@Rob - Yeah, the 70s I guess. It's very tricky.
I found pictures of Gary with more normal shoes:

Hi Rob!. Any idea of Gary Moore's height based on this pictures?
Sometimes he can seem about 3 inches shorter, but remember these guys heel heights varied a bit and sometimes they had 2.5 range heels on.

@ Rampage Clover - It's only now that I find your comment, so sorry about the delay in replying.
I had a pen-friendship with a DJ called Big George, who was 6ft1. I asked him! I used to phone him up while he was on air with his Greater London Radio heavy rock show. One evening, he started playing a Thin Lizzy song and then suddenly he ran out of time and that is when I started writing to him. He played it in its entirety the following week, but I can't remember which one it was, they had so many great hits!
Phil gets 6ft1.5.
⭐ Big George wrote the theme tune to 'Have I Got News For You' and many others. He died in May 2011 aged just 53.

However tall he was he looked good! Legs for days even with Chucks on.

Actually Sandy you do have a point. Those platforms were insanely big so possibly he was hitting 6ft4-5 zone in those...and that’s probably not even counting the fro!

@ Rampage Clover - I can see him hitting FAR more, what with the huge platforms they wore those days! (The Seventies)
My six-foot friend was never less than 6ft4 (show off!) and often more! He hung around with rock groups and did session drumming with one.
So there you go! 😱

With boots and hair he was probably hitting 6ft3 range...

No Berta, though I totally see where you're coming from, and Phil did have a lot of great Afro hair, he really was a tall lad, and very likeable too!
He was married to the daughter of Leslie Crowther, who adored his son-in-law, feeling understandably depressed and down when he died of alcohol abuse, the poor man, at the beginning of 1986.
His lyrics were wonderful and honest, and you can gain some idea of his feelings by listening to the song, 'Got to Give it Up'.
I followed Thin Lizzy's career since I was a kid!
The truly great Phil Lynott gets 6ft1.5

186-187cm could have been closer...

He's another guy who could have downplayed it a bit.

He wore converse a lot and still looked around 6'2"

He looks a good deal healthier in the above picture.
I was very fond of his group 'Thin Lizzy', the music, the self-penned lyrics. Phil died far too young.
I would guess his height to have been 6ft1 or 2. Remember, those days, the shoes they wore gave them quite some extra inches!
I wasn't going to mention this, but I will. A few days before he died (1986 if I remember rightly), I dreamt that I was walking home my usual route when a car pulled up beside me to break the dreadful news. 🎸🎤🎸🎶

Those platforms probably brought him up to 6ft3 or over

I was thinking he was 6'4'',Midge Ure said he was a giant, just shows you what cowboy boots and a Afro does,

I seriously would have thought 6ft2 at least. But he was very skinny so maybe just gave that illusion. No less than this though.
Editor Rob: I think his hair and thin build could probably make him look taller. Plus, footwear in his day at times may have helped.
