Colin Hanks actually looks 1.5in and sometimes even 2in taller than his dad. There is a chance that Tom is maybe a fraction less than 6ft today aged 56-57.

Hov: He looks a lot shorter than Will Smith, for sure not the same height, you must have been looking at some distorted pics. I'm of the impression that Smith is closer to 185 cm rather than 186-187, as I've seen many pics of 6'2 Freeman being taller than Smith by at least 1". In return Smith looks 1-2" taller than Hanks, sometimes 2.5-2.75".
I have this theory, now, I'm not saying this applies for Hanks, but it's something I've witnessed a lot of 50-60 year ols do when they're slowly fading away from their peak height. They start to wear bigger footwear to achieve maximum height. My father does this, a bunch of his friends does it too.
Again, not saying Hanks definitely does the same, but it's a possibility.

I can definitely see the 5'11.5" for his peak height. 181 - 182 cm range is what I'd peg him at. I don't think he's dropped height like that though. To me Hanks seems like a guy who has probably only shrunk a matter of a few mm.

Yeah, in some photos he looks bizzarely 5'10"-5'11" next to Will Smith and in others looks pretty much the same height as Smith, 6'1"ish. I doubt he's a lift wearer so I guess that posture or proximity are the variabilities as always. but IMO he is pretty close to an even 6 footer.

@Matthew: True! Hanks looks to be struggling next to those guys in that photo. Heck, even Morgan Freeman is struggling to look his legit 6'2" next to Goldblum. But I do think that Goldblum was taller than his own claim of 6'4". I think he's one of those guys who liked to round down his actual height. He could even have been closer to 6'5" than 6'4" at his peak, perhaps.

He doesn't look 6'0" at all there. If you cropped out Freeman and Goldblum and just compared him to Will Smith he does look 6'0", but if you cropped out Will Smith and compared him to the other 2 it's hard to put him over 5'10.5".
He's listed at the same height as 50 Cent and looks close to it in this picture (maybe a he looks a hair shorter, but pretty much the same):

tom hanks was 1 inch taller then 5 foot 11 leno when he guest starred on the show. plus he is only 2inches shorter then 6 foot 2 letterman. he wears no lifts.he worked with actors over 6 foot and hasnt been much shorter then them like i said i pay close attnetion to his foot wear. he wears normal shoes

Hanks has always been a legit 5'11" range but not quite 6'0", 181/182 cm is likely. It's very possible he wore lifts to help play a particular role, like in Road to Perdition. He's not always living in them like Sly though.

Colin Hanks is at least 6ft1 if not 6ft1.5. He towered over Jack Black in Orange County and looked similiar to Harold Ramis. Tom Hanks is still 6ft IMO

For peak heights Danson at 189 cm and Hanks at 181 (182 max) seems reasonable to me. I don't think either has lost too much height if any.

In Splash he looked barely shorter than 6'2" John Candy in some scenes. Also in Dragnet he only looked a fraction shorter than 6'1" Dan Aykroyd, I think he was a good 6' at his peak. Today he could be 5'11.5" or so but in his prime I wouldn't buy anything under 6 ft 0 in.

Supposedly he was mentioned at 5'11" by AMC as notes earlier on this page. I've always thought 5'11". He's been described as 5'11" a lot, and looked it in his movies. Dmeyer seemed to think he was no less than 5'11.5", so I guess maybe I underestimated him by .5". I think he's a little under 6' rather than a little over. 181/182 cm would be a decent listing to me, I don't think he's 183/184.
