In Stay Hungry there is a clear full-body shot of a barefoot Arnold standing next to Jeff Bridges who is wearing shoes. Arnold is barely shorter than Jeff, who is 6'1" and would be 6'2" or more in shoes. Thus we can conclude that Arnold was indeed around 6'1" in his youth.
You can tell just by looking at Arnold's proportions today that his torso is collapsing into itself, his arms and legs look too long for his body.

My dad is 185cms 6'1 in the evenig and meet Arnold in the 70s when he came to Australia. He said he and Arnold were exactly the same height. So 186cms is the most i can see him being. The 6'1.75/187cms wouldve been an early morning measurement

I think you've a point here. Arnold is the kind of guy who hates anything slowing him down, and he's spoken in past interviews about his disgust of ageing. He's had many injuries and operations over the years, and rarely spoken about them. The guy even tried to keep his heart surgery secret from people closest to him.

Check out Arnold in the movie Maggie, which he made when he was 67. Almost all the shots of Arnold are taken from mid-chest up, which is ironic, since Arnold's career and appeal are based almost entirely on his physique. I suspect that he is crippled and cannot move for more than a few seconds without giving this away.

I think its pretty clear he's hovering around the 5'11 mark at the minute. He can look lower than this at times but I think if he busted a gut he'd just about scrape a flat 5'11 in the early afternoon.
He seemed to hold his height pretty well until his mid 50's, around the time of Terminator 3 when he still looked a very solid 6 footer.
When he became governor he aged about 30-40 years in a very short time. His hair thinned, his skin began to wrinkle and his spine seemed to collapse in on itself. Measured? When was Reg measured? Provide your source. I've been a fan of bodybuilding my whole life and I've never ever seen a document stating his MEASURED height. He has been called both 6'1" and 6'2", just like Steve Reeves, but 0 reference to an actual measurement and btw, there are dozens of pics of Arnie and Reg from the late 60's where sometimes they look the same height, sometimes Reg looks taller and sometimes Arnie does, so one pic of them does not prove anything.

I think Arnold looks around 180-182 these days, in my opinion to drop from 187 to 180 it's less probable, but who knows. 185 can be more realistic guess. I cant see Arnold at 187

My dad is 5'11 when he was young and he insist the two time when he met a young arnie he was no way over 6'0 and i told him he was listed at 6ft 1.5 and claim it he laugh and say he can only be this height in boots. Somehow i agree it and i think he look at most 5'11 nowadays

I'm not even remotely convinced that's tip-toeing. That's just the angle of his foot. If he was standing on his toes they'd look scrunched up, and they're flat.

Back in the 70s and 80s when magazine articles would go on about Arnold's clothing sizes and chase him up in stores around LA, they mentioned his 34" inside leg, and a 34 or 36" waist - pretty fair a tall and long-limbed fellow as he was. Let's jump to 2000, and if we look here Click Here we see his pants are 38" waist 33" leg. In 2012 Click Here he's wearing a 38" waist and 32" leg.

Watching him in the new celebrity apprentice trailer it's clear that Arnold has lost significant height - I would think primarily in his knees and his lower back. I think it's interesting to try to figure out when he lost the height.
His peak of 6'1" or 1.85 was probably up to age 45 or so.
I think he lost 1" by 55 and another 1" by 65 and perhaps even another half an inch since then. I think he'd struggle to reach 5'11" in the morning now.

Not just people over 6 foot. I have a friend in his late 60s now who used to measure over 5'10 but on his last doctors checkup was only 5'8, much to his disappointment! Funny because he always used to round himself up in general conversation and say he was 6 foot tall, when we could all see he was nowhere near it!

My mother's cousin met him in their primes. Our cousin claimed 6'1" prime but who knows if that was Morning or evening and he said Arnold was around the same height. So at worst he was a legit 6'0" guy maybe strong 6'0" prime. Yes 5'11" today makes sense but in his prime some of the comments below are crazy. He was legitimately over 6'0" tall lifts or no lifts

Personally I would shave a half inch off both his peak and current height.
For sure his current height as he can indeed look under 5'11" at times with bad posture. Its been a few years since he looked near 6' without generous footwear.

Arnold certainly does look smaller on the second batch of pictures, but he's still clearly taller than Dennis Wolf. It's the angle of the pictures - on the ones shot from low down he looks the same height. the third picture is shot from a level, or higher, and you can see he's got a couple of inches on him. I'd still say he's 5'11 these days, out of shoes. But Christ he looks tall next to Nasser in that very first picture - there's no way that fellow could've been 5'11.5"

Have studied his height for many years now, on comparrison to dozens of other celebrities with more easily identifiable heights, I personally put him now at a good 5ft 11in, most probably adding half an inch to that! In his day, 6ft 1/2in - 1inch no shoes and in the morning.

The reason Arnold's upper body looks 'compressed' is simple. Look back at photos of him in his bodybuilding prime - as a tall man he is/was very long-limbed. Usually the way with tall people - all the height comes from the legs. So Arnold's torso was never particularly lengthy. Now he's pushing 70, his middle has, quite naturally, thickened - hence the illusion of being 'compressed'. I agree with the overall opinion here - he's probably only dropped a couple of inches, from 6'1 - 5'11.

There's a Shawn Ray interview somewhere about when he first met Sergio Oliva. Shawn Ray was well known as a 5'7" "giant killer" in bodybuilding. By this point Sergio was in his late 40s or even 50s, and Shawn mentions being surprised that he was almost as tall as this man he'd considered a mythological giant all these years. So therefore, well into middle age Sergio must have still been a couple of inches taller. Shawn himself listed Oliva's stats on a tribute on a message board somewhere and put him at 5'11 (presumably when younger). I'd always heard and read he was 5'10 myself and inclined to believe it.

I also have a friend that met him when he toured an Oshkosh Truck plant a few years ago. My friend described Arnold as small, but to be fair my friend is 6'1.5" to maybe 6'2" and about 235 lbs of muscle

Schwarzenegger was 6'1" at his peak. You could tell from his films he was never 6'2". He probably wore lifts in later films.

Walked past Arnold in St James's (London) last night. Did a double-take, as I wasn't exactly expecting to see him. He was with an older gentleman and a woman pushing a pram (has he just had a kid??). He didn't look gigantic, maybe a 6 footer but not much more. He noticed me staring and smiled, so that's my brush with fame.

Ok, bit of a weird one this but bare with me. If you see George Clooney and Danny DeVito in the recent Nespresso commercials, Danny comes up almost to George's collarbone. If you see pictures of Arnold and Danny at the Golden Camera Awards in Germany last year, Danny comes up to mid-chest on Arnold. If we go with this then Arnold is an inch or so taller than George Clooney (who is comfortably over 5'10). So therefore, yes, probably 5'11 - 6 foot, as most people here say.

There is also a pic of Arnold shaking Holyfields hand dating back 20 odd years ago,and both men are about the same height,in fact Arnold could have the slight edge on Holyfield.

Rob has a pic with Chris Eubank and gave the ex boxer 5'10". Arnold was pí®ctured with Eubank a few years ago ( On his page or here)and still looked 6ft in comparison.
He used to be 4 inches or so taller than Stallone, the difference is down to 3 inches, with equal footwear ofc.
Proving he has lost more than Sly with age.
Rob met Evander Holyfield and gave him 6'1.25" - 186 cm.
You guessed it...A pic circulated here for a while of Arnold and Holyfield standing next to one another. My guess was 5'11.25" from that pic. It looked a standard 2 in difference.
