In What a Way To Go, Van Dyke wearing flat boat shoes looked between 2-2.5 inches taller than Dean Martin in his shoes. Seems about right. Dick was a thin guy, probably around a 28 waist. Looks a much more handsome guy in older age with the white hair than he ever did younger. Kind of like Leslie Nielsen did.

I’m watching Alfred Hitchcock Presents, an episode from 1960, which stars a boyish Dick Van Dyke as a man whose uncle has died. He’s the deceased’s only living relative and expects to inherit his uncle’s entire fortune, but the old man has left everything to his dog, Casper!

Solid 6' peak. However, next to Conan O'Brien he looks not much more than 5'9" to me, and that was about 10 years ago. I think today in his late nineties he's strong 5'8" range, 174ish cm, a solid 3.5+ inches shorter than his peak height.

This is actually a lot to shrink even for being over 90. I would expect no more than 2 or so inches. I know my grandmother at 92-93 when measured was 5'1.6 area . She always claimed 5'2 so lost maybe a half inch. Though everyone is different but losing 3 + inches like Van Dyke seems excessive unless maybe some injury or something.

He looked 5’ 10” on his Dick Van Dyke show at the start and then seem to grow to 6’2” later in the show. In the beginning he Mary Tyler Moore was just 2 or 3 inches shorter, but in other episodes, she looked 6 inches shorter.

He definitely didn't look 6.5 inches taller than Peter Falk in the episode he was in of Colombo, when he was 49 years old and presumably hadn't lost any height. He looked 5 inches taller than Falk to me. I personally think he was a solid 6 foot, but 6'0.5 might be pushing it a bit.

It cracks me up looking at the serious critiques. Van dyke definitely seems 6' when younger. If he squeezed in an extra half inch who cares? Definitely not 5'10" when younger or shorter like some claim. The general rule is adding an inch or less. You dont claim to be over 6' when you are 5'8".

Not many people know this but did anybody here know that the slide which was used in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang towards the end with Gert Frobe was actually the same Pinewood slide which appeared a year earlier in You Only Live Twice which Sean Connery falls down into a chair in Japan? Bleemo - Dick might be standing on a box in that first shot. Having watched multiple episodes of Diagnosis Murder it is obvious that Barry has a couple inches at least on his dad if you see them in long shots or standing side by side. Of course Dick was in his 70s for most of this series' run so one must take that into account.

Dick himself made fun of his shrinking size a couple of years ago at a TVLand event with Mary Tyler Moore. Some clips from their show were shown where Dick was still 6' and noticably taller than Mary. After the clips were done Dick noted that "Mary's gotten taller and I've gotten shorter" because they appeared to be much closer in height. (Mary was wearing high heels that night.)

Dick has also said in recent interviews that his spine is falling apart due to all the falls he took over the years.

Dick was about 6' to 6'1" back when he was doing The Dick Van Dyke Show. Carl Reiner was around 6'1" and Mary Tyler Moore was 5'7". The actor who played their son Richie later became a sales rep for a video post production house that I used to do business with and we got to know each other. He occasionaly shows up at the Collector's Show in LA to sell autographed pictures of himself.
