Naaaah, Murray looks close enough to his billed height of 6'3. The most I'd take of is half an inch. That would make Murray 6'2.5". Now Nadal is definately 6 feet tall. Nothing more. I remember him changing his shoes during Wimbledon. While being filmed we saw him putting insoles in his shoes. Those insoles are about a half inch in thickness.

Bongo, Roddick has flat trainers and Federer has dress shoes on.
Ian said on 8/Sep/08
Federer is smaller than andy murray and taller than nadal if that helps. Murray is about 6ft2 and Nadal looks to be around 6ft tall as murray had a couple of inches on him.

Im sure they upgraded Nadal's height because hes become more successful. They do it all the time in sports. Especially in college.

I would've believed it if they had Nadal listed at 6'0. But now that they've increased his height to 6'1, I'm feeling doubtful. Here a picture of Nadal and Federer standing side-by-side after this years French Open 2008 match. It's quite obvious that Federer has more than an inch on Nadal. Click Here

Fed is one of the few players who are listed correctly.
said on 30/Aug/08
OK..what gets to me is the fact that Hewitt is listed as 5'11. Federer has 3 to 3.5 inches on Hewitt in the snap below. And Roddick who's listed as 6'2, looks about the same height as federer who's 6'1. I can see that Roddick's eye level is about an inch above Federer's, but since federer has a more longer head, it seems he's neck in neck with Roddick. Kinda makes up for that 1-inch loss. Click Here

And again, either Federer is being generous and stating his height as 6'1 (when he's more), or all other players, including Pete Sampras in this pic, are lying about their heights. As seen below, Federer has a good inch on Sampras, who also claims 6'1.Click Here

Hmm I wonder...is Beckham really the 5'11.5" he's listed at, after looking at this photo of him and Federer side by side? If he is, Federer looks more like a 6'2.5" guy.Click Here

Nah Nadal is still 6'0. He was clearly 1inch shorter than Federer during Wimbledon and at least 2inch shorter than Djokovic in masters series. Now if Nadal uses insoles...
Jake said on 1/Aug/08
I stand unmoved on my view. During a brief time-out for break, Nadal was clearly being filmed while adjusting the insoles in his shoes. Like I said, Nadal is anywhere from 6 to 6'0.5" feet tall. Those insoles are just thick enough to close the height gap between him and Federer, which is why he seems as tall as Federer most of the time.
@ace1: Dude, Roddick is clearly an inch taller than Federer. He's 6'2.
ace1 said on 14/Jul/08
nadal sometimes looked taller during wimbledon than federer
federer is 6'1 without shoes, nadal 184 i think
fed is 1.85 max
nadal is 1.84
roddick is 184.5 without shoes
djokovic is 1.87 max
Jake said on 7/Jul/08
Yesterday's match was by far the BEST showdown between Nadal and Fed. I would say Nadal is 6'0 1/2 while Federer is 6'1. Only cuz I've seen Nadal use insoles in his shoes, while Federer doesn't. Those insoles are just thick enough to close the gap between the 2 of em. That'z why the height difference between them seems non-existent.

Nadal is probably 1.84 barefoot
Federer is 1.85-186 he's taller than the other players who are 1.85
Roddick is sometimes 1.85 with wrong shoes, sometimes 1.88 and taller than other 6'2 players

@ Hans: Definately agreeable dude. Federer is a solid 6'1. Nadal is probably around 6'0.5! Click Here
You can see Federer's got about half an inch on Nadal. And neither seems to be bent or tilted in this photo, which is why I chose this particular pic.

Those pictures from "anonymous" prove that Federer is 6'1 SOLID! Hewitt is 5'10 barefoot, probably 5'11 with shoes. He has short limbs to be considered 5'11 which is an inch less than 6 feet. Roger looks like he's got a good 3 inches on him, not mention his head size...HUGE!

i met james blake and to me he looks 5'11, at MOST 6'0. but not the 6'1 he's billed at. i've seen pictures of these two together and federer looks to be taller by an inch. i'll say that federer is 6'0.5.

Other Anonymous, you're overlooking that Lleyton Hewitt is overlisted by perhaps almost 2 inches. He always looks 5'9.5 - 5'10 to me. That puts Fed to me at not quite 6'1. 184-185 to my eye.

You are forgetting one thing...Courier is 6ft not 6'1. Nadal is the same height as Courier..a hard 6ft..federer is about 5'11.5..I know some of you are going to be shocked at this, but its true.
OutBenchThis said on 20/Jan/08
Rubbish internet_hey! IF you took notice of the various angles available you would have seen Federer at equal height to Courier at some points aswell during the post match. The only time Federer looked taller was from the above angle shot. It's well known that Courier has one of the worst postures around so I still stand by my 184 cm observation. Ofcourse none of us have satisfactory evidence to suggest otherwise, unless I or another poster on here was photographed measuring a celebrity in the morning, midday and late night and was able to take an average from that, which is unlikely to happen, the next best thing is to rely on photographic evidence (usually from Glenn) and his or anothers anecdotal evidence and specualte from there. I say 184 cm, you say 186 cm.
internet_hey said on 19/Jan/08
Federer just won his match against Janko Tipsarevic in a match that went for over 4 hours. In the postmatch interview with Jim Courier,Federer is clearly taller than Courier by at least 0.5" and up to a full 1" when he straightened up. Rob's listing of 186cm is accurate, you guys have no solid evidence that Federer is shorter than that.
OutBenchThis said on 18/Jan/08
Yeah Rob, it was post match. That's a good point Rob you raise regarding intensive exercise and its effects on an some individuals average lowest height. I took that into consideration with my estimate of 184 cm.
Mikez said on 17/Jan/08

I mean, look at Federer with 5'8 Glenn,he is at least 4 1/2 inches taller and Roddick is taller than Federer. Mike does have a point. A lean guy like Roddick, with his proportions could easily pass off as 6-2 on tv If he was just 6-0.
mike said on 1/Aug/07
Hi Lurker... its not that the tennis players lie about their height, but ATP just doesnt put any research into their "Stats". I think they dont even measure them, or if they do its just in shoes. I agree Roddick looks 6'1 to 6'2..thats why cameras and TV can be deceiving..it was only when I saw him up close (in feb of this year) that I knew he was a bit shorter. Tv can play tricks. Its understandable because people think im 6'1 to 6'2 (no one has ever guessed that im 6'0). There is alot of misconceptions out there...people here "6" and they think big deal... but a true 6 footer (without shoes) will actually look reasonably tall.

" 6'3'' JK: How the heck do you know if he is on his tiptoes?" Just looked at the picture, it's obvious. When comparing Federer and Sampras, I honestly don't believe Pete was ever 6'1, maybe in shoes, so Federer has to appear always taller than him.
Adam, I believe that "rumour", it shouldn't be actually difficult to judge these two guys, because they're playing a lot against eachother nowadays. I'm starting to have a strange feelings that I'm the only one who thinks Nadal is taller by 1 cm (or at least the same). It really appears that way to me. Again i feel that the LTA measure players in tennis shoes and if you look at Roddick's footwear they are bigger and more chunky than the other players especially Federer who wears a more elegant shoe. Check out Andy's Babolat shoes i bet they give him a good inch and a half maybe more.
Mike said on 13/Jul/07
You know the funny thing about height is that almost 95% of people think Im taller than what I really am (I get 6'1 + most of the time, sometimes even 6'2), so I can easily see how people confuse guys like Roddick and Federer as 6'2. Almost no one thinks im 6'0 and no one ever thinks im less. Just saying.
Mike said on 13/Jul/07
I should also note I am exactly 6'0.25 without shoes (I have no reason to lie) and my dad even said I was a tiny bit taller than Roddick but gave him 6'0. I felt the same as him. I knew instantly when I saw him practicing on a court before I went right up to him that he wasnt going to be 6'2 , even though I thought on TV he appears taller.
Mike said on 13/Jul/07
To Glen: Im not convinced thats a 5' difference in that pic. That hat obscures the top of his head as well. I will say that I have never seen RF in person, but I have met Andy Roddick in person and can verify (as well as someone else with me who saw) that he is 6'0 even. So if all the stats say he is taller than nadal and federer, someone must be lying. Federer could be 6'1, but that means hes taller than Roddick.

How could you recognize the different inches between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick or Rafael Nadal. I'm a fan of tennis; I met them all; their height are the same - 6'1. No way, Roger's height is similar to mine (6'3 as somebody say).
Thank Rob for a nice pic Ivo Karlovic vs Arnaud Clément. But I don't understand;as my feeling, I don't see that this crazy stickleback is shortest(
I talk about Arnauld,he's very unstable...unbelievable nice and unbelievable aggressive, too); I think, he's still a bit taller than his buddy Sébastien Grosjean. I also met another huge player, his name is Alexander Popp. I really wonder "Is Ivo actually the tallest player?"
Rick said on 12/Jul/07
Remenber I put a lot of pics where we can saw Federer is exactly the same height of Venus Williams. He's around 185 cms ( not more). Nadal looks 184 cms for me.
Leung said on 11/Jul/07
My observation is that Federer is about 3cm taller than Nadal.
Federer and Roddick are very similar in height
MD said on 11/Jul/07
Nadal is significantly more than just 1 cm shorter than Federer
Tex89 said on 11/Jul/07
The real heights(for me) are:
Federer: 186 cm (check his official site)
Nadal: 185 cm
Roddick: 187-188(i'd like to know...)
Leung said on 10/Jul/07
I think Federer could be taller than 6’1”. Prior to his Wimbledon final he hung out with Goran Ivanisevic for warm up session. Next to 6’4” Ivanisevic he only looked about 2” shorter.
Next to big 6’4” players like Marat Safin and Mark Philippousis, Federer does not look much shorter. I think he looks 6’1.5” at least.

Federer looks taller than 6'1", BBC showed highlights from his 2001 win against Sampras last week, and Roger had atleast 1 inch on Sampras when they stood side by side. He also looked like he had an inch on Nadal, and on Saturday when he was interviewed with Pierce Brosnan, who seems atleast 6'1.5, he looked to be taller than him. He looks around the 6'2" mark.
MD said on 9/Jul/07
No, Federer has always looked like one of the only few in the sport billed at the correct height. It's really crazy because a bunch of the top players are also billed at 6'0" and 6'1", but they all look different in height. lol
Hewitt, though, isn't anything over 5'10", and that's being generous.
glenn said on 9/Jul/07
what about my photo mike?
mike said on 9/Jul/07
I cant believe Federer is 6'1 , he doesnt come across as a guy that tall...im beginning to think in tennis they measure in shoes after seeing some of them in person and they appear shorter than you think. Federer = 5'11.5.
Leung said on 5/Jul/07
Hewitt is about 5'10.5" which is short compared most of the top tennis professionals. Hewitt is taller than expected when you see him in person.
said on 4/Jul/07
Hewitt looks like a 5'10, even though some sites have him listed as 5'11. In this picture, he's standing next to 6'1 Federer. That doesn't look like the so called "2 inch" difference, more like 3 to 3 and a half!

Yes Rob, you're right, I thought about that sooner he could deserve his own place here... I remember Davis Cup final 2005 - Croatian team at opening ceremony standing next to eachother: Ljubicic (6'4''), Ancic (6'5''), Karlovic (6'10''), Ivanisevic (6'4''). Even there he looked huge.
MD said on 5/Jun/07
Federer is still a full inch taller than Nadal, as shown by the recent photos of him and Nadal. It's much more than just 1 cm.
Anonymous said on 5/Jun/07
Nadal has grown quite a bit in the last few years. If you recall he was listed at 5'11'' four years ago, but has truly grown to be 6'1''. In fact though, Weekly, Federer is about 1cm taller than Nadal. Nadal is just more muscular.
weekly said on 20/May/07
Today in Hamburg when shaking hands - Nadal and Federer looked the same height, maybe Nadal 1 cm taller.
Anonymous said on 10/May/07
I think he's 186. He always looks a bit taller than Nadal.
said on 26/Apr/07
I saw Nadal the other day on TV interviewed by ex tennis player Alex Corretja. Corretja was listed 1`80. Nadal looked clearly taller, about five cm.
Nadal and Federer are very similar in height. And they are both incredible players, the two best by far nowadays. And Roger the best, that´s clear, except when they play on clay
glenn said on 25/Apr/07
yes,6-1.looks taller to me in the pic due to the pose.
TheJerk said on 24/Apr/07
Yes, quite true dmeyer. Is 6-1 fair Glenn?
dmeyer said on 22/Apr/07
he is ugly in that pic
MD said on 22/Apr/07
The announcers had kept remarking that Nadal had grown. Perhaps, he did, but it's obvious who is the real 6'1".
Antron said on 21/Apr/07
Nadal had always been listed at an even 6' until recently. 6' would be pretty close to accurate based on pictures. Maybe 5'11.5"
said on 18/Mar/07
Nadal, now, is listed at 6'1" (185cm) just like Federer, but it's quite clear that Roger is the true 6'1". It's rare you see an honest height listed in sports, but it looks like Roger is one of those few.
(all pictures from later last year)
Sam said on 17/Mar/07
Do someone knows how height is Nadal? (sorry for my english i'm french canadien)
Mike said on 17/Mar/07
I just realised thats Glenn in the actually pic up there...my bad... so he did go up to Federer obviously (sorry for overlooking that)... but a couple points.... you cant see where federers head ends because of the cap, but it does not look like a 5 inch difference at all. And its harder to judge someones height the greater the gap is (ie for Glenn to differentiate between 6ft and 6ft 1 at 5'8).
Mike said on 17/Mar/07
Guys, they just quote the heights in shoes.. it happens all the time in sports. Trust me, people all the time think im 6ft 1 or 2 and im 6ft. Its not a matter of agreeing with Glenn or not... the ONLY way to verify is to see them in person. I saw Roddick in person, but I can only say what i think about federer since i didnt actually go up to him, but look at the pics and on TV, comparing to a 6ft Roddick, they are the same height in all of them.
Pop said on 16/Mar/07
I agree with Glenn that Federer is 6'1''.
Mike said on 16/Mar/07
I met the guy in person at the Aus open. He was standing 1 foot away signing autographs. There is no way he is 6'1. I am 6ft without shoes and we were the exact same height and the person with me said so also. He looks alot shorter in person, but heavier also.
Viper said on 15/Mar/07
I cant see Roddick below 6-1.
Leung said on 14/Mar/07
Roddick is well over 6', he's closer to 6'2"
said on 13/Mar/07
Roddick is 6ft. I had an onlooker certify this as I stood right next to him at the Aus Open. We were exactly the same and Im 6ft and 1/4 without shoes. Given Federer and Roddick are the same height, thus Federer is also 6ft (183 cm).
[Editor Rob: roddick is in converse trainer vs shoe. I guarantee he's giving up 1/2 inch in footwear disadvantage to fererer there]

That whole Kooyong pic is horribly angled obviously or Tommy Haas is like 5'11". Wow you gusy seriously.

Thierry Henry looks a legit 6'2'' to me
Jason said on 6/Feb/07
Thierry Henry is also listed at 187cm, probably his more accurate height.
said on 6/Feb/07
Here is a pic from the press conference:
The angle sucks, but its quite obvious Woods is smaller than Henry and Federer.
Stevie G said on 6/Feb/07
I saw Thierry Henry and Federer standing side by side and they were pretty much the same height. Henry has always been listed as 188 cm and i think its pretty accurate in relation to other soccer players. Tiger Woods was also there, and he was clearly shorter than Henry and Federer. So if Federer is 185 then Woods is 180. My guess is Woods is about 183 and Federer is about 188.
stAs said on 29/Jan/07
I think 185 is his very late evening height. more looks like 186-187.
derbi said on 19/Jan/07
why do you call him federar instead of federer above?
[Editor Rob: a few misspellings might be strategicically placed here and there.]
Anonymous said on 12/Jan/07
Yeah, that pic is screwy because Federer also looks the same height as Ljubicic, who is 6'4". So Federer is either on his toes, or there is something up there. Roddick is standing next to Haas, who is 6'2", and Roddick looks taller.
But for some reason I still think that Federer is maybe 6'1.5". They had him listed as 6'2" on ATPtennis.com for a while. Who knows.
weekly said on 11/Jan/07
Gramps: No way, Federer is not taller than Roddick, there must be some optical (dis)illusion. Perhaps he's standing a little closer to camera. But great pic anyway!
aerotive said on 27/Dec/06
Saw him at the US Open earlier this year. I'd say 6ft 1 is right on the money.
Roddick I think is a bit less than generally reported, as is Sharapova.
rick said on 14/Dec/06
Fed must had an advantage of 1 or 2 cms with his shoes this day !
In my pics they had both tennis shoes. Again Federer is not more 185cms.
said on 12/Dec/06Click Here
Strange, because Fed was about the same height as Nadal earlier in the year. Now he looks much taller. Has he grown? Because atptennis.com did list him at 6'2" for a while.
rick said on 11/Dec/06
One inch taller than Nadal ? No ! An half inch maybe. Nadal is like 6'0.5".
Anonymous said on 11/Dec/06
Federer was listed as 6'2" for a while, but they changed it back to 6'1". He's half an inch to an inch taller than Nadal, and Nadal is listed as 6'1", so something is up.
Juraj said on 14/Nov/06
I think he's around 6'1.5, slightly taller than Nadal who's matured to 6'1. I've seen both of them beside each other many times. Heck, they always meet in tennis finals!
Glenn said on 2/Oct/06
I had two 6-1.5 friends that I thought were 6-3.in fact one lied and said 6-3.I fell for it back in the day.
Viper652 said on 2/Oct/06
A lot of people see 6-1 guys as 6-3, though Roger looks shorter tahn 6-1 at times for some reason.
Marc said on 1/Oct/06
I thought he was 6'3", but ok.

What?Federer is more than 6'3''?No way he is surly 185cm or max 186cm(6'1.25)..absolutely no more.In this pic with 6'5'' marat safin Click Here

I am 5'9 and i met federe. he is at least 6' 3'' and also larger than he looks on tv.
Glenn said on 26/Sep/06
If was arm to arm with him here,I wouldnt look as short.
Gotxo said on 25/Sep/06
Jason his official listing in cm is 186cm as Rob list him here.
I suppose he's quite a bit deceiving as he doesn't look as tall as he really is.
Viper652 said on 25/Sep/06
I can see why people are surprised that he is 6-1. Because he gives off a 5-10 impression on the tennis court for some odd reason.
Jason said on 25/Sep/06
I know Federer is taller than he for some reason seems but I don't think he's over 185. What's his official listing in cm?
MD said on 24/Sep/06
Nadal has grown.
ralph said on 24/Sep/06
Its curious. Rafael Nadal website gives him 182 cms. But when I see him beside federer he always looks one inch taller. I mean, maybe that was his height three years ago, but he has grown a couple of inches since that, that website has to be updated.
sf said on 24/Sep/06
Hey, you don't have to give Nadal a couple of years. He's got a winning record against Federer. That is, he's beaten Federer, more times than Federer has beaten him. Still, Federer is just an absolutely amazing player. Grand slam tournaments are getting boring cause you always know Federer is gonna be in the finals and win! He's amazing.
Cantstop25 said on 24/Sep/06
wow, taller then I expected
Zach said on 23/Sep/06
Ha ha Rob, give Nadal a couple of years ;)
Glenn said on 23/Sep/06

He does look marginally over 6'1".
Korben said on 23/Sep/06
I walked next to him when he was in Melbourne for the Aussie Open in 2005. Im about 6'4 and I was supried how tall he was, I have bad posture but hes easily in the 186-188 range (in pics with andy roddick there really dosetnt seem to be much of a difference)
aw said on 23/Sep/06
look at Glenn, he is doing his best military posture.
