In the 1976 Morcambe and Wise Christmas Special you're on about, Elton John had massive platforms boots on! You can see them when he's sitting at the piano, and then again, when he sidles off the stage! Eric looked like he had normal shoes on. I'm watching it right now on BBC iplayer! :o) georgeclooneysmum says on 4/Jan/11

Rob see the 1963 edition of Morecambe and Wise with the Beatles. A young Eric is the same size as John Lennon.
[Editor Rob: he looked shorter than paul/john and george I think] georgeclooneysmum says on 3/Jan/11
He lost a lot of height after his heart op. In early movies he was 5 to 6 inches taller than wise. Towards the end it was about 2 to 3 inches over wise. georgeclooneysmum says on 3/Jan/11

Five inches at least on Wise before his heart attack Jimmy G says on 3/Jan/11
this is mental - I can't quite believe that there are other people out there who also noted the Elton/Eric annomaly. I thought Elton was a shorter guy and assumed Eric was a lot taller. Unless Elton wore secret platforms.
[Editor Rob: maybe elton had his platform shoes on.
there was a joke in one of their books where Ernie asked how long Eric was in the hospital...and Ernie replied 'About 5ft 10...two weeks actually' or something along those lines.
Angela Rippon in basic heels was pretty near his height, Angela herself claimed 5ft 6] short man syndrome says on 2/Jan/11
fricanman - I saw that as well, Elton John had at least 2 inches on Eric so I think he must have been smaller than this, possibly even 5'6. fricanman says on 1/Jan/11
Just watched an old Xmas special with them and Elton John. Elton towered over Ernie and was almost the same height as Eric. I always thought Elton was very small but he is listed as 5'7" - he wasn't wearing platforms either! No way Eric could be much more than 5'8" from that comparison, but a genius at any height! |
