Saw Owen Wilson in Dallas Texas a couple nights ago. He was 5'9". Maybe 5'10" b/c who can really see an inch but I was inclined to say 5'8" though he was really only an inch taller than me and I am 5'7" and was wearing uggs (I know, gross but it was cold :)lol. You just can not judge relative height to other actors in films. "Bibo" is right - you never know whose standing on a box, or wearing Herman Munster boots. You have to compare their size to relative surroundings. Rooms and doorways - sets can be built to scale, but no prop guy is going to have special fags or spectacles or a scaled down bike made. He just yells - get me a bike! Or, we need sunglasses - here, give me yours! If a guy holds a teacup like a brandy snifter, safe bet he's in the Lollipop Guild, not just the Screen Actors Guild. OK. Here's another observation. In "You, Me and Dupree", Wilson is seen riding a regular 10-speed bike (you know -with the rams horn handlebars - that sort.) Have a look at the frame. The spot in the front where the top tube meets the bottom tube (the part that the handlebar tube inserts down into, yeah?) On bikes for smaller men, the two tubes basically meet in a proper triangle shape with no space between. In bikes for taller men, the tube they meet at is longer, and there is a 2-4 inch space between where those two bars meet. With me so far? Lol. Anyway, in the aforementioned film, he looks very much in scale to a smaller framed bike. As a result, I'd peg Owen Wilson at 5'5" or 5'6". Likewise Tom Cruise in "Risky Business". There's a scene where he's on a small framed 10 speed bike in a driveway with the guy who played "Booger" in Revenge of the Nerds - you know the guy. Anyway, its almost too big for him! Also. Have a look at the relative size of the Wayfarer sunglasses he has on, and the cigarette Cruise lights in closeup. His facial features are so small the fag looks like a Havana. And the ray bans are like a carnivale masque! Sometimes props are scaled down, sometimes they don't bother. I mean what sort of looney notices things like this? Owen Wilson is only a few inches taller than Sheryl Crow, who looks like a veritable child when holding a bass guitar. I play bass for a living, and they are typically 46 - 48" stem to stern. She's tiny. And rail thin. So is Owen. I'm good at this! Lol I was a college wrestler, so I'm very good at judging height and weight and proportion. Wish I'd gotten a gift that pays... James you're right about the Pitt & Damon comment, actually with Pitt, he never lets his height come out, which is suspicious. If you watch ocean's twelve when they're heights are being described by the police, they say everyone's height and when they get to Pitt's character (Rusty Ryan) she says "male, caucasion....." then it fades to the next scene. Also the same in Mr. & Mrs. Smith it lists Angelina's height on the prompt for her bounty but not Pitt's. It's almost like he doesn't want to claim a height in suspicion that someone will find out the truth.

I distinctly remember watching Vince Vaughn on Jay Leno about 10 years ago when he first was getting big and he claimed 6'4 then. I know the dude is tall, no question, but I often wonder if he isn't closer to 6'4 and just added the extra inch as he got bigger in hollywood. Incidently, a mate of mine has starsky & hutch on dvd, and we were watching it last night (3rd time im watching it). This was the first time I was paying close attention to the height difference between Wilson and Stiller, and its funny :(N) that you can possibly consider there being only 2 inches between Stiller and Wilson.
Wilson's body is so much bigger and wider than Stiller's, and he looks way taller than Stiller even with his hair adding him an extra 3-4cm.

I just saw You, Me, and Dupree. I'm confused. Matt Dillon gets billed at 6 feet (he probably shrunk to 5'11'') and in some scenes he looks 2 inches taller than Wilson. However, toward the end of the movie when Dillon and Wilson are walking down the street, Wilson looks actually an inch taller than Dillon. I am 5'9 and 1/4 in the morning when I wake up, and about 5'8 7/8 16 hours later...I am a total height obsessive ( have been since I could stand), and I ran into Owen Wilson briefly a bit ago. When I stood up as tall as I could in sneakers ( he was wearing sneakers too), He was still a bit taller than I ( a little more than an inch), when I relaxed as he was the whole time, he was solidly 2 inches taller than I. If I stand on a doctors scale and stand as tall as I can, I reach my max heights( listed above), but if I just relax and stand, I am 5'8 1/8---5'8and 3/8. Owen if he stood up as tall as he can would be right around 5'11 at the tallest, just like I am 5'9. Lastly I am around 155 pounds with a medium atheltic build ( 14 inch arms). He was somewhat naturally thicker than I thru the forearms and shoulders( kinda strong looking without looking like he lifts weights), which maybe makes him seem shorter on screen. I hope that helps. These celebs mostly all lie about their height. Unless they're truly tall, they lie. Why this is so hard to comprehend is beyond me. At party after party where I've met celebs or on film sets or even just on the street, I'd say about 75% are not as tall as their official publicity lists them as being. ok - I think Owen is 5'10" based on photos of him with Sheryl Crow. I'm 5'2" and was shocked when I saw here in person that she was shorter than me. She must be 5'1' max. In photos the height difference is about the same distance as me and my boyfriend who is exactly 5'11". My question is what is Lance Armstrong's real height. Just a comment to Mike Rotch the "height expert" I work in the film business and we use apple boxes and build ups to get people at the height we want them to be....when we spend millions on making movies, we control everything, including what their stature is relative to the camera...and as for the comment by sweetchild about her knowledge of whether or not OW wears lifts, lifts are inside shoes or special shoes are made with them inside, so they are invisible...you people need to get over this, what? are you a bunch of napoleans? lol Marc says on 4/Jan/06
I think he is 5'11". I'm 5'10", and have a 6'5" friend (same hight as Vince Vaughn). When I stand next to my friend I come up alittle bit above his upper lip, making him approxiamtely 7 inches taller than me. Second. You seem like really great at mesuring from what i've read on this page Rob; but the fact is that normal shoes can boost a man as much as 4-5cm or just 0.5cm. So what I mean is that if Jackie Chan is 179cm as you mentioned (which I dont know, he looks tall for an asian man), he could have 0.5cm shoes and Owen could have as much as 5cm ordinary shoes in that particular movie in question and that would make Owen taller. So assuming just becuase he looks taller and not considering the foot wear would make an inaccurate calculation, and what Owen says/not says about Woody Harrelsons shoes is true, one is not born with elevator shoes. I've just seen Wedding Crashers [amusing, but 45 minutes too long] and basically it's case closed.
I think unfortunately the comments below contradicting this height are circumstantial and spurious. Wilson is making no apologies for his height and is clearly comfortable with it.
Owen wilson is 5'10.05.
The director made no attempt to compensate that VV is substantially taller [even making a dialogue reference to his height]. In some scenes Owen was barefoot vs Vaughn in shoes and in others wearing loafers and he is irrefutably this height.
My conclusion is that if an actor is 5'10+ they probably don't lie about their height as it's not ever really been a negative issue for them.
Bankable, leading actors under this height [and with an horrible ego] feel it neccessary to propogate all kinds of nonsense [Cruise, Stallone etc] that keeps this site alive ;)
Wilson isn't in this category.
Exceptions would be Friends where highly focussed male competition is involved [and in such circumstances an added cm to their press release height can make all the difference to their happiness and perceived self worth]

Brad Pitt who is an anomaly as he is clearly above this threshold but has felt compelled to wear lifts to maintain the difference/advantage that smaller actors have taken away by engaging in 'simulating' their height.

We actually don't know how tall Sara Foster really is - she's listed from 5'7" to 5'10" (170-178 cm). Also, there are several problems with that photo: they are walking (which can change one person's height appearance a lot), they aren't at the same distance from camera (Owen is closer to the camera which you can determine by looking the "depth" difference od the foot that each one is "standing" on - it looks as he's 10-20 cm ahead of Sara) and they might not be on even ground. Owen actually looks a bit taller (considering the camera angle and distance), but check out his proportions compared to Willem's - size of his head and torso, arms, neck and shoulders. Ahhh yes people are finally starting to realise Owen aint that tall. At least no where near 5'11". I was doing some logic. If a 5'11" guy is supposed to be 1 inch shorter than Duchovony who we all know is about 6'0", and looks really tall on screen, then a 5'11" guy should look tall on screen to, makes sense? So why is it Owen Wilson never looks tall on screen even next to short Ice Cube in the first Anacondas and in all his movies with Jackie Chan he looks perhaps an inch taller. Owen is a pretty skinny fella, so it can't be his build. It must be the next best thing.
