Delon's character in Farewell, Friend (1968) was described by police as 5 feet 10 and a half, and in the French version as 1m82. 5'10" flat is right on the money though, he could look 5'9.75" at times and 5'10.25" at other times, at his peak. By Frank Riva, Delon was starting to noticeably dip under 5'10" as he was about half an inch shorter than 5'10" Sophie Von Kessel. Today, aged 87, Delon is most probably 5'9" range, closing in on 5'8" range.

He was never 5’11+. In fact, even the full 5’10 is still debatable. People his height can get away with an inch or two on claim if they have the proportions or charisma as you put it.. Mr. Tom Ripley has both. Hence the 180 and 183 claims (@Sinclair’s finds).

Nice find Sinclair! 👏🏼 The height of Delon is always special. From what I was able to compare, his height never moved at least until 2015. I mean in 2015 it was still 5ft10 without any hesitation. Or he had a peak above 5ft11.
In any case I know that charisma makes you look taller. Wear a suit also makes look taller.

💥💥 Alain Delon is about 5.10 on shoes and 5.9 flat. Stars like Stallone, Richard Gere, Alain Delon, Wesley Snipes are about 5.10 with shoes on and at most 5.9 or weak 5.9 flat. Stantham is 1 cm shorter and Mel Gibson 1 cm taller. Stars like them that are icons of masculinity or beauty don’t wear lifts, but they usally wear 3 cm shoes. They don’t lie about their height but they give their best height on shoes when they are asked. Personally I am 5.8 flat and 5.9 plus (or 5.9 1/2 in the middle of the day wearing suit shoes. Antonio Banderas is as tall as I or 1 cm shorter and Tom Cruise about 1 cm shorter than Banderas. After having seen several times The Leopard (1962) I think something is wrong between Delon and Lancaster, the height shown in celebheight of one of them is clearly wrong and in this photo it is clearly seen. On average between the line of the eyes and the end of the head there are about 10-12 centimeters and here it is clearly seen that if Delon is 178 cm tall , Lancaster is more than 185 cm. Personally I think that Delon is less than 178 cm.

I’m requesting a page for legendary French performer, Jean-Claude Brialy. A massive new-wave star of the French cinema, he acted in iconic French films like The Bride Wore Black, Claire’s Knee, The Judge and the Assassin, Queen Margot, Le Beau Serge, Christine, The Phantom of Liberty, Holy Year, The Cousins and Elevator to the Gallows. As we know, Brialy was at least half an inch taller than Alain Delon in Christine so I’d have to award Brialy 5’10.25”; if Brialy was a flat 5’10”, Delon could have never surpassed 5’9.5”. Let me know what you think about Brialy’s height here, Rob.

Remember there is only a five year age difference between these two and a 5’11.75” male falling to 5’7.75” by 72 years of age is unbelievable! Leroy did look near six feet with Gina Lollobrigida in Buona Sera Mrs Campbell.

Completely agree with 180cm for a footwear listing, Delon only wore big shoes which would have given him at least 2.5cm, hence Delon could round up to 180cm or be right on it with his large footwear. I won’t squabble over a quarter of an inch, everyone else on here seems to think Delon was indeed a full 5’10”, I just remember chuckling at the full 5’10” for Delon at times, such as the opening of Borsalino, his walk on in Joy House, a bedroom scene in The Sicilian Clan and him standing next to 5’10” Jean-Claude Brialy in Christine, looking a clear inch shorter.

Glad to see the love for French cinema (and classics at that too). Great observations by Sinclair.

I think Delon’s previous listing was around where his height ranged, but this current listing at 5’10 meets the mark through and through. In Purple Noon, he looks taller amongst crowds. Not sure what the average height of France in the 1960s were, but I would assume it would be a little lower than today’s. He seems above average by those standards, so I would say 5’10 would be the equivalent of 5’11-6’ these days.
He has a solid frame and 5’10 would make sense if he claimed footwear height (i.e, passport in The Sicilian Clan). He has also appeared slightly taller next to Belmondo, though not by much.

It’s interesting that Brialy is listed only at 5’9” everywhere when he can sometimes look an inch taller than Delon in Christine. Even accounting for Brialy’s superior posture in that film, he still has a clear edge on Delon. However, I recall Brialy’s footwear was bulky, maybe that gave him a slight advantage. Delon really only looked around 5’9.5” in Christine.

Good to see Sinclair you've been watching some of those films, there's some classics in there. Not many watch ones like that anymore. Looks like I was right in some of my old posts and we were too high with Belmondo. Delon didn't look under 5'10 with Charles Bronson. Rob won't have heard of a lot of those actors Sinclair! Jean Gabin was one of the big names in French cinema, I don't think Rob is adding many new older ones now though, given the traffic I don't blame him.

I’d have to admit that the height difference between Delon and Belmondo in “Is Paris Burning?” was very minimal, despite Delon’s clear advantage in Borsalino. In Mr. Klein and Rocco and His Brothers, Delon could have also passed for 5’10” but in Plein Soleil, Delon looks shorter than a real 5’10” guy would look, especially if you consider his slim build. Overall, Belmondo often stood out at a pinch above 5’9” and Delon half an inch taller, verging but not quite reaching the full 5’10”. No doubt Delon at peak was closer to 177 than 178, but was he closer to 176 or 178? I’d have to say the latter, with 5’9.75” (177.2cm) as the perfect estimate.

Delon could pass for 5’10” in L’homme pressé, Les aventuriers, Le Samourai, Lost Command and even Frank Riva (he often favoured big footwear on screen). However, in many of his early films (Joy House, Eclipse, La Piscine, Once a Thief, The Sicilian Clan, The Leopard and even the opening scene of Borsalino), if anything, he looks more 5’9.5” than 5’10”. Delon was still definitely more 5’10” than 5’9” in his youth, whilst Jean-Paul Belmondo was probably more 5’9” than 5’10”. However, was Delon really a whole seven feet taller than 5’3” Romy Schneider in La Piscine?

Delon has kept onto his height rather well into old age. At Belmondo’s funeral last September, Delon still passed for 5’9”+ but was again using big footwear. May Delon live for many more years to come.

Borderline 5’10, the 180 claim could pass as footwear height though. His frame and height amongst crowds in films seems to have convinced people he is taller than he actually is.

In Borsalino and Two Men in Town, I saw at least two inches between Delon and Bouquet, so maybe Bouquet’s common listing of 172cm is accurate? Bouquet does easily edge out Jean Poiret in Cop Au Vin.

In Parole de Flic and Frank Riva, Delon seems to have approximately an inch on Perrin, so maybe 5’9” is the best fit. There are many 5’7” listings for Perrin but these must be false, at least for his peak height.

I would strongly agree with the 5'9.75" listing for Delon. He looked about 177cm tall in many of his films, although he looked more of a strong 5'10" or even 5'11" in Le Samourai, he may have been wearing lifts for that film. I believe Delon did have a slight edge on Jean Paul Belmondo and was a couple of inches shorter than Maurice Ronet, whose page I feel would be another great addition to this wonderful site.

In this video, Delon is much taller than japanese mc and also Delon says he is 180 himself. Also his body ratio and silhouette looks at least 180 or even more.
THe japanese mc's name is nakai masahilo, and his profile height is 165 but his real height is 170.

Delon was 5ft11 180 cm when he was young. In the movie Texas Across the River from 1966 with Dean Martin they were almost the same height, and Dean was always at least 5ft10.

Skin looks grey and he looks constantly tired and washed out. In fairness it was 1969, and he could have had any woman he wanted!

In the begining of 80s, Alan Delon came to Argentina for improving his just made Pefume Alan delon and my friend's were running a clandestine company under covered by Argentine SIDE since the guys' uncle was then one of the important superior chieves of SIDE and their customs depaching agent was a firm which boss had a nick name Ferro something liked that and at taht very morning, I went to visit the office with one of the three partners and had a chance to see Alan in about 3 feet distance and that day Alan wore a wide shoulder pilot; he was actually one inch shorter than me, that year i was 31 and my height was 173cm without shoes; so I suppose Alan was 168 cm in real size since french mem mostly were not tall at that time...

I think he had to have worn lifts in some of his scenes with Anthony Quinn, perhaps to look more imposing. Quinn's posture wasn't great but at times in the film Alain could look almost 6 ft!

@Rob Yeah Belmondo at 5'10 is OK. I'm not sure on Delon, he can really look almost 5'11 at times but others looks in 5'9.5-5'10 range. I think he might have had a bit of a lift in a lot of his films to pull off looking taller. Barefoot with Cardinale he did look about 4 inches taller, Delon around 5 ft 10 I think is most accurate though.

Rob, I think we're being a tad stingy with 177 actually. I've seen most of the above films and he can pull off looking close to 5'11 on occasion. I think he might have worn lifts to pull off looking taller at times though. It's difficult to have him at 177 and Belmondo at 179 though, he looked easily as tall. I think something like 5'10.25 might be a better shout. With Cardinale barefoot he looked a solid 5 ft 10 er, though it was on the beach. Perhaps go with 5 ft 10 flat for now and see a few of his films and what you think.

In the film Le Samourai he's stood against a height chart and honestly he looks near 6 ft in shoes against it. Even accounting for being a bit away from it he looks like he's comfortably 5'11 range in shoes and near 6 ft. Something like 5'10.5 isn't impossible, but of course we can't rule out lifts. He really did look like he'd be near 6' in shoes against it though. I didn't think he looked 5 ft 11 with Lancaster, although 5'10 range is arguable.

Here's the chart, the thicker one below his head is 1.80m and upper one is 1.85m Click Here Now I know that being stood away from it can make you seem taller against i as in that photo but if you see it in the film from a better angle really he's easily over 1.80m in shoes.

whenever i see him on pictures as a young guy he always looks like a male model with very long legs and a tall appearance, so i personally agree with the 5'11 peak height(maybe more).he looks tall.thats it.

Didn't look even close to 181 Fabrizio. Weak 5'10. If you don't get why this guy had so much female attention aside from looks you only have to watch L'Eclisse, particularly towards the end. This guy could have had any woman he wanted when he was younger!

Mike that's exactly my point, he was barely taller than Charles Bronson and Bronson was a weak 5'8". That is why I went with 5'9.5" peak. However, he did look tall in "Le Samourai" Melville great camera angles.

I think Delon was closer to 5'9" (175-176cm) as he appeared to be only about an inch taller than 5'8" Charles Bronson as mentioned in the movie "Honor among Thieves." In fact, there was a scene in which they were both barefoot and the height difference was barely noticeable.

182 is a joke for sure Tunman!! You could argue 5'10" but he wasn't 5'11" range although in some of his French and Italian films at times he can look tallish next to short actors.

Yes arch, the difference looked about 2-2,5in rather than 3 but to me Lancaster seemed to struggle to look 6'1 at 50, perhaps he lost some height prematurily, who knows? Anyways a flat 5'10 is not completely excluded for Delon but I still think the 177 listing is bang on. Funny that he was listed at 182 in most other sites. Clearly they aren't as serious as Rob's

Delon was one of those guys who could look both short and average even tallish at times depending on the people around. Ewan McGregor is another of those guys so it must be something about that 5'9.5"-5'10 sort of range that can vary a lot in comparisons with people. It looks tall to a 5'5" er and short to a 6'4" er!!

Well Sam and Tunman, he certainly wasn't towered by Lancaster in The Leopard. In fact at times the height difference could look only 2 inches, but I think about 3 is OK.

Thank you Rob for this listing, I know I have made some request in the past regarding his height. Delon was a huge star in the 60's and 70's in Europe and many other parts. I still feel his peak was 5'9.5, in the movie Honor among thieves he was an inch and a half taller than Charles Bronson. I think Bronson was a weak 5'8. Nevertheless, I think you are pretty close on this one.

Thanks for adding him, Rob. He can look 5'10" range...if he's 177 cm (which is believable) than Depardieu is closer to 5'10" than 5'11" because there wasn't much between them.

It's really difficult to see Delon at 5'10" or over really. In Rocco and his brothers he's barefoot and boxing and really looks more 5'9" range in frame. I'd go with 177cm.
