In response to Jason too yes on the Sopranos he dwarfs most of the cast so he seems to me 6ft1 -6ft3 on the show he is a big guy in one episode he weighed 280 in real life he might be less now like 250 Bobby was a little taller than him and alot heavier on the show Bobby was 6ft1 and probably weighed 320 Furio was also tall like 6ft or 6ft1 but was alot leaner probably 170-190 and Johnny Sack was close to Tony too maybe 5ft11 or 6ft and from like 180-215 pounds just my guess my final ansewer is Tony is 6ft

I was surprised to read he was just over 6ft. On the sopranos he looks at least 6ft 4 the way he seems to tower over everybody else. You don't see many other actors in the show who are taller.

I think they did some camera tricks to make James more imposing. Still a big guy none the less. 184-185cm is bang on. Did look 6ft1-6ft2 in Get Shorty though.

i met james gandolfini, who was a really nice, polite guy, down at a bar in NYC in 2006 while I was abroad.
He is 185 cm, possibly 186 or 184 and a bit. I noticed he slouches. But he talked to me for almost 5 minutes- he was a little drunk maybe- and he kept trying to "parrot" my new zealand accent.
Point being, I am 186 cm and honestly I would say he is my height. The only difference is he is much, much larger than me.

There's an episode in the second season where Tony is pulled over by a cop for speeding on the interstate and Tony flashes his drivers license. I think it only says 6'0", but the man has to be taller than that. Looks to be at least 6'1-6'2". At times he can even pass for 6'3"-6'4".

I think 185cm is the perfect listing for James. I used to be a huge sopranos fan, had every season on DVD. I watched it so much I just about had one of those wise-guy italian american accents :) Gone off it a bit now though. Feel so sorry for the guy I mean he would have to be the most typecast guy in history after the sopranos. I bet every time he's at an event or a night club etc. people would just walk up to him like "Heeeyy it's Tony Soprano"! As opposed to saying "Great acting in the sopranos Mr. Gandolfini" lol. Although You seem him talking in the special features and he seems really down to earth and funny.

His obesity and the shortness of the rest of the cast gives off the illusion that he's 6'2 or over. He looks even taller in Season 1, and he was much slimmer back then. I think his frame has a lot to do with it, broad shoulders and the like.

I dont know about him being 5'10" tall...I'm 5'10 1/2 and he seems taller than me.....but then again with the easy availability of elevator shoes...he could easily add 2 to 3 inches...still, he does come across as being at least 6'1"

His height is hard to pin down because he doesn't stand up totally straight a lot of times. He is also quite large which can give the illusion of a taller presence. I think he is between 5'11.5 ft to 6'1 ft. I think he is a solid 6 feet

I saw James Gandolfini In Toy's R Us Yesterday. He is 6' 2" or over. But Everywhere I'm reading it says 6 Ft. Unless he wears lifts in his shoes he is taller then everyone is saying.

The mean height of the cast of the Sopranos is probably 5'6. So that goes a long way to adding to the illusion that Gandolfini is an extremely tall man. He's above average height, no doubt. But I'd gather he's about 6 feet tall.

6'2? Not a chance. Maybe he's on shoe lifts, but he just doesn't seem that big, also I have to believe that the weight of 280 pounds is made up, he looks closer to 320-330 pounds, I'm about 270 and he's just so broad across compared with me.
He's hurrendously overweight, you could fit two normal sized men behind the guy and you wouldn't be able to see them from a head on look!

A standard door is 6'6, I'm 6'4 and my head scrapes the door frame when I'm in my shoes, but James' just appears big because most Italian men, despite what Colton says, are only 5'8 or 5'9 and Gandolfini's most well known for being on the Sopranos and around other Italians.

The below avg guys are mostly older so it might be a generational thing. Most of the guys are between 5'10"- 6'2" and they are southern Italian.

Just to clarify one thing about the door frames in the US. I don't know where you measured it, but even old and cheap doors are 6'8" or 6'9". Also, the head banging thing is not what it seems to be. It's always a weird camera angle so it looks like he's almost to the top of the door frame. I myself am 6'5" and only when I wear boots I come close to banging my head.

I think season 2 and 3 were the best. The last season (6) was off a little, Especially with all the Vito things. I did actaully think last season, Christoher was going to get wacked but It didnt happen. Christopher deserves it when he punched Ben Kingley's girlfreind in the face. My favorit episode is in season 3 when Raplhie kills that stripper and is doing all those "Gladiator" lines. Toney beat the s*** out of Ralpie in that episode.

I am 5'8" and if you think of the height differential between him and James on the show, James cannot be more than 5'10"...maybe 5'11" on a REALLY good day. I also had the chance to see Edie Falco both walking down the street in TImes Square when she was performing in The Sideman and more recently when she stood next to me as I was sitting on a bench on the Columbia campus (they were shooting a Sopranos scene). She is TINY, again adding circumstantial evidence that James is probably no more than 5'10."

If you look at this film with Melanie Griffith and Eric Stoltz (I forget the name - a film about Hasidic Jews) Gandolfini plays an Italian gangster (suprise suprise), and he's a lot thinner and clearly towers above the rest of the cast.
He's such a big friggin sloucher - I think at full height is probably a 6"1. I really think James is about 6ft0in height! Perhaps even 5ft11.5 and then Afflec smth between 6'1'' and 6'1.5''! I think a lot agree wit me, cuz there`s no sence to overestimate and(which is much supidly and rediculous) overclaim your own height, like Afflec did!

He looks not that much shorter than Affleck but then again, he didn't look that much taller (he was slouching) when next to Steve Buscemi in The Sopranos.
