Oscar is NOT 5 foot 8 in the same way that he is NOT 5 foot 10.5 inches tall! The simple truth is that he is somewhere in the middle - I would strongly sugguest either 176cm or 177cm (i.e. around 5 foot 9.5 inches). I for one seriously doubt the 5 ft 11 or 5 ft 10.5 listing - this is just media hype coz some boxers just want to get a psychological advantage over their opponents by making themselves seem taller! Remember, in boxing height & reach can provide somewhat of an advantage, although personally my favourite boxers were always the shorter highly skilled guys (e.g. Roberto Duran)!

Oscar De La Hoya's height is 5'8 in real
Manny Pacquiao-5'4½ max-5'5½
Juan Manuel Márquez he's shorter than pacman in½
true height of Shane Mosley is 5'7
also Floyd Mayweather is 5'5 Vegas says on 4/Oct/11
russell if mayweather is 5'4 then there are alot of extremely short guys boxing at welterweight, that would put ricky hatton at ~5'2 (Pacquiao was roughly same height as hatton and mayweather was noticeably taller than hatton), shane mosley at 5'4-5'5, Juan Manuel Márquez at 5'3 and de la hoya would be 5'5 range
web listings at the best of times need to be taken with a pinch of salt, glenn loovens listed 5'8 Click Here and thats 5'8.25 barefoot measured rob next to loovens on the right with the blond hair, i guess loovens is wearing 5-6 inch lifts :D Click Here johno says on 3/Oct/11
Mayweather 5'5.5 Russell Ash says on 27/Sep/11
Floyd Mayweather, Jr. was actually listed at 5'4" (162 cm) for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. He was 19 during the games, so I doubt he's grown taller since then. He competed at featherweight in Atlanta, which is 126 lbs (57 kg), very low for a man of 5'8". Source: Click Here
One thing that makes 5'8" seem plausible for Floyd is that his wingspan is apparently 72″ (183 cm). Russell Ash says on 27/Sep/11
De La Hoya has been getting listed at 5'11" (180 cm) since the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. His wingspan is 73″ (185 cm) according to some sources, which makes 5'11" seem somewhat believable.
When he was 21, Oscar weighed in at only 130 lbs for his fight against Giorgio Campanella. Looking at photographs of the fight and watching it on youtube, it's hard to believe a man with his height and reach only weighs 130 lbs. johno says on 21/Sep/11
Oscar de la Hoya 5'7.5 - 5'8 max Truth says on 15/Sep/11
I have followed and participated in boxing for the past 20 years. In boxing, it is the normal to add 1-2 inches, or more on your height. Georeg Foreman was never 6'4" ....maybe more like 6'2" and de la hoya was never 5'10" ...maybe 5'8" at best. I have met both fighters several times and was not surprised that they did not match the listed height/hype. Poul says on 18/Aug/11
@Rob Floyd Mayweather was listed to be 168 cm in Atlanta 96'. He was 19 at the time. Do you believe that he has grown since then? I doubt it though.

Glenn is not 5' 7", he's 5' 6.5". He was measured 5' 6.5" 1st time round by Rob. We don't go by morning heights on here. Th stadiometer doesn't lie. Brad says on 14/Jun/11
His wife and rolling pin do things...haven't you read about him recently? runt says on 12/Jun/11
looks shorter every time I see him on tv. just saw him with Kelly Ripa, not impressive. the carl says on 13/May/11
this is a good opportunity to mention a few words about boxers height. in boxing, weight is critical. height is somewhat arbitrary. common to see guys have height rounded up to the nearest inch. de la hoya is an honest 5-9, maybe a shade over. so for him to be listed at 5-10 in some fights is not unusual. If Oscar De La Hoya is 5'9", then Floyd Mayweather must be 5'7". James says on 27/Mar/11
The G could have been wearing portmans with oscar though? Dominic says on 10/Feb/11
Hey guys, I just found some old fight footage of Hopkins and Oscar from 2004 and Im beginning to believe that 5'9 for Oscar is right on the money. Right at the start of the match they face eachother and Hopkins eyes are in line with the top of Oscar's head. That would mean around a 4 inch gap between them. Which puts Delahoya at 5'9. What's funny is, the tale of the tape prefight, listed Hopkins at 6'1 which we can assume is true. (He looks 1 inch taller than Calzaghe in their weigh-in photos, who Rob lists at 6'0). Yet amazingly Delahoya is listed at 5'10.5 in prefight stats. I think his height was just overestimated his entire career... burby says on 12/Jan/11
Vaj, I was being sarcastic. Yeah Oscar's 5'8". Ed says on 11/Jan/11
I met Oscar along with a good friend. My friend is probably 5'11".5 (though he claims 6ft). I myself am 6'3" (the short one in my family haha). Anyways, my friend had an easy 2.5-3 inches on Oscar. Oscar is certainly not 5'9" plus. vaj says on 10/Jan/11
Burby,
I have already posted a pic of my self measured at 5'9" barefooted and 5'10.25 with shoes. That day I spent a lot of time around Oscar and he is 5'9 in shoes for sure! burby says on 10/Jan/11

Mr.R with vaj he did look 5'8 Dominic says on 4/Dec/10
Vaj if he is 5'9 in shoes. Shouldn't his height be lower. I always assumed this site posted barefoot height? vaj says on 12/Nov/10
It's funny how people like to guess peoples heights they never meet in person. I met Oscar in person and he is 5'9" in shoes period. Dominic says on 25/Oct/10
Im with Gerald. Although I don't think Oscar is 2 inches taller than Shane but its definitely more than 1cm which is what this site lists. Oscar is more 176-177. There are old weighin photos of them and there is def more than 1 cm difference. Its also noticeable in the ring. |
