he was in an episode of scrubs that i watched recently and looked shorter than usual, zach braff had about 2 inches on him at least, but he is over 80, i think 6-0 is the tallest he ever was, great actor...

In the Famous columbo interview he is significantly taller then 5'6" Peter Falk and does have a slouch. But it looks more 5-6 inches, he does walk with a cain mind you and he wears adidas samba trainers throughout.

Bleemo - Dick might be standing on a box in that first shot. Having watched multiple episodes of Diagnosis Murder it is obvious that Barry has a couple inches at least on his dad if you see them in long shots or standing side by side. Of course Dick was in his 70s for most of this series' run so one must take that into account.

Dick himself made fun of his shrinking size a couple of years ago at a TVLand event with Mary Tyler Moore. Some clips from their show were shown where Dick was still 6' and noticably taller than Mary. After the clips were done Dick noted that "Mary's gotten taller and I've gotten shorter" because they appeared to be much closer in height. (Mary was wearing high heels that night.)

Dick has also said in recent interviews that his spine is falling apart due to all the falls he took over the years.

I caught a bit of Fitzwilly awhile back on TCM. Dick was slightly shorter than Sam Waterston in this. Maybe 6'0 or 6'.5" is more accurate?

When you co-star with Morey Amsterdam for 5 years you can look like a 6'4" giant :)

After Watching Divorce American Style and noticing that Dick is at least two inches shorter than Van Johnson I believe Van Dyke was never 6'1", but barely 6'.

Dick was about 6' to 6'1" back when he was doing The Dick Van Dyke Show. Carl Reiner was around 6'1" and Mary Tyler Moore was 5'7". The actor who played their son Richie later became a sales rep for a video post production house that I used to do business with and we got to know each other. He occasionaly shows up at the Collector's Show in LA to sell autographed pictures of himself.
