Henrik, I know for a fact that the average height of 18-year-old Swedish men was 1.79 m in 1981. Considering that average height has increased by about 1 cm per decade in the recent decades, and that some 18-year-olds haven't finished growing, I'd say that average height today must be clearly over 1.80 in Sweden.

I would say that 165-167cm (5'5"-5'6") is the norm for Swedish ladies where I live. The 181cm (strong 5'11") is for young Swedes, not all. It's just that I do not experience people at 190cm+ (6'3"), or even 185cm (6'1"), to be so common as some people think/say, giving me a hard time to believe that the average would be near it. I stand eye to eye with only a minority of the ones I meet/see. Tall people are not really uncommon, but being medium-sized seems to be the norm here. Perhaps people in Stockholm might be a tad taller. A person from Stockholm that I once met said that he experienced men from other cities to be shorther than the men were at home.

MD, yeah, I've checket that site now. My numbers were based on statistics from the Swedish army in 1982, when I was tested and measured, and so on, to see what kind of soldier I was suitable to be. I didn't know that Scandinavian countries had levelled off in height. Maybe due to increased immigration the last 20 years? Or could there be another reason? Why does average height increase or decrease in developed ("rich") countries?

Nic, a very quick look-up at the "human height" page at a site-that-can-not-be-mentioned, apparently, shows a study done in 2008 for 20-29 year olds that shows an average male height of 181.5 cm. I'd say that sounds a bit right, maybe a little tall. Most Scandinavian countries leveled off in height at least a decade, ago.

The "tallness of Swedes" is a bit exaggerated, in my opinion and to my experience. I live in Sweden and am around 6'3". I'm taller than the vast majority when walking in a crowd. Sure, it's not really a shocking experience for me to see guys who are the same height as me or taller, but I seriously doubt that the average here goes beyond 5'11" flat (180cm). I would personally maybe even think that it's closer to 5'10" (178cm) in reality.

Weak 6' (182cm) as average for Swedes would mean that it was the norm to find 6'1" (185cm) guys. It's really not, believe me. Just look at the Swedish Beck movies and particularly 6'2.5" (189cm) Mikael Persbrandt as Gunvald Larsson. He doesn't strike me as anywhere near average height.

No, Stellan is at least 191 cm. I wouldn´t even rule out 6'4''. He is tall. Standing up straight I thought 193, but he said 191 cm.
