Here is an old and neutral angle photograph of Reg Park and 6'1" Steve Reeves where they look similar in height: Click Here Heightcritique says on 28/Nov/09
Reg Park's competitive stats in Mr. Universe were as follows:
Height: 6'1" (185 cm)
Contest weight: 225-250 lbs (102-114 kg)
Off-season weight: 225 lbs (102 kg)
Arms: 20" (51 cm)
He was about an inch shorter than Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was Arnold's mentor and good friend. As as side note: Arnold stats in his first competitions indicate that he stood 6'00" when he 16 years old, which was about the same time he was invited by Park to stay and trained with him in South Africa. Here are some photos of them in South Africa: Click Here Click Here Click Here
Arnold post-puberty competition stats indicate that he was 6'2" and about an inch taller than Park: Click Here Click Here Click Here Click Here Click Here
Reg Park at 6'1" as listed appears correct. Johnny G says on 23/Oct/09
Reg was a little shorter the Steve Reeves, and Reeves was a legit 6'1" - I say Reg was 6' even Matt Sisk says on 5/Sep/09
Arnold's 6'2" listing is definately with shoes on. Him and Reg are almost identical height barefoot. Anon2 says on 8/Jun/09
No guys, Reg really is marginally shorter than Arnold. I know of all the photos in which you speak, like the one in Africa where they're both standing in water at a beach or pool. In most pics they're not standing on even ground, and Arnold has the tendency to curl his spine in when posing, making all the difference when it comes to half-inches. In the "fair" ones I do see of both men standing side-side, Arnold is clearly fractionally taller than Park. Since Arnold being widely accepted to be 6-1.5, makes total sense Reg Park was 6-1 as Editor Rob has it. Hugh 190cm says on 7/Jun/09
Rob I've seen at least 4 pics of this guy with Arnold Schwartzneggar and barefoot where he looks marginally taller. Is there a chance we could boost his height closer to 6ft2? I know it sounds a bit much but he looks taller than Arnie. And Arnie was measured at 6ft1.5! Hugh 190cm says on 7/Jun/09
Stood tall at 6ft1 and had the most impressive physique I have ever seen. John says on 16/Mar/09
There is a well known picture of Arnold standing beside Reg(barefoot in a pool)
in South Africa. Arnold is slightly shorter. Reg was about as tall as Steve
Reeves who I met(5'11" compared to my 5'10"). What must we conclude? Hugh says on 19/Nov/08
Could there be a chance that he was between 6ft1 and 6ft2 in his prime and say just over 6ft by the time of his death. Hugh says on 16/Nov/08
I think Park was similiar in height to Arnold except he didn't shrink as much. 6ft1.5 peak and 6ft1 by the time of his death. says on 25/Oct/08
Park looks always taller than arnold in all the pics Euan says on 18/May/08
if he was 6'1 arnold is DEFINITELY 6'1, i have arnolds autobiography and there is a picture of them barefoot and if anything park looks taller! Anon says on 4/Feb/08
Jim, I think ur right, that Reg Park was about 5-10 just before he died, here he is with Arnold at the 2007 Arnold classic where Arnold presented him a life-time achievement award and he does look about 2inches or so shorter than Arnold...

I think on Lynn's link to Mr. Park's official website, he's listing the average measurement of his peak height (6-2) with his current height (5-10) to get an even 6-0, as his honesty is getting the best of him. Remeber, he was probably pretty old when he set up that site (as internet is only a recent thing), and to choose a single measurement to best fit him, he probably felt 6-0 was best. Lynn believes Arnold was only 6-0 at his very peak so that's why he insists on Park being only 6-0 as well, but all those who met him as indicated below clearly indicate Park was 6-1 in his prime. Perspective Casey, perspective... J Myers Johannesburg says on 23/Jan/08
23 January 2008 : Reg and I were in touch continually for many years until his passing. Initially I met him when I competed in his shows and promotions in the 60s when he was in his prime(which lasted a long time) and later i became his attorney and was so until his passing. A man of greater integrity you will not find. He abhored lies and misrepresentation and his height would be as he gave it. I would place it at a genuine 6ft 1 and even in later years not much less if anything at all. Whats the relevance anyway?. Jim says on 24/Sep/07
Reg Park was one of my heros growing up in England ,I live in L/A. now,I have a picture with him at the Olympia contest held in studio city .I am 6 ft even and then he was about 5ft 10in but I bet he was my height in his prime .As a side issue he was a real gentleman as was Peter Lupus [mission impossible ] also my height [trained at same gym as me ] .when I came here from england I could not belive how many celebreties I had seen on t.v. lying about there height/size . I am a genuine 6 ft even and in shape have been 285lb with no steroids . almost no celeb lifts what they say [I have witnessed fake weights being used by an actor at the gym for magazine covers ]and 90% of bodybuilders don't lift what they say. It is a shame peoples ego or publicists won't let them just tell the truth . Lynn says on 12/Jul/07

I think this is the truth. Casey Butt says on 11/Jun/07
When Reg was 16 and 17 years old he was in the British magazine "Health and Strength" several times. Each time he was listed as 6'0". It's very reasonable to assume that he grew an additional inch by his twenties.
I corresponded with Ray Beck briefly a couple of years ago. He's not a "typical 80 year-old". He won a 10 km road race in his 70s. He is active on the internet. I don't doubt that he posted that message.
In the photos below Park is clearly as tall, perhaps even taller than Schwarzenegger ...and they're both bare-footed and standing with normal postures.

I have to agree with Patrick. In all the photos of Reg and Arnie together, with shoes on and barefoot, the Austrian Oak is 2 inches taller.
Check out 'Arnold: The Education of a Bodybuilder' book - you will see Reg is no six footer.
Bodybuilders have been lying about their heights since the fifties at least.
Or does anyone think Jack LaLanne shrank 8 inches? patrick says on 16/Apr/07
Who can say Reg was similar to Arnold? WHO? It needs to watch 60ies reports with them together! Arnold was definitely taller without any doubt; There are a lot of those reports in B&W, showing them meetin, posing next to eachother etc. Arnold had two inches on him; Something here doesn't add up! Danimal says on 26/Jul/06
I guess Ray Beck has left the building. I'm not sure Ray Beck is really who he claims to be, because if he is, then that man would be probably 80 years old and I don't know too many 80 year olds who are on this website, let alone any website for that matter...lol. Danimal says on 24/Jul/06
Ray, are you a former bodybuilder or a former official? Ray Beck says on 23/Jul/06
Reg was 6' 1". Same height as I was when I took his measurements. I had him pose at a show I ran in '54. He was a power trainer, used the heaviest weights I ever saw a BB use. No drugs. The first really huge bodybuilder with low body fat. Lou Ferrigno says on 29/May/06
Similar to arnold, maybe a bit taller leonari says on 27/May/06
saw one of his Hercules movies yesterday. 6'1" without a doubt.not taller, not shorter Gramps says on 27/May/06
It's one thing to be buff like Linda Hamilton was in Terminator II (thumbs up), or even former Ms. Olympia Cory Everson, but the women bodybuilders of today carry the idea to a grotesque level. J-Dog says on 25/May/06
I don't think Reg Park has any reason to embellish his height. Styx2 says on 23/May/06
Built people just tend to look taller than they are. J-Dog says on 23/May/06
I really don't think Reg Park boosted or tried to ever exagerate his his height. |
