm). When I noticed this I got scared, I couldn't believe it. I'm originally 5'9''(176cm). I'm still 16 years old though. I got really happy when I first noticed it, but when I noticed I wasn't as tall in the evening I got so pissed. I studied this for about a week. So I lose about 2-3cm after I wake up.
When I'm in school I notice kids a bit taller than me, the next day I'm taller than them with the same shoes too(both of us), it goes on like a chain. My doctor told me I'm going to be around 6ft. Science is so amazing. CelebHeights Editor says on 15/Sep/05
I'm pretty sure the younger you are the more likely there will be more 'shrinkage'. In my own case, nearly 30 the very first thing (literally 10 seconds from jumping out of bed) I am 174.2cm. The lowest I measure in the evening is basically bang on the 172.7-8 cm mark. So I lose 1.4cm. Some people surprisingly can lose an inch. I think the average is probably 1/2 inch but I don't know any studies that have done such measurements properly... Anonymous says on 14/Sep/05
To Rob - On average, how much height do you lose from morning to evening? A half an inch? One centimeter? |
