I just saw The Reader, and it was hard to tell. A lot of his time was spent alone. In Strange Days (one of my favorite films), he wore cowboy boots for the whole film, and he still seemed shorter than Tom Sizemore, who I believe is listed here at 5-11. I think that he is between 5-10 and 5-11. If he were really 5-11, they would list him at six feet! (By the way, as always, he was FANTASTIC in The Reader! He deserved an Oscar Nomination. I agree that a lot of people don't know how tall they really are. I am one of them. When I first went into the US Navy at 17 years old, I was measured at 5'8". That was 23 years ago !!!. Since then, I have always said I was 5'8" when asked. I never had it checked again until a few months ago when I stumbled on this site. I got measured, and I was actually a solid 5'10" at mid day. Viper, its not that hard to believe - he just has really really bad height judgement. I suppose its something he never really thought about, so his guess work is crappy as a result.

A lot of people don't know how tall they are. There is a surprising amount of guessing and assuming. I worked with a girl who swore up and down she was 5'7", and she was at least 2 or 3 inches shorter than me (I am 5'7"). I knew for a fact what my height was because I had been measured the year prior. We measured her, and she's 5'4.5". The same goes for my boyfriend - who had mentioned in passing that he was around 6'1"...which left me almost speechless, because just by the look of him one would guess he is at LEAST 6'4". About a month after that he went to the doctor for a general check up and asked to be measured - and sure enough, he was marked at 6'5".
So I'm guessing that half of you assume your height rather than know it, and considering that these people we're talking about are celebrities and their image is important, they probably have these sort of things checked.
