Only 5 ft 6 yet was treated like a giant in many ways, he really was a boss, everybody in the jazz world seemed to look up to him. I personally think he is a little overrated as a trumpeter, but as a composer and bandleader for the way he steered the art form in the 50s and 60s one of the very best. I love Herbie Hancock's quote of him when asking for playing inspiration, hissing in his raspy voice: "don't play the butter notes" (meaning note choices which are obvious to the audience).

Well he's got a page here, which I moved this link to. I'm sure he could be near 5ft 11, but 6ft barefoot I'm not so convinced he'd be!

Yes it's funny, this guy is considered pretty much a God in the jazz world, highly revered as a huge leading figure. He was very intimidating in demeanour, naturally with a big ego, shows how much a big personality can give a big impression physically too.

bleh, I assumed* (Yes, I'm correcting my typo four months behind schedule).

I'm not sure I'd say as high as 5'7" but 5'4" is considerably off mark I'd say.

I knew Miles wasn't tall, but he assumed he was a wee bit higher than this, like 1m69-1m70.

Yes, finally! A full borne jazz legend. For a slight, short guy he carried himself in an imposing way. Those 5'4" reports are definitely too low, you'll note that Bob Dylan and Bob Marley also get claimed that low.

he didn't appear that low from looking at him, but a few occasions he did get called that low
