Don Johnson was only 5'8.5. The height of 5'9.5 is, again, his height in shoes. 5'9.5 seems almost like a joke. Frenchy says on 13/May/11
In Vice, DJ in slippers made with lifts (1,5 inche)is 1 inche max over Isy who is himself 1 inch higher in flat shoes than Phil Collins (who is short about 5.6). So I can say that DJ is 5.6 + 2= 5.8 + 1 inch (shoes of Isy)-1.5inch (slippers lifts)= 5.7.5 perhaps 5.8 if slippers have only 1 inch lift. So DJ is 172 cm (5.7.75) is the most probable scenario. I don't live in Colorado and I haven't met Don but the evidence is that 5' 9 1/2" is at least a bit too tall: a) the cameraman at the top of the page told Don he was about his size and Don got stroppy but didn't disagree - that points to something shorter; b) many actors in Vice tower over Don when 6'-plus men in their 30s were still quite rare - and it wasn't in the show's interests to make Don look small (unless he was driving everyone so crazy that they did it out of spite); c) there's an episode of Vice with a close-up of his slipper shoes and they're clearly built up. I thought they looked peculiar before I looked at this site - I'll find the episode and name it. I like Don and wish he'd made better career choices after Vice but he's pretty short. I just saw the fist original episode of Miami Vice yesterday and in many scenes DJ is about the same height than 5'9 Phillip Michael Thomas. However, there is a scene were they are barefoot in DJ's boat and you can cleary notice about 2 inches difference between them. I am sure that DJ was wearing lifts a lot of times in his career. I attended high school with him in Wichita at South High School. In gym class, and in other classes together, we stood at the same height. That height is 5'8". No doubt he can be 5'9" in shoes, so basically everyone is within an inch or so of his accurate height. With age, he might have shrunk in height just a bit...but I ask, who really cares? When he stopped in at Cessna Aircraft here in Wichita, he was again the same height as me. With shoes on, we were both at 5'9" but barefoot we are closer to 5'8". Shelly says on 12/Mar/11

He's one of those celebrities who's height is tricky to estimate. I used to think he was 5'10'- 5'11' range back when I saw him in Tin Cup but he's probably 5'9' tops and stallone closer to 5'10'. |
