About 5 inches taller than Charles Bronson in Breakhart Pass, seems about right.

I first met Ben Johnson on the set of the film "Let's Get Harry" during a hot day in Hollywood, when I was working there as an actor. I saw him sitting by himself during the lunch break and went over to say hello. As I approached him he saw me out of the corner of his eye and immidiately stood up to his almost 6'2" height, smiled and extended his hand and said "Thanks for coming over and saying hi." We then chatted about his films and how much I admired his work. I then said goodbye and he looked me directly in the eyes, then shook my hand firmly, smiled and said, "Be seein you." Johnson is the most genuine, kindest actor I have ever met in Hollywood. A true gentleman...

Hi gaze, like that of Leo Gordon's, could freeze one's blood... and yeah 6'2" and 210+ seems right. Big, menacing bloke.

Did he have a short twin?
I remember a short guy with same face in John Wayne movie.
He didn't look 6 2 with Selleck either must make him slouch or hunch.
Looked similar to oates who didn't look very tall.
Maybe 6 2 peak way under that in his old age.

My mother was in a movie with him in 1971, and for a woman, she was pretty tall (5'9"), and she talked about how tall he was...she always noticed how short many actors were. She said he looked at least 6'2", and he was getting up in years by then. She also talked about how kind a man he was...I actually think she was a little taken with him.

In Major Dundee, Johnson often seems around an inch taller than Richard Harris.

A very nice guy and a very tough man by all accounts. Champion rodeo rider in his younger days I read somewhere. Did watch a clip where Irish actor Richard Harris presents him an award or vice versa and they are the same height. Harris is given anywhere from 5'11'' to 6'2'' his own claimed height although some doubt this. Perhaps Harris wore lifts if Johnson was 6'2''.

Taller than a young Jeff Bridges, Rob?

Rob, could you add The Sugarland Express and Hang 'Em High to his credits?
Sam said on 10/Jun/15
Thanks for adding! Great presence in so many great Westerns...he was so good at being a youthful, shy cowboy early on that his nickname was "Bashful Ben Johnson", but his middle-age roles on showed a lot of gravitas and wisdom even while playing a murderous thief in The Wild Bunch.
Yeah, Johnson looked 6'2" range. I think he edged out Ward Bond who might have actually been a smidge under 6'2", especially compared to Errol Flynn. At times Johnson could look 2 inches under The Duke but sometimes a bit closer. Don't really remember how he stacked up with Eastwood in Hang Em High or even if they stood together in any shots.

He was a very big man. He towered over the other members of the wild bunch. And not much shorter tahn John Wayne. 1,88 sounds fair for him
Arch Stanton said on 10/Jun/15
Yes, I think he definitely looked a legit 6'2 guy!

Those are some remarkable films he was in!
