In certain scenes of Plains Trains & Automobiles, one might get the impression that Steve Martin was within an inch of John Candy. However, it is the camera angles. When they step back, you see Martin is clearly looking up to Candy and appears 2.5 inches taller than Steve. I'd say a legit 6'2 for Candy. In Stripes, again, he appears Bill Murray's height, but he slouches forward a bit while Murray stands up completely straight. It was obvious Murray was shorter than Candy by probably an inch. Also, in the Great Outdoors Candy and Aykroyd often appeared the same height, but you could tell Candy was slightly taller than him. Rugal Bernstein says on 10/Oct/09
Yes, Steven Seagal stated his own height as 6'5" and I don't think that it is a lie because he looks really tall for only 6'4" but I think that 6'4.5" can also be his height. I really don't know why Seagal is 6'4" on most of his websites although he claimed his 6'5" mark. Well, Mike Starr looked a full inch shorter than Seagal in the film On Deadly Ground and in the film Uncle Buck, Starr looked 1.5" taller than John Candy so Candy is a strong 6'2" and Starr is close to 6'4" so I think 6'3.5". John Candy was a very big guy, around 6'3" and weighed ever 300 pounds, but he was a really nice guy. I met him once in New York when he cam down and he was allways smiling and making jokes and was really funny, he will be missed. Anonymous says on 16/Dec/07

As a retired customs officer, I was walking down a terminal walkway with another officer, and we saw a HUGE - I mean GINORMOUS guy walking towards us. He seemed incredibly large both in width AND in height. When we got close, we saw that it was John Candy. We introduced ourselves and wished him a good night. But the thing is, he was in fact a tall man and his stature was intimidating. His personality however quickly balances it out, as he becomes very much down to earth when he talks to you - very friendly. In Spaceballs he's the same height as Bill Pullman who is 6'1" maximum, maybe closer to 6'0" (comparing to Will Smith in Independence Day). So I'd say 6'1", maybe pushing 6'2".
