American Actor, best remembered for appearing in movies like Deliverance, Hear my Song, Nashville, All the President's Men, Network, Hopscotch, The Big Easy, Silver Streak, Superman, Spring Forward and Toy Story 3. In an LA Times interview at age 59 with the LA Times (22 Dec 1996) he said of his stature, "I'm 5-8 but I used to be 5-9"

Rob, could Beatty receive a downgrade from 5’8”?
Throughout Hopscotch, Walter Matthau’s character keeps emphasising the shortness of Beatty’s character, Myerson. “Hey, Myerson. Say, I thought you were taller. I don’t remember you being this short. How’d you get so short?” “Good morning Mr. Myerson, you short person”. Although Matthau was a strong 6’2”, 5’8” is not so short.

Beatty had about an inch on Ellen Barkin in The Big Easy and Beatty typically looked 5’7” range in most of his films and tv projects. As Ellen Barkin even admitted she was 5’6”, my estimate for Beatty’s peak goes no higher than 5’7.25”. In Hopscotch, Walter Matthau’s character asks Beatty’s character how he got so short, hinting Beatty was not at all a tall man.

In 1977 Oakland Tribuen, in interview mentions:
" actual dimensions are as broad as his professional credentials. At 5 FEET 8 inches, he weighs in at '220 plus' ", sounds like this is what he claimed in his 'peak' days.

Check out the pic of Ned Beatty with a group of people and tell me if he looks 5'8". I'll let your eyes be the judge but I just find it hard to believe everyone around him, including the females, are all coincidentally over 6'. Not to downgrade Ned because he's a great actor and a great guy but the 5'8" is just a bit over the top. I'm now guessing he's 5'6" tops. You decide

I thought listing Ned Beatty at 5'8" was a stretch but 5'9" is definitely surreal. Look at Beatty in Deliverance next to Burt Reynolds and tell me if you actually believe he tips the scales any higher than 5'7". He looks like a short fat guy these days so I'm wondering if he's lost some inches.
