How is it that his girlfriend who is listed 5-9, 5-10 or 5-11 everywhere magically becomes 5-7? Why because even if she was 5-8 that'd put him at 5-11.75. She's probably 5-8 and he's 5-11 minimum and there's a good chance that he's 5-11.75.

I have no idea how tall his girlfriend is, but by looking at those pictures I would guess her to be about 5'7, maybe a tad less. Either way, I think McConaughey about what he's listed at here. He did look 2-3 inches under 6'1 Bradley Cooper in Failure to Launch and as Viper said, he was definitely shorter than 5'10.5-5'11 Clinton Portis on that video on NFL.com a few years ago.

He's got a long torso with short arms and legs. I think that contributes to the illusion of him being shorter than he is.

Sorry Dulce but I can not believe that. If you try to be funny like Letterman did with SLy when calling him "tiny" thats Ok. But Matthew is a bit over average and looks it. Like I already mentioned before: except for his arms. The are somewhat short for a guy of his size.

speaking for myself, it seems that whatever height a celeb looks like to me on TV, they are really 1-2 inches under that. I remember thinking Brad Pitt looked 6' to me, but if you go to his page he is listed at 5'11 and most think he is around 5'10.5. I thought the same thing about Matthew MCC. Willis I thought was 6'1, turns out he is 5'11 and change; same thing for DiCaprio and Timberlake.

keep in mind Richard that most people look taller on screen. someone who appears 6' onscreen is most likely 5'10-5'11 or so. I think 5'10.5 is correct for MM.

He has good posture and basically towered over everyone including 5'4 Renee Zellwegger. He's an above-average dude. He also looked this height in Dazed and Confused. 5'9-10 is too low for him. 511'-6' is more his range.

Now it is 2 inches off his eyebrows. Anyway, I just find some of the 5'9 stuff a bit difficult to buy, because 5'9 guys tend to look little on the screen and I don't think McConaughey ever looks little.

I don't think everyone is 5'9, but I think alot of them are in that range (average) and they don't want that so they add a few inches or so! A good rule of thumb is so subtract 0.5"-1" from whatever Glenn thought someone's height was. He though 5'11, so that means 5'10-5'10.5 for McConaughey.

This is an interesting one. I walked straight past him a few years ago when he was in London for the Premier of Sahara. I had no idea who he was because I don't watch television. It was late at night and he was going to the paki shop on Kensington high Street, with that other useless female actress 'Penelope Cruz' (You know that actress with the face that 'you just want to smash'). I recognized Penelope straight away because she was checking me out. And I do remember the man next to her being somewhat 'Tall'. Now I 5"8.5 barefoot. So, with Nike trainers on, I hover around the 5'9 mark. Not much more than that though. I do recall him being taller than me by at least an inch, perhaps more. He was a 'tall guy' as I like to put it. But the thing is, I didn't see what shoes he was wearing. He may have been wearing some limited edition 'Spice Girls' platform-moonboots (it was dark, I couldn't see, and not only that, I was too busy trying to count his 15-pack, beneath his ridiculous looking tropical coloured shirt. I would say 5" 10' barefoot, standing like a soldier, not slouching forward to enhance the ripples of his 15-pack.

He looked 4 inches taller than her. His eyes weren't quite at the top of her head. Since she is 5'6 I would give him 5'10-5'10.5 but not more or less.

I'd be astounded if he measured more than 5'10" in bare feet, maybe even 0.5" less. He's almost eyeball to eyeball with my brother, who's 5'10" (in the morning). I'm 6'0.5" and McConaughey looks up to me. In college he didn't wear lifts or have big hair and his true height was more obvious than it now appears in photos. That bathrobe inscription is just more Hollywood BS. Or maybe that's his enhanced height in shoes and with extra mousse on his hair.

i don't think anyone is buying that 5'11-3/4" thing anymore. He was a half inch to an inch shorter than Clinton Portis who was a measured 5'10-7/8". It could be argualbe if he is closer to 5'10 or 5'11. One thing is for sure though, he isn't pushing 6'.

I think Rob's estimate is correct. It's been my experience that usually when someone is very precise with their height when rounding up would make more sense, like say 5'11-3/4", they are an inch less. overcompensation.

His height does seem to differ in the films I have seen him in. In an early film he did - 'Lone Star' he looked average in height. The current stated height of 5'10" + 3/4 could be possible BUT 5'9"+1/2 is my guess.

in we are marshal he realy didnt force posture, also his shoes can be seen and he dosnt look under 5'11 ,he looks 5'10ish with awful posture ,i have seen pics were he looks 13 cm taller than bullock so aleast 6 ft ,and other pics were he looks the 182 mark like with 185 hauser ,and then he looks 5'10.25 near edwards but he has converse so i think matthew is aleast 179 and max 181 so the height above seems right . he reaches 182 with small lifts and 183 184 with big lifts

he's definitely a lift wearer. If i'm not mistaken he was listed at 5'11.5 when the site first started out. I think robs listing as of now is pretty accurate give or take a quarter inch.

Rob you need to downgrade him three qtrs of an inch. With Portis, Armstrong and Fox he just looks no taller than 5'10 (but also no shorter I might add).

I've never seen a 6' Matthew McConaughey. I'm not a type who like downgrading the other. But I have to say that Rob is very generous to give him 5'11. He has a good body, good posture and good lifts to make him look taller.

Maybe I exagerated and they wera all on steps in the first pic, but in the second pic he looks noticably taller than Armstrong (more than an inch), he should have been using boots, otherwise he can't be just 5'10.75.

Gyllenhaal can't be as tall as 6', more like 5'10.5 if he's slouching. Lance Armstrong sure looks considerably much shorter than 5'9.75 there (like 5'9), yet he looks in the 177 cms height next to Glenn. McConaughey can't have only an inch on Armstrong if he is 5'10.75. Walked by me on the street in London a little while back. I'm 5'10" (aprox 5'11" with shoes). He was quite a bit shorter than me - which surprised me - but his voice was unmistakeable (was on the phone). Would say 5'8"-9" is probably more like it.

Matthew was in my hometown of Huntington West Virginia for the premiere of We Are Marshall, and I saw the man face to face. I am 5'7, he is maybe one inch taller than me. Don't think he had on lifts though. I'd say he's 5'8.5 tops.

Couchscout hasnt updated their database yet. Why couchscout and ourlads conflict sometimes on players I dont know. I do know a couple of specific players heights on ourlads is flat out wrong though, and right on couchscout. Ive also noticed a couple of players heights barely fluncutuating too, not sure If they remeasure annually.

I believe that the Combine heights, include shoes. That's the only way I (6') could stand taller than Jason Avant (Michigan) who measured out at 6'1. I've played basketball against him and he is easily an inch shorter than me.

I was listening to a radio show this morning and they had a segment on celebrity encounters and geeking out in front of them. Anyway, this girl called in and said that Matthew walked into her store and he helped him around...she "geekiness" came in when she expressed to him how short he was, she said she was 6 ft. and asked that she asked him if he was about 5'9". Girl went on to say that Matthew responded, and was very adamant, that he was 5'9.5".

My boss just saw him out this weekend in Austin and stood next to him at the bar while ordering drinks. He said he was surprised to see that M.M. is about 5'9.5" - 5'10" and no more. He did mention that he was very cool and laid-back!

I think the upgrade in Matthew's height is accurate. He does look closer to 6 foot. The fact that he monogrammed his bathrobe with 5'11 3/4" leads me to believe its a morning height. That being said, a daytime height of 5'11.5" is very feasible.

So I asked HIM how tall Mr. McConaughey is and he said; "About 6 foot". My friend is ~ 5'10". This IS second hand of course, and perhaps I'll run into Matthew personally some evening in a 6th Street Pub? :-)

Editor Rob if you are using your early morning height to compare your own height against somebody else, it might not be accurate. Say on average people get measured from 1-2pm, then you could use your own height at that time of day as the 'best measure' to compare against others.
I have a 'theory' that with some people, they are unaware of their height being taller earlier in the morning. So, they may have measured themselves say at 5ft 3 and a half. Then they think 'bummer' and the thought on their mind 'I'll measure myself tomorrow, so get up early and measure themselves and wow they're 5ft 4!
