John Inverdale is in Dictionary Corner with Susie Dent this week. It's not the ideal programme for height judgement as a rule, except for Rachel Riley, who stands all the time - but looks taller because of her good figure - so I will go along with 5ft10 for John, as approved by Rob.

He looks WELL short of this listing next to 5'11.5 George Groves on ITV boxing commentary tonight.
5'9 and.change my best guess

Watched him host the World's Strongest Man competition from 1998 through 2005. He was never towered by the strong men who ranged from 5'9" to 6'7". 5'10" or slightly less seems right for his peak height (may have lost a bit now that he's turning 60).

I can't imagine he stood on a box when talking to Redgrave because he clearly didn't when talking with Anthony Joshua who is taller again and towered Inverdale.

Yes I agree. He seems like your sort of average looking kind of guy.

Thanks, You know it's really odd as I was watching him standing with Regrave and Cracknell and a few others and he was consistently looking 6'1. about 3 inches shorter!!! I suspect that he was standing on something now to reduce the height gap on screen. As believe me there was never 6 inches between them on screen! I had thought of him as 5 ft 10/ average sort of height previously, so was surprised to see him lookin 6'1 and thought I'd underestimated him! It's quite possible though he was on a box, as if he's 5'10 it would really get uncomfortable craning up his neck to look at big Steve!
I think sometimes angles or even a small ground difference could have made him seem taller, I think his claim is probably reasonable.
