He wore cowboy boots in Superman, which made him nearly as tall as Christopher Reeve. And he definately towered over 5ft9 Roy Scheider in The French Connection. 6ft2 in his peak.

Hackman was always a big burly guy. He looked massive in The French Connection and its sequel, and he looked close in height to Christopher Reeve in the Superman films. More recently, he did look a bit shorter than Will Smith in Enemy of the State and, compared to Morgan Freeman in a recent picture, looks to have lost quite a bit of height. I would say he is about 5'10'' or 5'11'' today; some of you will find that absurd, but he is pushing 80. At peak, a very strong 6'2'' for sure. Fantastic actor.

There's no way that Gene Hackman is more than 6'. If anyone has seen Enemy of the State, he's atleast an inch if not two shorter than Will Smith. I would say Smith is 6'2 tops, with shoes on. Rethink these numbers, people.

Where on earth would anybody get the idea Hackman is anywhere near 6 feet in height? It's possible he was 6 feet when he was younger. When Runaway Jury was being filmed in New Orleans i saw him frequently. Stood next to him and spoke with him a few times. He is no more than 5'10" in shoes.

I attended a painting class in Taos NM some years ago, and Gene Hackman was a fellow student. I can tell you that he was 6'2" then, very broad across the shoulders, and not someone you'd want to mess with. He also has very big feet, like a basketball player. And he's a good painter!

In The Conversation, Hackman in some scenes looked about 3 inches or more taller than Harrison Ford. It was weird to see. I always thought Ford was 6'1" in his youth. I've seen Ford at about 5'11" now. Maybe he didn't lose a lot of height and was only about 6'or a little under in his youth.

In the little known film 'Lilith', Warren Beatty appears to be an inch or maybe two inches taller than Gene Hackman. But then again, it may just have been the requirements of the characters to make Beatty appear taller.

In Uncommon Valor, Hackman looks noticeably shorter than Tex Cobb, the former boxer, who was usually listed at 6'3" . I'd judge that Hackman looked no taller than 6'1" in this 1983 movie. Being only 53 at the time, I wouldn't think Hackman would have shrunk much by 1983.

I doubt if Hackman was ever 6'4", because then Chris Reeve would have to have been something like 6'6" which he wasn't. I know from personal encounter that Beatty is still 6'2" and anybody who watches Bonnie&Clyde without prejudice or preconceived ideas (and with open eyes for that matter) can see that Hackman and Beatty are the same size there. In Reds, which I rewatched just to make sure, it even looks like Hackman may be a hair shorter than Beatty. He may have been 6'2 1/2" or 6'3" tops, but I don't even really believe that.

Usually promotional shots are taken after a movie is in the can. So he is actually taller than Beatty. Before Hackman became a leading man, after the French Connection, he was a character actor who had to lie as shorter in order to get parts with famous leading men. I'm sure he was 6'4" in his prime. He is 2 inches taller than Beatty in Lilith and Beatty was 6'2" in his prime. He's a really great actor who is consistently underrated.

No, in Bonnie & Clyde the actual movie, Beatty and Hackman are the same height in 85% of the time. The remaining time is equally divided between either of them being taller than the other. Only in promotional photos does Hackman look bigger. In Reds they're also the same height.

In Bonnie and Clyde, Gene Hackmann is visibly taller than Warren Beatty. Gene is that kind of man who looks taller than he is for being imposing, broad shouldered (not by working out!) a bull neck and a stature! Such one! but he is tall and looks so in Superman next to 6'4 Chris Reeve.
6'2 was for sure and for long his height, so a bit less now.

Not too long ago I saw Bonnie and Clyde for the first time. I got the impression that Gene was taller than Warren Beatty although I didn't really pay close attention to their height difference. After looking at this site and found out that they are the same height pretty much, I went back and watched parts of the film out of curiousity. They are the same height on the second viewing. I think because Gene is a wider man (than Beatty), he gives the impression of being taller as well.

I thought he looked about 6'2 when he was in Superman but looks considerably shorter now. I Think 6,0.5 looks about right for now. He looked about 1.5 inches shorter than John Cusack in Runaway Jury. He was also a lot shorter than Morgan Freeman in Under Suspicion. He looked 6'2 when he was younger but not anymore.

kene6ft3 -- Are you referring to The Royal Tenenbaums? There's a scene in that movie where he layed on his stomach getting a massage. You can see he's got a bit of a humpback. He was about 70 y/o then. In his prime he was probably 6'2"/3".

The original Superman was on Cinemax last night, and I caught a few minutes of it. Reeve only looked marginally taller than Hackman, by maybe an inch. I always thought Reeve was 6ft4, but is it possible he was more like 6ft3. Hackman didn't appear to be wearing big heeled shoes at least from what I saw.

There are scenes wich Hackman is an inch or so taller than Washington and there are scenes in wich they are the same height. I think that the director wanted that they looked the same heigh for some reason. Hackman did look in the early 90s still 6 ft 2 to me.

Nope Hackman was not taller than 6 ft 2 at his peak. Hackman was in the 70s slighty shorter than Connery and Slighty taller than Michael Caine.

I was thinking that Hackman could have been taller than 6 ft 2 at his peak. Warren Beatty was 6 ft 2 at his peak and Hackman was taller than him in 1967. In the French Connection he looked also tall, Rob Schieber who was 5 ft 9 or 8 at his peak,looked like 5 ft 7 compared to Hackman. Hackman was also an inch shorter than Christopher Reeve who was 6 ft 4.

I saw Gene 2 years ago in Mexico when I was on vacation. I was something of 30 Meter of him away, but he looked at least 6'1 compared to the poeple who walked there.
