Carradine was two inches shorter than six-foot Myron Healey in a The Unearthly:

I'd say Carradine was five-ten later in life and no more than five-eleven when young. He was also very thin. I doubt he weighed more than 150 lbs.

Watch the films he was in like 42nd Street.

Carradine looked at least 1`80. Baxter, I have no idea. I have only seen him in Prisoner of Shark Island and can´t recall his height. All I remember is I liked the movie. Is a John Ford movie; enough for me

Can you provide some videos/photo comparison?

Warner Baxter (with lifts) was the same height as Jack Oakie who was about five-eight.

Baxter (with lifts) was considerably shorter than Dick a Powell who was about five-ten.

And yes, Arch, with some things I do know what I'm talking about.

Well, "Knowitall" is certainly a very suitable user name :-)

For sure, it's possible that Baxter was a lift wearer, perhaps most convincingly in looking shorter than Fredric March (forgot his lifts for that role?) However, I don't see Carradine as under six foot. Next to Henry Fonda, he looked within one inch, and next to 5'10" Milton Berle in one of these photos, he's slouching and still looks a little taller. Also, next to Wayne in Stagecoach he didn't look under that and was for sure taller than 5'10" range Thomas Mitchell.

He was no more than five-eight. I once knew a relative of Baxter's. He told me Warner was short.

Look at his films. He wears lifts in all of them. He's considerably shorter than actors who were no taller than six feet.

John Carradine wasn't six feet. More like five-ten. He was two inches shorter than six foot Myron Healey in The Unearthly. I know Healey was six feet because I met him.

I find it hard to buy that Baxter ever wore shoes the size of Lorre's in Casablanca for instance...
Arch Stanton said on 18/Mar/14
He might have worn lifts on occasions but proportionally 5 ft 8 IS ridiculous for him. As Sam says he typically looked a strong 5'11 guy on screen.

I haven't seen much of his filmography, besides 42nd Street years ago and The Prisoner of Shark Island, but you can see next to the more than six foot John Carradine that he seems 5'11" range. 5'10.75" is unusually specific and accurate for a Hollywood actor listing at the time.

I suppose in the 30's and 40's you could get away with describing actors taller. It's the same with date of births. I mean Baxter might have been shorter and as Know says in lifts more than imagined.

Go to this webpage then down to the second to the bottom row. The third picture from the left shows him wearing obvious lifts. But the last picture over shows him several inches shorter than five-ten Fredric March!

5'8 is pretty crazy Knowitall, proportionally he just didn't have a 5'8 frame. To think he'd be the same height as Bogart is pure fantasy. Proof of his big lifts please.
Knowitall said on 13/Mar/14
Nope. Five-eight max. He always wore lifts.
Arch Stanton said on 12/Mar/14
Thanks Rob. 5'10.75 is probably genuine, seems rather precise, but like Robert Taylor and a few others he could look a strong 5'11" guy on screen. Baxter IMO was one of the best earlier actors, worth checking out some of his films.
