I had a chance to meet the entire band, get autographs, etc.. I'm 5'6" Bono was at the most 5'7" but given his shoes I'd say he is actually 5'6". I think The Edge was probably 5'5". All of them were pretty short, I think maybe Adam Clayton was the tallest if memory serves me correctly although this was in '97.
They were all really nice guys, especially Bono.

People are so gullible about short celebrities and height. Bono wears elevator shoes with 4 inch visible soles everywhere in concert and he's still an absolute midget. If you look closely at his ridiculously sized elevator shoes you can see the image of his foot on an incline at the back. Those shoes give him 6" in height.

I've stood beside Bono at least a half a dozen times over the last 20 years. He is certainly closer to 5'4" than 5'6" or more. My wife is about 5'5" in regular shoes and they see eye to eye with him wearing elevated soles. FWIW. Shan says on 19/Jul/11

I once stood next 2 Bono in a club. My niece was with me, who's 5'4" & trust me, man, he was not taller than her & he had on the platforms. You can see that photo with Ali; who appears 2b about 5'1" with low shoes that he's only a few inches taller & he has on the lifts there too!
No way is he near 5'7 or 5'8". Definitely 5'3" 5'4; 5'5 at the very tops. He's a midget; so to speak, for a guy. But, a great, great singer. He also tends to be alittle bow-legged, but so what, it gives him roughness. Look at people like Chrissie Hynde, so is she, yet she's cooler than ****. She walks on stage & blows your mind away. Edge is about 5'9" in shoes; Larry in his Creepers (with 2 inch platform) is slightly shorter than him - maybe 5'8'5" - so he is about 5'6.5" barefoot. Bono in high heels is about 4 cm. shorter than Larry, so he is about 5'5" barefoot. Adam should be around 5'10".

I met the band on several occasions; for my part, my height is 172cm.
Beside them last year, I managed to make an approximation for their sizes (although for two of the group, I have simply asked them ;) )
Bono: 164/167cm

Bono is short. I'm not tall at 5'8" and I've stood next to Bono on two occasions. Once in Judge Roy Beans (club in Dublin) and another time in the bar at The Clarance Hotel (also in Dublin and owned by U2) with the guys from 451. I can tell you that Bono was a good 3 to 4 inches shorter than me. |
