Just met Ernie a couple of months ago at a booksigning. I'm 5'8 1/2", and even at 94 or 95, Ernie's got a good inch on me. I say he's at or near 5'10". And yes, he's one of the nicest guys in show business.

I'm in agreement with most of the other posters here. I just can't believe this man was ONLY 5'9" for most of his life. I watched a couple of his movies recently, 'The Poseidon' and 'All Quiet on the Western Front', and this man easily looked bigger than 5'9", ESPECIALLY in Western Front. In fact, if one did not know any better, you would've figured Borgnine to be at LEAST 6' in Western Front. Shadow2 says on 25/Dec/10
Ernie was about 5'10.5" in his movies in the 1950's, and still looked that during his McHale and Airwolf TV work. He did a Magnum PI in his 60's with (close to) 6'4" Tom Selleck, and in their confrontation scenes, didn't look short next to Selleck. Obviously through his 70's, 80's, and 90's he's now lost a lot of height. Ernie is regarded as one of the nicest people in show business! |
