I work in fashion retail and we consider 5ft 3 and under small, 5ft 3.5 to 5ft 5.5 average and over 5ft 6 tall, this is British heights though

TheVerve, never has 5'5" or 5'6" been tall for a woman. That's average, sorry to break it to you. When I was in school we were told 5'6" for women and 5'9" for men was the American average. And in my town, girls who are 5'4" or under are considered short. You must be tiny yourself if you can honestly say 5'6" is "tall".

Actually, I think a legit 5'6" woman can pull off looking tall in big heels, Jolie, Denise Richards etc have all looked 5'9" to me at times.

5'6" for a girl is not tall, but tallish yes. A female this height is as tall for a woman as a 5'11.5" male for a man. Most people consider 6'0" to be tall for a man even these days. The corresponding female height is 5'6.5".

5ft3-5ft4 is average for women 5ft1-5ft2 is shortish, 5ft5-5ft6 is tallish.
