In little britain they make waterman out to be a midget. Maybe he is only 5ft6ins. He never looked this small but then its sometimes hard to judge on tv.

rediculous to think he was 5ft 6!! even in the 70's that would have been a short guy , unable to play the hard man cop/minder he did. 5ft 9 is about right

My forensic examination of The Sweeney box set and follow-up research in a red London phone box indicates that John Thaw, Waterman's partner in the show, was about 5'6". Dennis looked a touch taller than Thaw so maybe 5'7" at peak in the mid-70s.

I met Dennis Waterman in the early 90s in the VIP lounge at a football match. I knew him from playing the hardman copper and later minder so I was really shocked when I met him to find he was smaller than me. I'm only 5' 7" and I would put him at less than 5'6". One thing is for sure, he is DEFINITELY NOT 5'9" as he is officially claimed to be, or anywhere near that.

5'9" is being very generous for Waterman. I met him years ago (with his then wife, Rula Lenska, who looked taller than him) and although I was wearing high heels at the time, at 5'4" in my bare feet I would still have been no more than 5'7" in those shoes, and he was barely taller than me. I'd have put him at 5'8" at a push.
