he was an good inch shorter than Redskins RB Clinton Portis, who was 5'10.5" at the combine. Face to face mind you. I doubt Portis was in lifts, but even if he was, McConaughey still wouldn't have looked 5'10.75.

These attempts to peg McConaughey's height are really entertaining. There's no way in hell he's 5'10.75", unless you include the moused hair and stacked heels. Several comments here are from people who know him personally and they seem to have been ignored. My wife and I went to college with old Matt at the U. of Texas. She found this web site and got a good laugh out of the claims that he's pushing 6 feet. I lived 2 doors down from him, played basketball with him, pub crawled with him, and I guarandamntee you that he's barely 5'9" barefoot. My wife is 5'8.5" and she's almost eye-to-eye with Matt. He even jokes about enhancing his height with "big hair." Those of you who base your estimates on photos should keep in mind that he wears lifted shoes and big hair to create that illusion. Apparently it works. Take those away and he stretches to hit 5'9". Matt hangs out here in Austin when he isn't filming and he hasn't grown a millimeter since college. Really.

well anon, i've never been convinced that jake gyllenhaal is a solid 6'0. i'd put him at around 5'11 so pretty much the same as matthew barefoot. in your picture they're both leaning so its hard to tell but matthew seems a shy taller. could come down to footware.

oh and compared to armstrong matthew looks like a strong 5'11 as opposed to a weak one.

I am a "Dirk Pitt" fan from the Clive Cussler novels. Pitt was 6"4" and much more intimidating at that height than Matthew at 5'10"-5'11". Pitt's height was an asset on many occasions, even with the women. Jim Caviezal from DeJa Vu and Bobby Jones Stroke Of Genius would have been more of a Pitt, and he is 6'2", which shows you how at 6'4", Pitt would have been more so. He kooked a good 3 inches under 6'1 (listed) Daniel Sunjata in ghosts of girlfriends past. There were also a few scenes where he was only an inch or so taller than jennifer garner. She was no doubt in heels making her a weak 5'10 so he was about 5'11 in shoes.

I attended the U of Texas with Matt, used to play basketball with him on a regular basis. In bare feet or Converse shoes, he's 5'9" max. He used to joke about promoting himself to 6' when he got to be a big star. Obviously that has happened. He still hangs out here in Austin when not shooting. I saw him in a campus area pub last weekend before the Texas Tech game. Guess what--he's still 5'9".

For instance and having met/seen him before and i stand a solid 5'11 and a half... i measured, and 6' with boots on, and he's about BARELY(which would be an inch) shorter than me
