I watched the episode when lindsey vonn was on. She was huge. I never seen a female guest look so big in the chair. She looked 6 foot easy and she had 3 inch heels i think. When she hugged david letterman, he was slightly taller. Trust me she was tall and attractive. 187cm. He was much taller than anderson cooper too.

Like I said before, whenever I watch the show Dave is on the elevated stage and his guest is standing on the floor, so I'm interested in looking at these moments you're finding that can actually be used to accurately determine height to a reasonable degree. So far, the best evidence I have is the photo above with 5'10.5'' Alan Light in which Dave looks no taller than 6'0.25''.

I don't know how to link. I just watch the show a lot. He was definately taller than will smith, rafael nadal, bill murray, bill cosby, jim carrey and similar to kutcher. He might be slightly taller. I know because they were hugging and posing and you can see letterman clearly taller. I don't get it. No lifts in his shoe. How tall is mitt romney? He was slightly shorter than him. 187cm.

@Jim: Actually, Dave had a comfortable camera advantage on Hugh. Just pause at 0:46 on the zoomed-in shot, and you can see just how much closer to the camera Dave is. It's harder to tell once the camera has zoomed out.

@Danimal: I looked at two videos of Letterman in '95 when Montana appear on his show. If Montana is/was 6'2" then Letterman did look the same height as Montana. It's strange because in the above photo, he doesn't look like a 6'2" man at all.

I don't have evidence but i always watch the late show when i can. He was taller than nadal who is 6 foot 1. A six footer cannot be taller than a person who is 6 foot 1. Just look it up on youtube or something. He was slightly taller than bill cosby and cosby is 6 foot 1. I can live with 187cm. He never looked short. He always stands tall next to his guests. The photo above that Rob posted is a much better indicator of Letterman's height than the Late Show because there's bound to be problems like camera advantage and angle on the show. In the photo, we've concurred that Dave was just barely 6 foot, which means he's like 5'11.5'' now.

I'm sorry, but I can't see how anyone can say Letterman was ever 6'2''. In order for him to have been 6'2'', he'd have to have three and a half inches on Light, which he clearly doesn't have. The hat makes him look taller than he really is, it looks to me that in actuality he only has 1.75 inches on Light, mwhich makes him 6'0.25''. He hardly ever looks tall either, I'd peg him at 5'11.75'' today.
