6'3 in monsieur hulot's holiday i believe but by Playtime in 1967 i think he dropped a few cm.

Rob, what would be the equivalent of his height today? Let's assume he reached his full adult height at about 18 years in the mid- to late 1920's.

I posted it before but Tati really does look 6'3" with De Gaulle but I wonder if the latter was really near 6'5" or just a strong 6'4" because I could see maybe an inch and change between them.

It´s not Tati who says he is 1,87. It is the interviewer who says Tati is 1`87. It is in the minute 12:14. Tati doesn´t say another height for him. He just explains how he uses his tall height for the purpose of humour.
He looked taller than 1`87 for me, but it´s true that at that time and in France a 1`87 guy could look very tall.
I haven´t been able to see Tati next to De Gaulle. In a biography about De Gaulle that I read years ago it was said that people called De Gaulle "double metre" because of his great height. I guess he was at least 1,95

Arch and Sam, i have no idea who this guy is... really! But if he REALLY said 187, why should he lie?
And Arch, remember you guessed the infamous GrowTallerGuru as a big 6'3 guy when he really is a measured 186...
Arch Stanton said on 5/Apr/16
Nah, never 187, this guy could look almost 6'4 at times, a 187 guy will never give off that look. This guy looked same range as Curd Jurgens.

I've seen all the films he's directed (there's not many) and I'd say 187 cm is doubtful for him at peak. I couldn't positively shoot down 189 cm or so for him but I still can't quite see him that low.

187cm is surely too low

I understand a bit of french but listening to about 50 min of a clip??? That's too much! Maybe give us the min, lazare! I don't know this guy but would a 187 guy be listed at 6'3??? First Terry then this guy... I'm sure you'd be very "surprised" if you measured some celebrities, Rob!

If he really did claim 187, why is he still listed at 6'3?
if someone who is French can confirm it I'll change.
lazare said on 30/Mar/16
On Radioscopie (1974, video in Youtube) he said 1m87
for me he was between 1m80 and 1m87

He looks to be in the Smits/Sorbo/Bettany category of 6ft3. The 6ft4-5 listings don't surprise me one bit. You can be guessed as that high.
A fraction more, Rob?

Actually I think it's a good time for me to take a break as well...

I was guessing 6'4 region, 193 est but I can appreciate most of his co-stars in the Hulot films were shorter to accentuate his height for the slapstick, so I could buy something closer to 6'3" range in reality..
Sam said on 13/Nov/15
For a Frenchman of his day, I believe it would be the equivalent being a strong 6'6" or even 6'7" guy today in America or Great Britain, I'm sure that's around the size guys start having trouble finding clothes that fit in some places.

"Jacques Tati's height is 6ft 3⅒in (190.754cm)"
Because I'm just too cool to make normal posts. I need to turn every single one into an art exhibition with the fractions and the decimals!
Rob, this time I actually am gonna take a breather and then come back in 2016. I'm sorry if I've caused any irritation to anyone. I've left some worthwhile names on the height request page. Maybe when I return you might have a few of them. They are/were good people just like this dashing gentleman above me. You and Jenny keep up the great work and I will see you soon! Joyeaux Noel!
enjoy yourself, maybe having a break from height at times is wise.

When he was conscripted into th french army in 1940 he was so tall they didnt have a regimental uniform to fit him so he was given a mixture of whatever military uniforms would fit. According to his biography he was arrested by the military gendarmerie because he looked like he was wearing a fake uniform. This tends to support the fact that he was unusually tall for a frenchman, although he was of russian descent the family name being Tatischeff. Excellent actor/director/writer , big fan

Tati older near Jack Nicholson, obviously has lost some height there but clearly a few inches higher than Jack still. Click Here
A better version of the shot with Stan Laurel & Mack Sennett. Click Here
Tati with Sophia Loren again and a possible lift-wearing Dean Martin. Click Here
Opposite Charles De Gaulle, who was 6'5" per a g search. Click Here
There's also a few out there with Marlon Brando but Tati doesn't stand upright in any. I think with an older Laurel or with De Gaulle, there's little doubt of 6'3" for him.

Great addition!! He looked huge in Jour de fête, Mon oncle and Mr Hulot´s holiday. Those three films are superb. Haven´t seen the other three he directed. I have a big respect for him as a filmmaker.
He looked at least 1`90 in those films. He towered over everyone

Thanks for adding, Rob! This guy was huge by the standards of his generation, even though I doubt over 6'3" in reality as he was only a tad taller looking than Anthony Quinn, he is probably the generational equivalent of what would be 6'5"-6'6" today.
Already linked a while ago on the Request page but here's Tati with Quinn and Sophia Loren, he looks maybe more in the 6'2.5" range against weak 6'2" Quinn but is standing looser I think. Click Here
Tati opposite Stan Laurel (5'8" listed): Click Here
