In hard times he appears shorter to 6'1" Robert Tessier, but definitely not that much shorter. Maybe he wears lifts, otherwise he's much taller than 5 ft 7.5

I read some where that Bronson had a height complex. Look at his shoes in the Death Wish movies. It Looks like hes wearing lifts to me. No more than 5'7.

Everyone around the Hanover/Lebanon NH/Windsor VT area saw Bronson in person for years. I saw him, up close. Look-he was maybe 5-7 if that. He was solidly buildt but he was NOT 5-9 or taller, hate to break it too you.

He always looked in a good shape, but I´d have bet he was no less than 5 ft. 9 or a bit more. Evidently, I may be wrong. Though, a great actor with strong personality, showing a good presence.

I hate to repeat myself, but ppl who think that Mr. Bronson is taller than 5'8'' should watch the Dirty Dozen especially look at the lineup scene. Breakout with Robert Duvall and the Magnificent Seven. There is also a lot pics showing that Charles Bronson is 5'7'' - '5'8''. Also ppl who saw him always stated that he was a petit guy.

He looked closer to 5'10 in Kid Galahad with Elvis, but then there aren't many scenes where you can see a categorical shot of them next to each other and head to foot. No way was he 5'6 though as Lmeister's CV anecdote suggests.

I read some pages of his bio and It was pointed out that he put 5'11'' to his CVs and audition forms, but in reality was almost 5'' inches shorter.

R-70 most actors of those days were no taller than Bronson. It is wrong to think that actors are usually tall, in fact most are short to average. Back in the 40s and 50s anyone of about 5'8'' or more would be a 6 footer in official publicity.

yes, it does, mere shadows of themselves, "Hard Times" is one of my favorite movies, Bronson i believe was in his mid 50's (when in "Hard Times")and physically looked great. I remember a picture in the National Enquierer showing Bronson being in a wheel chair, he was close to the end and looked already dead, his eyes unfocused, really sad. We all age and it ain't pretty sometimes, Cary Grant seemed the exception!

So, Bronson seems to have been of average height for his generation, but not compared with Hollywood actors.
My impression is, after Bronson became a star in the mid 1960's, co-actors of similar height (as Robert Duvall) were choosen, so the audience should get the impression that Bronson has got the height of an average Hollywood acor.

Hmm there is a scene in Breakout where he is next to Robert(5'9.5'')Duvall. Duvall isn't wearign shoes and Bronson is wearing high heeled boots and still Bronson was only one inch taller. Bronson's peak height was 5'7.25'' tops.

Charles was 5'7" I stood right next to him when we spoke. He also had a slightly higher heel on one shoe since he suffered from a short leg.

Hmmm ! He looks around 5 cms taller than Liv ullmann in " De la part des copains" and Liv looks pretty tall for a woman, certainly more than 170 ( she looks clearly taller than Catherine Deneuve in " Speriano che sia femmina", for exemple).

Rob U downgraded Yul Brynner back to 5'8'' as I recall he looks an inch taller than Charles Bronson in that promo shot + all the comments about him being 5'7''. Maybe time to downgrade Mr Bronson???

Just watched Death Wish 3. In one scene they put Bronson against a height chart. On first glimpse he hits 5'11", but it's probably more a case of the angle they put the camera at and his distance from the wall. Looks like he could be hitting 5'9 1/2", 5'10" in reality on the chart (with shoes on). So something in his shoes perhaps?

I worked for the Camas Prairie Railroad back in the mid 1970s when they were filming Breakheart Pass, much of which was filmed on that railroad. So I was well aware that Charles Bronson and other big names were in town. I ran into Bronson in a jewelry store in Lewiston, Idaho, the largest town on that railroad line, and the location of the railroad's headquarters, switch yard, repair shops etc. I passed him in an aisle, not more than 6 inches from him. I'm 5' 8", and he appeared to be a little shorter than me, certainly no taller. After seeing how they always portray him as a tough guy, I couldn't believe he was so small. I'd say your guess of 5' 7" is accurate (assuming normal shoes, which I didn't notice). If he's not 5' 7", I'd believe 5' 6" before I'd believe 5' 8".

What was even more revealing was that I noticed the guy next to him who was supposedly meant to be shorter actually had maybe half an inch or more on him. It was strange because in The Great Escape without thinking too much about it I took him as a strong 5'11"er. Seriously he looks no taller than 5'7 1/2".

In "Vera Cruz" Charlie looks his true height 5'7".He is probably the shortest guy in there.Borgnine is average in there about 5'11",not looking short even next to Gary Cooper.

Correction to my comment. Charles seemed more than 2 inches shorter than Telly Savalas not Ernest Borgnine. Bronson looks really short in the beginning of the Dirty Dozen during the line up scene. After that scene there is no full body shots of him...

According to "The Washington Post", Bronson was only ever 5'7 at his peak. I think the "5'10" listing was untrue, and should be corrected here.
