i lived in Pakistan for 5 years and i noticed there is a wide range of heights there,my theory is that if Pakistan had the quality of life and health system of europe,they would be among the tallest people in the world.here in England ive noticed that most Punjabi men in their teens and 20s are over 6ft and also are more heavily built then the average englishman.

Oh, the scaling formula is quite simple: W1(H2/H1)³=W2, where W=weight, H=height, 1=person one and 2=person two. A 7' (213 cm) man would weigh 400 lbs (181 kg) with the proportions of a 7'8" (234 cm) 525 lbs (238 kg) man.

Evereyone's entitled to believe what they want, of course, but one should consider these things:
1) The 180 kg is no guess nor estimate of mine, it was measured by Guinness officials in early 1994.
2) Comparing to professional wrestlers' billed weights can be nothing but misleading. Note that Ralf Mφller (197 cm/6'5½") peaked at 130 kg (287 lbs) and Nikolai Valuev (213 cm/7') at 154 kg (340 lbs) – no extra wrestling pounds there.
3) 70+ kg heavier than Charbib or Sun??? Seriously...
4) You could also compare him to some lightweights his height: Bao Xishun (236.1 cm/7'8.95") is 121.5 kg (268 lbs) Click Here and Naseer Ahmaad Soomro (234 cm/7'8") 111 kg (245 lbs) Click Here Is he really twice their weight? Picture what a person your height but twice your weight looks like.

Personally, nothing short of a medical document will make me even consider the possibility that Channa ever weighed more than 200 kg. I've seen too much material on giants to believe that.

I do agree, however, that Channa indeed was taller than Bisaid: Channa was already 38 in 1994 and had stopped growing 12 years earlier, and with his great weight was likely past his peak. Note that Radhouane Charbib, measured 235.9 cm by Guinness in 1999, was down to 227 cm (7'5½") in 2007 due to spinal curviture. Though for weight estimates the difference of 0–4 cm (likely 2 with peak heights) between Channa and Bisad is virtually insignificant.

Too bad I coudn't find anything decent on Bisaid, as only the low quality and resolution of the pictures could fool anyone thinking that Channa could have ever outweighed him. No use making height estimates from them either, as it should be plainly obvious from the blurry video that the man had a hard time keeping up his posture.

I was always interested to know Channa's shoe size: the one thing that really stuck me with the pictures of Channa were his really long feet, even in proportion. Though Guinness gave the record to Matthew McGrory with a US size of 26 (65 EU) in the 1995 edition, when Channa was still alive. Of course, McGrory ultimately grew to US 29½ (69 EU).

Okay... I'd better rest my case, lest I catch arthritis.

at 6'11" to 7' could weigh 240 kg and had the body of the shot-putter like
physique you have posted , then what is wrong with Channa who was 8 to 9 inches taller looking far more thinner . The picture of Channa you posted
was when he was really young like 22 years old . Of course he grown heavier
and taller since then .

I am not so sure about Bisad's height standing next to other people . My good
friend please take a good look at his shoes and tell me they don't add at
least 2.5 inches to his height ?

One thing why I find the 180 kg figure most accurate is that he hit the scales under the supervision of Guinness officials. Granted, this was probably measured in imperial units, since it was done in the U.S. so there's a chance of misconversion in the Finnish article, but they had his height about right at 2.34 m, so I find that unlikely.

Bear in mind that 180 kg is already more than twice the weight of an average man. Understandably, estimations are very difficult with people this size, but one insightful method is scaling down: if 180 kg, a 180 cm (5'11") man with identical proportions would weigh 84 kg (185 lbs) and the equivalent for 240 kg would be 112 kg (247 lbs) – that's shot-putter physique, something like this Click Here and Channa simply doesn't look it Click Here Of course, when you're 180 kg you're going to look gigantic among normal-sized people, no matter what the proportions.

I wonder which one's the taller according to Guinness today: Channa was downgraded to 7'7Ό" (231.8 cm) 1995 onward, and they accepted 7'7½" (232.4 cm) for Bisad, although they measured him an inch less.

I'll admit that those Bisad pictures didn't do him justice, but I didn't find better ones. But I've *seen* better ones, and he's clearly more massive than other recent world's tallest claimants. Here's a (poor quality, again) video of him Click Here

Note that at 180 kg Channa would still outweigh the likes of Radhouane Charbib (235.9 cm/7'8.9" and 166 kg/365 lbs) and Sun Ming Ming (235.6 cm/7'8Ύ" and 168 kg/370 lbs), both of whom are taller than him – if 240 kg, he would have 70+ kg on them, and I'm not going to buy that in a million years.

My friend Anshelm , I did take a good look at the pictures you posted . I
have three things to say my friend .

1) Alam Channa is definately taller (234cm) as of Huussain 230 cm . This 234cm
for Channa was medical and accurately measured by Guiness for over 10 years
during which Channa held the record for the tallest living human .
2) Channa has a far larger bone structure , head and feet than Hussain . I
mean Channa also used to hold the record for the largest feet (size28)
for a living man . I met the guy and he was just so massive and strong .

3) If you are happy with a weight of 210 kg for Hussain , then how come you
can't beleive a 240 kg for Channa , who is 4 cm taller and much more
massive than the guy ?

Well, those were the weights given in the articles, doesn't necessarily mean they were correct. The one with 162 kg had his height at 240 cm – and Nelson de la Rosa's at 60 cm – putting its credibility in a questionable light. However, the one with 180 kg was on an article of his official measurement by Guinness (early 1993 or '94), which had his height at 2.34 m. I don't believe any of the WWE wrestlers weights, as the big guys are exaggerated by 10–15 kg (or more) by default, so I wouldn't use them as comparison.

Somalian-born British Hussain Bisad was measured at 230 cm (7'6½") by Guinness, although they did accept a previous measurement of 232 cm (7'7½") by his doctor, and he weighs 33 st or 462 lb or 210 kg – and Channa looks a good deal skinnier than him. Click Here

and 340 pounds (155 kg ) for Kane . 130 Kg is 286 pounds . No one in the
world heard a weight like that for Sid or Kane unless they were still 13
or 14 years old . Kane , Nash , Sid had always been over the 310 pounds(141kg)
range . Please Anonymous prove to me that your estimation of Sid's, Nash
and Kane are correct !

Joanne...you are correct Pakistan was indeed the land of giants as once attested by a high ranking officer in Alexander the Great's Army when they invaded Pakistan, as well as many scholars from earlier times. You have to kidding my friend Anshelm !! I was there in Abu Dhabi when they
had to use two weighing scales to measure him at a medical clinic . And each
scale only goes up to 125 Kg ( 275 pounds ) . Channa tipped both of them .
And let me ask you something Anshelm ? Sid and kane and Nash are all in the
155-160 kg weight range . Do they look to you o be the same weight as Channa?
I have comparrision picture of Channa with both Sid and Kane . Please tell me
they seem to be at the smae body weight .

Pakistanis I have met seem to be of two height groups. Either they are average, or they are ridiculously tall. I knew 3 bothers who were of Pakistani origin. 2 of them were 6'8 and 6'9, and their younger brother only made it to 5'10.

btw, is it true that Hritik Roshan is really of Pakistani origin? I think I read somewhere that he is originally from the Pakistani Punjab, but his family was thrown out during the partition for being Hindu.

My friend Vegas , I just couldn't wait to write this mail . And I want an
urgent response ! My friend you were right , I was in a state of shock when
you posted these pictures of Channa / Kareem , Sid/Channa comparisons . I
was saying to my self on and on again how could this be ? I stood in front
of both these people and believe me brother if you had too , you would see
a very very significant difference in the sizes of Kareem, Sid and channa .
Please don't get me wrong here , I am not trying to downgrade Kareem because
who in their right mind can disrespect a man who even to this date holds the
world's record of the all time NBA highest points ( an Amazing 38,000 plus) .
But my friend that doesn't give you the right to do injustice to Mr.channa .

I will tell you what is extremely wrong in the comparrison you did . You see
I weigh more in the photo with Channa than I was with Kareem . I was only
185 pounds with Kareem before Bodybuilding . But with Mr. Channa I was the
best shape of my life , 225 pounds that's 40 pounds more .What you did in
the Kareem/Channa comparrison was you only brought the width of my face into
the same size and not the length of my head .Anyone can clearly see that my
chin is much longer in the kareem picture than with Channa . In other words
you haven't shrunk me 100 % to add to Channa piture . If you had , Than I
can bet all the money in the USA banks that Kareem will in no way reach upto
Alam Channa's eye level even without his foot wear . The difference in height
Between Kareem and Channa is the same as me and the Rock , which is around 7
Inches. So , Buddy please please set this right . Rob had promised me this
comparrison picture . But his promis is only half fulfilled because this
Picture is Extremely inaccurate . Another evidance I would like to point out
that , if you look into the Robert Waldow sit and check into this site of
cjohny Listings of the world's tallest men , there is a picture of Alam
Channa standing next to a 7' 5" Jaccob Williams of South Africa and you
can clearly see that he towers over him more than the comparison you did
here . Also there is another Russian who claims to be 7' 9" and Channa looks
taller than him too .

Compare Ahmed to this and he is at least 9" off the mark. I feel sorry for Ajaz Ahmed, he's really doing it tough but I personally don't think he's any taller than 7'7" - Johnny C also lists him at this height I think.

The following clip was posted on YouTube some time ago and is from a Pakistani TV show called Living On The Edge. It is of Naseer Soomro and although I can't understand the language it seems that he is proclaimed the tallest man in Pakistan at 7'8".

He looks very similar in size to Alam Channa, I think his claim of 7'8" is entirely believable. If Ajaz Ahmed were really 8'4", or if he were even taller than 7'8', wouldn't he have staked a claim to the title by now??

When I said Channa didn't look 525lbs I was mentally comparing him to Sun Ming Ming. Sun is roughly the same height as Channa, maybe a 1/2" taller and he weighs 370lbs. From this picture it doesn't look like Alam Channa is 155lbs heavier than Sun Ming Ming. I always thought the 460lbs attributed to Jorge Gonzalez was exaggerated too, 400lbs sounds nearer to the mark. Estimating weights from photo's can be tough though! I believe Andre the Giant topped at at somehwere near 540lbs, but the difference in height between him and Alam Channa makes it virtually impossible to compare their weights. To be honest, I would think Channa and Gonzalez would have been very similar in weight, there is only an inch or two difference in height and their builds are seem to be similar. I never met the guy though, and if you're certain he was 525lbs, thats good enough for me. Thank you for sharing these great photos with us btw :)

My good friend Vegas , I loved what you did in these pictures . First I must
tell every body here that Alam channa wasn't wearing any shoes and I was
wearing the same half inche soles shoes as I was with the Rock . But I think
half inches you can ignore here because I don't think it will make much of
a difference in height with 7'8" Channa . Now I would really like to point
out that the whole world sees and knows that these Basketball players wears
footwear that is always more than an inche and a half than normal people's
footwear . Just take a look at Shaq's footwear ? Are you going to tell me
it doesn't add up to his height by at least 2 inches . Now if you put these
shoes on Channa , wouldn't that make him look a lot taller than he looks
right now with me in this picture ? I think so . I am sure if both Kareem
and Channa was standing barefoot , Kareem would barely be up to his eye
level ,

Sid and Channa; i don't know if you can make out the line but sid comes just below the bottom of channas mouth so around 11" shorter or so i suspect plus footwear bringing it to about a foot difference, maybe 13 inches

questions . THe first one being , yes he was a very very kind and nice guy!
I have met more than 100 celebrities and in my top ten list Muhammad Ali was
No. 1 and this guy is No. 2 . It is so sad you guys never got to meet the guy.
The second question , How tall did I think Amitabh was ? Well to me he looked
like six feet barefoot . When Rob will post the picture you will find out .
And third , I also don't think that Ajaz Ahmed was taller than Channa . By
looking at his pictures and Channa's and the way they tower over people ,Ajaz
doesn't come across to me as 8'4" . I also have a picture with Nasser Ahmed
Somrroo who also claims to be taller than Alam Channa . But When I will send
that picture here , all you good people came see and judge by your self . And
none of these guys were as big as Alam Channa because he was over 500 pounds .

into this picture with Alam Channa ( I know guys here can do that ) you will
see more than A foot difference ! I mean Sid will have a hard time going
over a bare foot Alam Channa shoulders as he easily did with Gonzalez . So we
are talikng about a much taller man here . If you can beleive 462 pounds for
Giant Gonzalez , then way not 525 pounds for Alam Channa .

Franco , in this picture he weighed 525 pounds !! I am was the best shape of
my life in this picture . I weighed 225 pounds with a 33 inches waist !I think
foe giants who are over 7'6" tall Alam Channa was the biggest . Take Waldow
for example , his heighest weight was 499 pounds and Giant Gonzalez was 462
max . I can't seem to find any one else in his catagory he weighed more than
this guy . By the way the size of his shoes was the same size as that of a
tenis racket .Size 28 !!!! Andre's size was only 23 !!

Actually, Guinness said he stopped growing at age 26; it had startet (in the abnormal sense) at 10. Guinness originally (at least in 1981) had him at 251 cm (8'3") BTW, only to shave 19 cm (8Ύ") off eventually – a precedent for Stadnyk?

Note that Guinness lowered his height to 231.7 cm (7'7Ό" – I know mathematically that should be converted to 231.8 cm, but I'm using the same numbers as Guinness did) – the same as Sandy Allen – 1995 edition onward. This was likely due to official measurement that I saw an article about in early 1994 (or was it '93?). Likewise they had his year of birth initially at 1953, but later corrected it to 1956.
His successors were: 235 cm (7'8½") Ri Myong-hun of North Korea (measured in 1997, with Channa still alive), 235.9 cm (7'8.9") Radhouane Charbib of Tunisia (1999) and 236.1 cm (7'8.95") Bao Xishun of China (2005) – and "253 cm" (8'3.6") Leonid Stadnyk of Ukraine (2007), though Guinness had him in an "awaiting ratification" style in the 2008 edition.
Note that Bao was said to have reached his full height at age 23 – or in about 1974 or '75 – which would retroactively make him the tallest man since 245 cm (8'½") Suleiman 'Ali Nashnush's (1943–1991) death, in wich case Channa was never truly the tallest.

as long as he doesnt take up too any of the pics i have already,or didnt post yet.keep in mind,i have hundreds if not 1000 i didnt post.i have a blurry,but cozy pic with cindy crawford i asked you about not recieving.i couldve sworn i sent it.we discussed this already.we will see how many pics of his is posted.already it caused confusion to me and others.read the one post.im sure others wondered.not so much taking over,but lets not hope a weeding out.after some disappointment with things,this isnt helping.and the timing is absurd.as with all things,hopefully ill take it in stride.

First off, Robert Wadlow was recorded as being the tallest man to have ever lived at 8'11.1. But second, if Mamun is 5'8, this man "Channa" looked to be much taller than 7'8. And I don't see 7'8 as being at all tall enough to be the worlds tallest man.

No conspiracy 5'8 is regular height apart from asians or black who tend to be gentically different. Im 5'10 and 5'8 isn't short or strange to me.

Carla- Go to the Robert Wadlow thread on this site for an answer to your question. There is much discussion of that topic in that thread. My contention is that the world's tallest living human is Zhang Jun Cai of China at 7-11. The Guinness Book of World Records claims that Leonid Stadnyk is currently the world's tallest human at 8'3.6". However, that is very suspect, and many people on that Wadlow thread (including myself) believe he is only 7-7 to 7-9.

I will answer caesar's question ! He died in New York USA in the Hospital in
I think August of 1998 of Kidney failiur . They couldn't find a Kidney large
enough for a man who weighed aroound 5oo pounds at the time of his death. Also
he was high Diabetic . You should also know that he was the tallest living
person acording to the Guiness book of world records for almost 10 years .
You find his name in the 1983-1986 and 1991-1998 editions . He also had the
largest feet of any man , size 28 ( shaque wears only a size 21 ). He was a
very very kind and humble man every time I saw him . If you didn't like him
for his height you would most likely love him for his big heart . Also I would
like to ask member caesar if he could some how put me ,Alam channa and kane
into the same picture . My picture with Kane is also in this site .

There is a basketball player in the ABA who is 7'8 and 3/4. He might be the legitimate world's tallest man at this point, as so many other claimants are questionable.

This is a rather good photo.
Mamun is 5ft 8. We add 2 Mamun heads of 9 inches that brings us to the eyes of Channa. That takes us to 7ft-2. We add another 5 inches to his head and we have 7ft 7.

Reasonably concluded that we add a further inch for shoes and have 7ft-8.
