Around Nat King Cole's height I think, looks about right. Quite tall for his era. The heart of rock n roll lies in songs like Johnny B. Goode, Roll Over Beethoven. Playing along to the records played loud on the piano is arguably more fun than even the guitar and brings the music even more to life. Gives you a literal high and energy surge. Same with Jerry Lee Lewis's Whole Lotta Shakin and Little Richard's Good Golly Miss Molly etc. It's raw and so rockin' it should be illegal haha! My blues piano chops are getting Jules Holland esque now!

I’ve just listened to My Ding-A-Ling some five times. Nice looking guy was Chuck, and very cheeky!

When I was 11, Chuck had a hit with ‘My Ding A Ling’. It was very funny and made it to number one. Mary Whitehouse didn’t approve and a cartoon had to be made to cover up the rudeness. We were all singing it at school!

6ft0.75.

He was probably honest about his height I believe, and a true immense talent and innovator, possibly the most gifted rock star of the 50s. He would be canceled summarily today for real horrible stuff he got up to with the ladies (or girls more accurately). You’ve got to hate the jerk, like the work sometimes.

I would have guessed 6'1 at the very most. Awesome rock star!

*remembered ;)

And still no listing for Little Richard(or would that be 'Big Richard' going by the CH tradition?)??? Good golly, Miss Molly!

Sorry to hear about Chuck.
A fantastic influence on music, he will always be a legend and he'll live on in his hits. Only yesterday I mentioned him in one of my comments. Today I find out that he has died.

RIP Chuck xxx

The picture that someone thinks is Elvis with Chuck Berry is really Elvis with BB King!
Bruce said on 22/Mar/17
Arch Stanton 17/Aug/15: The answer to your dilemma is: that's not Chuck Berry that Elvis is standing with in your picture.

I just saw a picture of Chuck Berry with Mick Jagger in the 1970s and he was easily 6'1. He looked closer to 6'2

Why would he say something so precise as "I weighed in at 172 pounds, stood six feet, one-half inch" if he was taller? The logical conclusions to draw from your observations is that Mick Jagger is shorter than you think, or the picture is deceiving, due to its angle, lens distortion or posture of the performers.

How tall is he now ?

Saw him a few years ago in the old movie "Go, Johnny, Go" (featuring the legendary Alan Freed) and he definitely looked like a tall guy compared to the other folks he was around. Six feet plus is on the mark.

Considering that John Lennon has now been downgraded slightly to 5'10", I think 6'0.5" is on the nose for Berry, the difference between them looked realistically 2.5 inches.
Sam said on 29/Aug/15
Yeah, B.B. King, never seen him looking so youthful...probably around 5'8.5" compared to Elvis if I had to guess. Back to Berry, the "Million Dollar Quartet" (the random gathering of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins & Jerry Lee Lewis) spoke with a bit of awe of him, if in some what antiquated racial terms...

Arch Stanton - that's Elvis with BB King.

Always thought Chuck was big - his fingers are like sausages!

Would interesting to have seen a pic with Elvis and Chuck...the two giants of 50s rock. If Steve was right on Presley, Berry would be about 1.5 inches taller, but I doubt the difference would look more than a weak inch if that.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 18/Aug/15
Rob, is 6ft1 a possibility?
Editor Rob
I think the 184cm makes sense.
Sam said on 18/Aug/15
Not the best pic, but here's Berry jamming with Keith Richards and a typically bent over Neil Young.

Yeah, still bore the build of a fairly lanky guy even when losing height in his 80s when I saw him perform...not Berry in that photo, Arch, the guy with Elvis looks familar though.
Arch Stanton said on 18/Aug/15
Taller than I thought, agreed TJE. I thought of him as 5ft7-8!!
TJE said on 17/Aug/15
I never expected him to be this tall. Always thought he was like 5'9; but seeing him with John Lennon, I won't object to the listing.
Arch Stanton said on 17/Aug/15
Chuck Berry was 6 ft 3., Elvis was almost 6 ft 6 ;-) Click Here Somebody is wearing lift...

Awesome find on the quote, you got me beat! Thanks for adding...believable, could look may 2-2.5 inches over John Lennon, 3 over Keith Richards. That claim from someone else that he was 6'3" was obviously a huge stretch.

Saw him live about a dozen years ago, double-heading with Little Richard, obviously lost an inch or two but still a good showman, if not as interactive as Richard who walked up to me, grabbed me by the shoulder and handed me (a Jew) a book about Jesus (no joke). Unlike Little Richard, Berry had a sparse band, only a drummer, a pianist and himself on guitar. Berry kept scolding the other musicians and he still did a "duck-walk".
