I saw Hugh Grant in 1998 in South Kensington, London (where his Simian Films office was). He walked past me in the spring sunshine with his overcoat slung over his shoulder, alone and unhurried. I was genuinely struck at how short he seemed. In bare feet, I am a shade under 5' 11" (ie, exactly 180cm). I don't wear tall heels, but that day Hugh Grant was significantly shorter than I am. Perhaps he was just slouching, or had particularly thin-soled shoes - I don't know. I would put him a good inch or two shorter than I am.
I also remember another time, about 2-3 years later, when I saw him on The Letterman Show, and Letterman asked him how tall he was. There was a slight pause, as Hugh shuffled in his seat, and I could see in his eyes that his mind was racing, and he was thinking, "Do I tell the truth here, or do I come up with some piece of BS?" I can't remember for sure what he actually answered, but I think he said, "6 foot". The point is, whatever his answer was, I clearly remember thinking, "No way, you lying hound!" (I have tried to find this clip on YouTube since, but I haven't been able to.) Bon says on 17/Dec/10
There could be a possibility he's closer to 5'10 though, he's a long-legged, slender guy(at least when he's fit). Here's how he really looked to me in several of his films:

Extreme measures - anywhere from 5'10 to strong 5'11
Four weddings - 5'10 - 5'10.5
About a boy - solid 5'11
Notting hill - 5'10.5
