Great, so are we ready to give Piccoli a page at 5’11.5”, Rob? He was a pioneer of French cinema. Or should we keep searching for further evidence to support 5’11.5”?
Gerald S said on 31/May/23
Rob, so that Montand & Piccoli comparison further supports 5'11.5" for Piccoli, doesn't it?
Editor Rob
Yes it could be on the money.
Gerald S said on 30/May/23
I see Montand as 1.5-2 inches shorter than Arthur Miller. Probably more likely over 6’1” than under it for Montand, but James Garner had an inch on Montand in Grand Prix!
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 29/May/23
About an inch or so shorter than Arthur Miller

6ft1 flat is the lowest I'd argue as other times he has looked 6ft1½. 186cm was spot on
Gerald S said on 28/May/23
Rob, how much height difference between Montand and Michel Piccoli at around 16:45? 1.5 inches?

Roughly, could see a little more than that.
Arch Stanton said on 27/May/23
I said back in 2017 he wasn't 6'1.5!!
Gerald S said on 27/May/23
Yes, so you may want to give Montand 6’1” then, Rob?

Don’t underestimate his exceptionally slim build which may have contributed to him looking taller than he was. His character in Police Python 357 was also described as 1m85 or 1m86. James Garner definitely had a fair bit of height on Montand in Grand Prix. I think a flat 6’1” could be the ticket for Montand.
Editor Rob
6ft 1 kind of puts him on 185.4cm, which is between the two figures, so it could be a fair mark to place Yves at.

Rob, at 1:40:06, Montand's character has a passport listing of 1.85m.

That's interesting.

Rob, could you please squeeze in La Menace and Lovers Like Us to Montand’s credits?

Rob, could you please add César and Rosalie, Police Python 357, Z, and The Red Circle to Montand's credits?
Sinclair said on 17/Sep/22
Rob, could Montand please be added to the French actors tag, next to Philippe Noiret?

I would again strongly suggest that Montand get downgraded to 6’1” flat. He could even look under 6’1” at times in Police Python 357 and Manon des Sources.
Sinclair said on 29/Jul/22
Admittedly, I can see the logic in 6’1.25”, Montand could really look 186cm with 5’11.5” Michel Piccoli in Vincent, François, Paul... et les autres but James Garner had a good inch on Montand in Grand Prix, making me settle on 6’1” flat for Montand. Perhaps, Garner was 6’1.75” in the 1960s.

Montand also looked no more than 6’1” in Manon Des Sources; he was sixty-three years old by then though...
Sinclair said on 26/Jul/22
Rob, I believe a downgrade is in order for Montand.

At 53:50, 6’1.5” James Garner is easily taller than Montand, at least an inch difference there.

The 186cm figure looks believable!

Rob, apparently Montand was given 1,86m in his biography.

I'm not sure which biography it was

Rob, what do you think about the attached photo with Montand and 6’1.5” James Garner?

Wow! I now really have a hard time believing anything more than 6’1” for Montand.

Looked about an inch higher than me.

He actually looks a lot like Bogie, albiet a much taller version!
Arch Stanton said on 7/Jan/17
He did look like he could be related to Bogart and Jean Claude Van Damme!
Arch Stanton said on 7/Jan/17
Montand might have been a guy who was actually nearer 6 ft but wore lifts in some films to look 6'1.5-2. Not impossible. Really struggling to see 187 in Grand Prix, especially with Eva Marie Sant!
Arch Stanton said on 7/Jan/17
Honestly looks nearer 6 ft in Grand Prix to me. Did he lose height by 1966?
Arch Stanton said on 7/Jan/17
@Rob, Garner was noticeably taller in Grand Prix see 53 minutes Click Here

Could look 6ft1 or 6ft2, to be honest

I think he once claimed 186 cm in a French interview (not 100% sure).

Arthur Miller consistently looks about two inches taller than him in their photos together:

I think 186 cm sounds right. Perkins was probably the same or a flat 6'1".

He does look about 6ft2 w/h Wayne
AlexMahone said on 14/Apr/15
Gonzalo: In the picture what you linked in, Montand is clearly 6'2 (188cm) if Wayne is above 192....

looked tall in The Wages Of Fear,I thought between 6'1 and 2 was perfect.
Arch Stanton said on 24/Mar/15
Cheers for that. Spot on I think, what I guessed a while back.
AlexMahone said on 24/Mar/15
Thanks again to added him Rob! :-) At last...:-)

But do you think Rob that he was only 187cm? A lot of pictures was he taller than Anthony Perkins who is 187cm on this site. In "Grand Prix" his height was similar to peak 188cm James Garner's.
Editor Rob
88 is arguable, he can look anywhere from 6ft 1 up to 6ft 2.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 24/Mar/15
186-187cm range is about right
