Rob, who would you say was a stronger 5’9” peak out of Bolam and Dennis Waterman?

I'd rewatched the Sweeney with Jenny and felt he could be a solid 5ft 9, maybe he has a tiny edge on Bolam.

He’s taller than he looks, I think because he has a short neck. In When The Boat Comes In he holds his own with the rest of the cast. 5’9 peak seems bang on.

I'd say he was a decent 5ft9 peak. I saw a 2011 episode of New tricks the other day and a 76 year old Bolam looked 3-4 inches shorter than 5ft11 at that time Peter Davison. 5'7.5 ish aged 76 then and around 5'9 peak seems to fit. Probably 5ft7 today.

He did look like Dr.Harold shipman so much! In the 1970s was 5.7 to 5.9 average for men aged 20 to 40? I bet not many women were 5.8 in thoes days.

He left "New Tricks" in 2012, three years before it was finally axed. He never looked above 5'8" when he was younger.

Always gave the impression of a squat little fellow, i'd have guessed maybe 5'8 tops, which is what he probably is now given his advanced years.

i think 5.9 was the average male in the UK in the 1970s,80s and 1990s.He could be 5.8 now though in more recent years.Did anybody see him as Dr. Harold Shipman on a TV drama ?

About that I guess in his younger days. Very good actor, if you ever meet him probably not a good idea to mention The Likely Lads as apparently its the one show in particular he doesn't like being asked about.

If he was was 5ft9 in the 70's, he's going to be a bit less now, isn't he?
We'll get back to that later!
If you were around in the 70's and remember 'The Likely Lads', you'll be familiar with him and his friend, played by Rodney Bewes. One of their girlfriends was played by Bridget Forsyth though I forgot the other one! Not a very thorough testimonial of remembrance, but the programme itself was watchable, passing the time pleasantly enough!
These days he can be seen starring in 'New Tricks' and should you decide to compare him now to how boylike he was in his 'Likely Lads' sitcom, you'll realise just how long he's been in the entertainment business! Yes, A Long Time! So he must be a good inch shorter nowadays, but I am going to knock just three quarters of an inch from his original super-average 5ft9! That's for his fidelity to our TV screens!

yes I think he lost height, but also seems after new tricks to be a bit more out of the limelight now.
