It was 1940s, 5'6 would have been fairly big for women, especially since I see a lot of 5'8 guys in those old films. Like 5'8 was really common back then.

In the 1940s, I'd say more like over 170cm would be very tall, Maureen OHara, Sophia Loren, Gia Scala, Ingrid Bergman, those would have been considered very tall for their generation.
