British actor best known for TV shows The Office and Extras. In film he can be seen in Ghost Town, The Invention of Lying and in 2014's Muppets Most Wanted. He said in a 2009 Inside the Actor's Studio interview, "I'm 5 foot 8" and in another interview joked "I'm a lot taller than I look on television and younger, and for the role of David Brent I wore a fat suit under my shirt and trousers. Really I'm about 25 and about 6ft 1in tall. So that's probably why you don't recognise me in the street."

Well I have to say he certainly looks and acts like one of the happiest men in the world! One of the most likeable celebrities IMO as there's still something down to earth about him despite selling out stadiums like an old school rocker! One of the funniest comedians for sure, but behind Scotland's finest, Billy Connolly! Probably between 5'7 and 5'8, looks to have lost a fair bit of weight since his Office days.

I briefly met Ricky in 2019, I'm 172 cm (going by a workplace who took my height and also when I did a medical check in 2010, same result there) and I had normal Asics shoes on and he wore similar shoes but I was definitely taller which is very rare for me so I noticed it right away. Not sure what was going on there, thoughts? Also back then I was 40 pounds heavier than I am today, but I still feel I had a good posture.

His room was all ready for him, and painted black.

I doubt he'd bother lying about it, the way he takes the p!ss out of himself so much anyway, and he probably rounded up from a 5'7 and change peak to 5'8. Which is fair enough. I find it rather hard to believe that Gervais is 1.5 inches taller than Ben Stiller, he also look a pretty solid 2 inches under Steve Carell when Gervais cameod on the American Office. Saw the Ricky Gervias biography in the book store so I had a quick browse. There are a couple of photos from his younger days, he was once in a boy band which apparently didn’t have much commercial success but Ricky was a lot thinner and looked like a totally different person. It’s really astonishing.

Also, when Gervais was on the daily show he looked exactly the same height as Stewart who you have listed at 5'6.5". You can see the clip here Click Here
Finally, I agree with the poster below that Gervais may have taken to wearing bigger heals. If you watch series one of the office you'll notice that he and Martin Freemen seem to be the exact same height (especially apparent at the end of episode five when they're leaving the club). And in series two Patrick Baladi, who plays his new boss Neil, looks significantly taller. Yet in the Christmas special Gervais looks to be an inch taller than Freemen and doesn't appear as short next to Patrick Baladi as he did previously (especially noticable in the group photo at the very end of the special).
Considering all this I'd say he's much closer to 5'6".
