Guys, listen I have a friend that worked with him and his brother on their "McFit" commercials. He has a picture with both of them and he is 6-1 and has a solid build at around 200 lbs. Vitali is clearly 6-7 inches taller and wladimir is significatly taller as well. I tried to post the pictures but they didnt work. There isn't too much differnce between the two brothers having seen them recently on Sky. Probably only an inch in Vitali's favour. Wlad is more muscular and athletic but maybe not as tough as Vitali. Vitali 6'7'' possibly 6'8''. Wlad 6'6'' maybe 6'7''. Brilliant fighters although perhaps not always as aggressive as the American heavyweights of old. Hence some of the criticism of their 'boring' style. At around 2:08 you can clearly see that Wlad is taller than Thompson, and the same height difference is discernable in the "stare down" photos that were taken before the fight. As I mentioned below, it is very difficult to judge fighters’ heights while they are competing, because they are continually bouncing around, bobbing, weaving, ducking, etc. If one fighter bobs while the other weaves, a height disparity will ostensibly increase or decrease, and in some cases a fighter who is actually a couple of inches shorter than their opponent will appear to be the taller of the two.

Audley Harrison has one of the longest reaches in boxing and he is heavier than both Klitsckos, so this might have made him look bigger compared to Haye than Wlad did. However, I don't think that Harrison is taller than Wlad, and if he is, he certanly isn't "substantially" taller.

During the 'Big Fight' Haye looked a lot closer in height to Klitschko than I anticipated from the press conferences.
He certainly wasn't dwarfed and there only seemed 2-3 inches difference MAX as opposed to when Wlad took on 6'2 Peters & 6'1 Chambers.

Lots of boxers have disportionately long or short reaches for their height. Harrison has a longer reach than 7'0" Valuev, but Valuev is obviously much taller. My father is 6'1.5" but he has an 82 inch reach----longer than the reachs of Haye and Klitschko. Reach and height are not the same thing.

Wladimir claimed to be 196cm on German TV and that Hayden is 158cm (which is 5'0" in reality).
They showed a video of Mike Tyson before the fight on "RTL boxen" where he explains how David Haye has to overcome the height difference between him and Klitschko. Tyson said David Haye is 6'1". It's hard to understand with the German voice-over, but you can hear it on 0:30.

Audley Harrison is NOT taller than Wlad. I once saw a picture of them together and Wlad looked to be about 1.5 inch taller. I'm a big boxing fan and was told by an industry insider that Audley wore lifts durinng the press conferences for the Haye fight in order to make it seem like another "David vs Goliath" affair. I find Haye a real enigma. He towers over near 6-foot guys yet doesn't look 6'3" at all next to bigger guys. From watching and reading interviews, fights etc over the past few year of Wlad, I have absolutely no doubt that he is at least 6' 7.

Yet for some reason, he is listed some places as 6' 5 and claims (on several occasions) to being 'only' this tall.
Its my predication that he is apprehentious about his height advantage as it pertains to being a great heavyweight, what i mean by this is that he is conscious that all the things that make a boxer great, athleticism, ring intelligence, skills etc are overshadowed by the substantial height and reach advantage he brings into almost every bout and thus downplays this. It also might have a psychological consequences when he meets his opponents for the first time and they realize they are the 'smaller guy'.
As for Vitali, well, in any picture you see of the brothers he has a good inch on Wladamir and is again slightly taller when compared to their shared opponents and thus is at least 6' 8 - as is further evidenced with the comparison further down the page with Odom.
In conclusion, for anyone to say that these guys are any where near 6'7 is patently rubbish.

Why is it desperate to round down? It would be only desperate if you plan to round down to eventually have some weird kind of tactical advantage. But the height difference between him and Wlad is definately a solid 4 inches, no less. So he has to be 6'6". I think he's about an inch shorter than his brother. David Haye is I'm pretty sure very close to 6'3.

Haye is a BIG guy - it's just that he is a smaller heavyweight and he is essentially fighting boxers who occupy a non existent SUPER heavyweight division.
East Europeans who are between 6'6 and 7'0.

Tommy - about an hour later on Sky Sports News they asked Wladimir his height and he said "I am 6'6 in the morning and 6'5 at night - so I am 6'6 right now".
He then stood up next to the SSN present who claimed he was 6'4.5.
He looked about 3.5 inches taller than him!
Very difficult one to figure. He looks more than 3 inches taller than David Haye.
BUT ...
Haye looks every inch like his listed 6'3 next to 6'3 Andy Murray and Rio Ferdinand. And is clearly taller than 6'1.5 Jonathan Ross & 6'2 Chris Evans when interviewed by them.

It's the angle, really. Vitali has shorter arms (80 vs. 81 inches), narrower shoulders, smaller hands, and a smaller head than Wladimir. Wladimir weighs about the same, sometimes less, but his build is naturally more robust; he's just a huge tall guy naturally, while Vitali is more lanky and skinny.
When Wlad says his brother is "the stronger one", he's referring to boxing skills; his English isn't too good :P. Wlad is of course still the shorter of the two, by about an inch. tommy says on 11/May/11

I met both Vitali and Wlad in Hamburg 2002. Unlike many other athletes they're every bit as big as they claim to be...maybe even bigger.
I'd put Wlad at 6'6,5" and his big brother at nothing less than 6'7,5".
Interesting observation: Wlad looked about an inch taller than Jameel McCline and Ray Austin when they fought. Both are listed at 6'6".
He also looked clearly taller than 6'5" David Bostice in their 2000 mismatch. 1 says on 8/Apr/11

Rob on Conan Wlad said he was 6'5 and that Vitali was 6'6. My friends dad also has a picture with Vitali with a few work colleges. He's 6'3 and doesn't look more than 3 inches shorter to be honest. Yeah, but I don't think Haye actually is 6'3...or Lennox Lewis and Audley Harrison are taller than 6'5. Audley and Lewis looks about the same in height.

I think Dolph is about 6 ft 4 (regardless of how he appeared to Conan - he generally looks 6'3.5"-6'4" range nowadays). Accounting for Vitali's slouch I'd say 6'7" is more accurate than 6'8". Anonymous says on 21/Feb/11

I met VItali in Los ageles a couple years ago, he's about 6'7-6'8, I'm 6'2 and he easily had me by 5 or so inches. Wlad is about an inch and a half shorter, so he's probably about 6'6 even. Moke says on 21/Feb/11

On their own website Wladimir is listed at 6ft6 (1m98) and Vitali at 6ft6.75 (2m00). Oddly the english version states Wladimir at 6ft5.

Watched a Sky Sports boxing show. Wladimir Klitschko stood next to Johnny Nelson who described himself as slightly under 6'3''. Klitschko was a fair bit taller, at least 4 inches I'd say. His brother is an inch or two taller again. No wonder they are so difficult to box against. |
