I shook hands with Dick Van Dyke about several years ago as he was judging a Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella contest in Hermosa Beach, CA sponsored by the South Bay Coastliners Barbershop chorus. Back in the 70s at Mardi Gras I saw Dick Van Dyke walking along the steet by himself. I was surprised how short he was. I'd say 5'9". Because he is so lean he always looked like he was at least 6 ft tall in TV and on the big screen. Sara says on 24/May/11

saw him on leno last night. he was fully two inches shorter yhan leno. i have stood next toeno and he is 5'10" same as me. dick van dyke at 85 is apprx. 5'8". he may have been 6' or over at one time. some people shrink more than others. art says on 12/May/11

Due to his slim build, Van Dyke looks taller than he actually is. He has repeatedly been listed as 6"0" even. me says on 7/Feb/11
He didn't look 6.1 in that episode of columbo. My guess is he peak height was really 5.11. He was the same height as scott baio in the 1980s. me says on 1/Feb/11
