How tall is Billy Boyd

Billy Boyd's Height

5ft 5 ½ (166.4 cm)

Scottish Actor best known for playing Pippin in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Early in his career he claimed to be 5 feet 7 inches, although in a 1999 SFX interview, mentioned he was actually "Five foot six, A wee bit taller than a hobbit". An older interview also once remarked that he mentioned 5ft 5 but was now saying a taller height. These photos are from Showmasters Film and Comic Con events in 2014. On the left we had roughly same shoes, on right I had nearly 0.4 inch less sneaker.

Billy looks around half an inch taller than Elijah so I think that Rob has his height off to a tee!

5ft5.5.

Dominic and Billy Boyd did one of those 'Wired Auto Complete' videos. One of the questions was "How tall is Billy boyd" which billy replied "5'7"... camera zooms into Domninics head shaking haha.

Dominic claims 5'7 and Billy is adamant he himself is 5'7 despite even stating Dom is taller.
Editor Rob
I think it's obvious Dom is taller in photos and in person, well over an inch anyway between them.

There was a question on a quiz last night as to which character Billy Boyd played in 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy.

The other options, including Christopher Lee's Saruman and Sean Bean's Boromir, are far taller than Billy, especially the former, that his character of Pippin seems somewhat appropriately named! 🍏

5ft5.5. 😁👌

Rob, would you say the average seems higher slightly elsewhere in the UK outside of Scotland or roughly the same?
Editor Rob
I am sure some cities might have a slightly taller average, or at least districts within a city might feel taller. There are times in London I'd have guessed 5ft 10 average easily enough.

What range do you consider average height range for an adult male in your area of Scotland?
Editor Rob
5ft 8 does feel within the average range, but overall 5ft 9 still seems like it is average when out and about in big crowds in he past...

What do you consider him Rob? Is he short or very short at 166cm?
Editor Rob
within short range, far from what I'd call very short

5'5.5 seems fine wouldn't even have ruled out 5'5.75.He looks like 168cm in the right one minus 1cm so maybe a slight upgrade?
Jkiller said on 4/Feb/20
I think he's 5'5.5

Interesting, I think you are correct at 5'5.5". This looks almost like me and my dad standing next to each other barefoot. Rob's nose is around Billy's eyebrow here (on left pic). My 5'8" dad's nose is slightly under my eyebrows. I am 5'5.75" and got a similar forehead and similar neck, so 5'5.5" is right. Billy would be barely above 5'6" in the mornings.

According to a Daily Mail article from 2011 which isn't that long ago, the average height for a Scottish man was 5ft 8in which of course means 50% are shorter than that, so I do think Scottish men tend to be quite short compared to those from some other countries. The article in the Mail was referring to a study, so it wasn't a figure the newspaper just plucked out of the air.
Editor Rob
They do a Scottish Health Survey which includeds about 4000 people, the average is still 5ft 9 in Scotland, not much different than England.

My pic with this friendly dude, think he had a footwear edge.
Editor Rob
I'd still put him as just shy of 5ft 6

I was amazed when people started talking about quarter inch height differences on this site, which most people wouldn't notice, but are we now saying 1/8 inch matters?
KH said on 25/Jul/17
Could be 5'6 based on those pictures (on the left Billy is not standing totally straight) but Rob is the master.

166 with your shoes advantage so he is 167 for sure
Editor Rob
we have similar shoes on left, I have 0.4 inch less footwear on the right.
mrtguy said on 2/May/16
I could see 4'' difference if Rob was standing straight

Billy looking 5'6, 5'5.75ish. Looks as tho he could be the same height as Rob with a similar size head!
Aravind said on 13/Apr/16
Rob is like almost 5'9 here.

Couldn't argue with this listing for Billy, looks 166cm, or 167cm in the shot with more footwear. If Elijah is shorter in person than Billy then 5ft 5 flat seems right for him, although I think there's a good chance they are both a bit over 5ft 5.

I saw him one time and would have guessed somewhere around 5'5-5'6.

Hard to believe Pippin will be 48 in August.
mrtguy said on 2/Apr/16
I see a small fraction over 3 inches
BSD said on 2/Apr/16
could see more then 2.5 inches in the pic with Rob, must be losing height

Rob, why the 0.25 upgrade for him?
Editor Rob
saw him numerous times and I think looked it

Yeah Dom 5'7" works for me. I posted some barefoot pics of him with Evangeline Lilly where he clearly has the advantage (on her page awhile back). What throws a lot of people off with these guys is Elijah's lift habit.
antron said on 10/Sep/07
I think he and Elijah come off as shorter (ie 5'4 claims)due to their more petite frames compared to the other two hobbit actors. I feel like Boyd and Wood are about the same height (max 5'6") and Dom slightly taller. Astin is hard to gauge to my eyes, though I feel like he is max 169cm.
I am 5'6.5" and get judged shorter than that because I'm smaller framed.(Though I'm officially 5'7" on my drivers license cuz they don't do halves, and why would i round down?! haha besides, five seven is easier to say right?)People are surprised when I do the old back to back measurement with say, a lanky 5'7" girl and I'm only a cm shorter.

Editor Rob
dom looks...standing shoulder to shoulder with me no less than 5ft 7.

I met Billy in Glasgow a few years ago and he was barely taller than my husband who is 5'5", not much though.
Bibs said on 8/Jul/07
I read Sean Astin's memoirs on LotR---He says Billy is the shortest of the hobbits, and Sean is five-sixish. Dom is tallest, Sean says, and Elijah is slightly shorter than Sean (Is Elijah 5'5"-6"?). Billy is probably his self-confessed 5'5".

*correction* I actually measured my heels that I wore and they are 2 1/2 inch not 1 1/2 inch heels as I stated in my previous statement
Penny said on 17/May/06
Yes, that anonymous is me! Keep in mind I was wearing 2 1/2 inch heels and Billy was wearing maybe 1/2 to 3/4 inch heels on his boots.

I added a pic of Billy and a fan, who I think made the last comment on 14th May on this page.

I met Billy a few times, I am 5' 51/2" I was wearing about 1 1/2 inch heels and he was wearing Beatle boots with about 3/4 inch heels. We were roughly the same size. I would say he is at LEAST 5' 6".

From the Scotsman newspaper this year...

"He’s grown two-and-a-half inches since we last met. Then, he shyly confessed to being 5ft 5in. Now he insists he’s actually 5ft 7in. "And a half," he adds crossly. Well, perhaps in Cuban heels. He doesn’t laugh"
jesslotr said on 26/Oct/05
i've met him a few years back, and billy, i love you to death, but there is NO WAY you're 5ft 7, hell not even 5ft6. both billy and elijah wood are no taller than 5ft4-5ft5 max. I am 5ft3, an i was looking at them pretty much eye to eye.

*Sorry, a correction: that should say "It depends on how big Li Tyler's heels are and how much lift Boyd uses"
Anyways, Boyd goes up to Liv Tyler's mouth (about 7-inch difference or slightly over). Tyler's got to be wearing at least 4-inch heels to gain that much height (assuming Tyler 5-10 and Boyd 5-6 and that he's wearing no lifts, just 1-inch shoes)
