I met Roger here in Melbourne Australia in 2009. I have been measured flatfoot in hospitals several times and am never under 184cms. Roger was noticeably taller than me. He is definately taller than the 185cms he is always listed at. he is no shorter than the 186cms he is given here. I question whether he is actually 187cms, which is edging close to 6'2. I have been looking at the Tennis bios, and it seems they never update the heights and weight after the player is about 18, and I am guessing the height is self-reported as Lleyton Hewitt is in no way 180cms. Funnily I saw 6'6 (possibly taller now) juan Martin del Potro still listed as 82kgs on the Aus Open Website. He has been updated to a more realistic 97kgs on the ATP site.

Thanks John. Commentators kept saying (during Australian Open 2013 match), he is a small 5f11 man. But didn't look 5f11 at all. He also has a long body and short legs. I agree he is most likely 177-178cm.
John said on 15/Jan/13
Sak, 5'9.5 I think

How tall is Lleyton Hewitt?
John said on 13/Jan/13
Agree to disagree then. I've seen them together numerous times and they always look just like in that clip when close together.
Balrog said on 12/Jan/13
John I saw the clip and it isn't the best because both are carrying the trophies so they aren't standing at his best posture. Well Federer is legit 6'1'' man to me (185.4) and I'll put Nadal at 6'0'' (182.9).
John said on 12/Jan/13
Balrog, look. You can't deny this. They're standing right next to each other, still and flat both in tennis shoes of presumably equal height.

7:31-7:38...perfect to tell height. Nadal's shoulder height is actually higher.

Fed is taller but marginally so, looks only 1 cm there. I think Fed may be 185.

John I'm going to do some research and post some pics. I've seen Federer and Nadal for a long time and I'm sure Roger has an inch on him.
John said on 11/Jan/13

I disagree, look at Wimby 08 when they stand right next to each other @ trophy presentation, they look VERY close in height.
SAK said on 10/Jan/13
@Balrog. Yeah I wasn't too sure about Gasquet. So what would be your estimate for him?
SAK said on 10/Jan/13
Thanks John.

Many of the male Tennis players on ATP website are listed correctly or near to there height. Other sports seem to be out 1-2" at times.
Balrog said on 9/Jan/13
Nadal is more 183 than 184. Scroll down and look him next to Djokovic and Ibrahimovic. Also Federer always looks taller than him, more than just half inch.
John said on 6/Jan/13
SAK, agreed with all, but Nadal is really more 184. No way there's an inch or more between him and Fed. Fed has a taller looking body with longer limbs and more slender appearing, but when they stand close together they are very similar in height.
Balrog said on 6/Jan/13
Djokovic: 187 cm
Federer: 185 cm
Murray: 189 cm
Nadal: 183 cm
Ferrer: 173 cm
Berdych: 195 cm
Del Potro: 199 cm
Tsonga: 188 cm
Tipsarevic: 179 cm
Gasquet: 183 cm

I'll agree in many players with you SAK. Btw I met Juan Martin Del Potro here in Argentina and he's a little over 6'6'', because I'm over 6'1'' myself and he has 5in over me. Juan Martin is really, really tall, because I'm a tall guy in my country and I felt quite average next to him.

Ferrer is 5'8'' and pretty short for a tennis player, Djokovic is just under 6'2'', compare with legit 6'2'' guys like Tsonga or Roddick. Federer is legit 6'1'' and has always listed at that height. Gasquet is not 6'1'', look at him next to Federer.

Current top 10:
Djokovic: 188cm
Federer: 186cm
Murray: 189cm
Nadal: 183cm
Ferrer: 175cm
Berdych: 196cm
DelPo: 198cm
Tsonga: 188cm
Tipsarevic: 179cm
Gasquet: 185cm

The average height for this top10 is 186.7cm(6f1.5).
Balrog said on 5/Jan/13
A legit 6'1'' man.
John said on 5/Jan/13
Jake, agree for the most part, good list.

I'd put the top 4 like this, if I put a range it means I can't tell past that:

Fed: 185-186

Nadal: 184

Djokovic: 187-188

Murray: 189
Balrog said on 5/Jan/13
I really can't see Nadal over 6 feet. Federer legit 6'1''. Djokovic 6'1.5'' .
Silent d said on 4/Jan/13
186cm. Sharapova tends to lower her height next to guys.
ryan said on 3/Jan/13
Gasquet is 5-11.5 Standing next to federer he is at least an inch and a half shorter.
ryan said on 31/Dec/12
Saw nadal practice at WTF, as I live in Somerset I went to watch his match last year. Believe he played Fish. I was 3 rows back from his chair, and I can tell you that he is not that imposing. FIsh is quite a bit broader than he is and a couple inches taller. I'd say 6 feet even is a good guess.
John said on 27/Dec/12

What do you think Djokovic is? 6'1.5?
balrog said on 3/Dec/12
John. Djokovic is not a solid 6'2'' guy compare to Tsonga and Roddick. Nole is more 187 than 188 and Nadal looks 182-183 next to him and Zlatan. If Nadal is 184 then Ibrahimovic is over 6'5''.
John said on 2/Dec/12
Balrog, Nadal is 184 and Djokovic is 188. Difference between them is clearly at about 4 cm.
Balrog said on 1/Dec/12
Terrible pic to compare. Look at this.

Djokovic around 2'' taller than Nadal. Novak is 187-188 and Nadal is 182-183.

Nadal was listed 6'0'' before become famous.
argentino said on 13/Nov/12
you are wrong when you say that Nadal is only 182 or 184, look at this picture of Nadal and Djokovic together, they are the same height, but we all know that Djokovic is a little taller so I would say that Nadal is 185 cm

Federer: 6'1''
Djokovic: 6'1.75''
Murray: 6'2.5''
Nadal: ¿?

Not sure on Nadal, because he's listed 6'1'' but he's clearly shorter than Federer by an inch and Djokovic has two inches on him easily, I mean, I can't see Rafa over 6 foot. Look at him next to swede player Zlatan Ibrahimovic who is around 6'5'': Click Here

Nadal looks under 6 feet next to him and Ibra is not even a full 6'5''. The spaniard is shorter than I expected.
Fred said on 3/Oct/12
Sharapova is not a true 6'2'', but rather 6'1'' I believe. That is why Federer looks the same height as Sharapova.
Larc-186.7cm-188.6cm said on 29/Sep/12
How can this guy be 6'1.25 when he always looks around the same height (or even taller sometimes) than 6'2 Sharapova. Something's wrong here Rob.
Shaun said on 27/Sep/12
Rob how tall do you think Tevez is? I'd guess 5'7" ish possibly 169 cm range. Pretty sure he's not 5 ft 8 as listed he looks short and squat don't you think?
[Editor Rob: yes more 5ft 6-7 range than 8]
Shaun said on 27/Sep/12
Del Potro has near a foot on Tevez Click Here Del Portro's hair looks just like Huey Lewis's in the 80s, same face shape too!!

John said on 22/Sep/12
Lol he's 6'1. Like I said look at him in person. 5'11.5 is a joke.
Jessica said on 17/Sep/12
He's 5'11.5 barefoot or 6 feet at best. next to Tim Hemann who is 6'1 he looked inch and half shorter, next to Del Potro who is 6'6 he looks a least 6 inches shorter so I say 6 feet.
avi said on 12/Sep/12
he is 6'1. i don't think he is over this. he appears 4.5 to 5 inches shorter than Del Potro almost everytime. He is 1 inch shorter than Andy Murray so Andy is 6'2 maybe 6'2.3 at best. Nadal is probably just 6'0 and Djokovic is 6'2 flat. Soderling is a strong 6'3.
John said on 12/Sep/12
Nope, he's 6'1 lol. Some of you guys need to see them in person. :)
Maryla said on 8/Sep/12
I think federer is only 6'0 flat he looks six inches shorter than Juan martin Del Porto who is 6'6. Andy Murray who is 6'3 in a photograph with his Olympic medals looked three inches taller even slouching, federer is 6'0
John said on 2/Sep/12
Definitely more than 6' flat. Seen him many times and is a solid 6'1. Afternoon/night height is 185-186 no doubt about it.

I think the heights are:

Murray: 190
Djokovic: 188
Federer: 186
Nadal: 184

The 6ft 2.5 listing at the Olympics was inaccurate information or Roger was wearing very big heels when he was measured. I think Editor rob you should downRoger Federer to 6'0.5 considering that my Murray is 6'2 and has 1.5 inches on him
Hazzer said on 21/Aug/12
Are you kidding me 188cm I am 6ft with my shoes on and was eye to eye when I met him at the london olympics

Jessica said on 19/Aug/12
It is possible that the 186cm is taken in shoes, I can see at the lowest for federer is 6'0, he does look 4 inches shorter than 6'4 greg rusedki, so I think 6'0 for federer is accurate.
Preston said on 19/Aug/12

The 6'1" listing for Sampras I always believed. But if I had the choice of 6'1.25" and 6'0.5" I'd go for 6'0.5". Sampras could be 184cm but Federer lowest I can see is 1.85m.
Shaun said on 5/Aug/12
Watching him as we speak, I'd estimate him as 6'1" and 185 pounds. I think he has perfect proportions for a tennis player, not very tall range or muscular, elegant above anything really. You're kidding yourself if you think he's under 6'1". He looks about as 6'1" as you can get to me!

He's 6'1 or 1.85. He is actually really broad shouldered and looks a lot more built than he does on tv. He often looks skinny on tv. Roddick is a big strong looking guy, but Federer isn't far away.
Ali said on 11/Jun/12
My guesses are:

Nadal 182cm
Federer 183cm

Sampras and Federer are about the same height, but
Sampras looks shorter because he slouches.

Federer is not 186cm IMO.

Agassi is 2-3 inches shorter than Nadal. So he is
5'10 at best. 5'11 is completely nonsense. John
Mcenroe is 5'11 and he is clearly taller than Agassi.
Agassi is very little taller than his wife Graf who is
around 5'8-5'9.

I believe all ATP tennis players are listed an inch taller
than they are in reality.

The most difficult height to judge is Fernando Verdasco's.
He is listed at 6'2, but he can look exactly the same
height as Nadal. He is definitely no 6'2. 6'1 at best and
to be honest I think he is 6'0. He is definitely shorter
than Feliciano Lopez who is 6'1.5.

@Mr-KILLER-SHRIMP, good pics.

I stick by Federer being at least 185cm, not sure on Sampras I never watched tennis when he was around.
John said on 2/Feb/12
Federer is 6'1 but not much more...not positive about the extra quarter of an inch...Nadal is 1/2 inch shorter than Federer and a little over an inch shorter than Djokovic.

The players are all measured, usually barefoot but not always. (It should be apparent who isn't since tennis shoes usually add about an inch). Also there are cases where the measurement is clearly not accurate, disregarding whether they were measured barefoot or not. So the measurements while a good guide are not verbatim.

It seems the "idel" height for tennis players on the ATP is 6'1. Federer, Sampras were all 6'1. Nadal is not that tall, I saw him listed as 6' on a Barcelona tournament profile in 2005. I tried to check it but it had been upgraded to 6'1. I don't really think height is as big of a deal as people make it out to be in tennis. You can be really tall and have a great serve but if the other guy gets the ball back your chances of winning a baseline rally are less. If your shorter you are quicker and have to rely more on breaking serve because your serve usually isn't a weopan. The general thought is 6'1 is the perfect height for a good serve and movement. IDK?
Chris said on 4/Jan/12
@mister. Ferrer looks solid average guy, I think 5'9 fits better to him than 5'8, of course he's short to be a tennis player because the average is around 5'11-6ft.

@Jake. Simon is a skinny 5'11 same as Alexandr Dolgopolov (ukrainian player). Both were listed at 5'11 till last year when they were upgraded to 6ft (Dolgopolov grew an inch at 23 years old and Simon at 27!) I don't believe it. Many people said that back to 2005 when Nadal was 19 he was listed 6' even and the week after he won Roland Garros he was changed into 6'1.

Jake, Richard Gasquet is the same way. He is listed as 1.85m but if you see him stand next to a 1.84ish Nadal or Federer he is definatly not 1.85. Players often are measure with and without shoes. Federer is around 1.87 in shoes as I have seen him practicing up close. Other pros just lie about their height? Every hear of the celebrity 3 inch rule?

Federer is only 1 inches smaller that me, so yes 6ft 1.25 or 186 cms is right.
Perhaps 6ft 1.5 or 187 cms is possible too.
I met with Nadal and really Nadal is tall, for me 185 cms 6ft 1, a few less that Federer.

This whole thing about Federer and Nadal being the same height and within a kg of each other in weight is b.s. Federer is definatly taller even on a bad day, and Nadal weighs more than listed. Federer's weight on the ATP website is his current weight. Nadal's is his weight when he was just starting on tour.
LAN Jiao said on 16/Nov/11
Yes he is 186cm and guess he weight between 83-86kg.

Federer is not a guy to exaggerate his height. When he says 186 cm on his official website I believe it and I can confirm it as well after having sized up to him in Indian wells. Some guys like Gasquet grossly exaggerate and some only exaggerate their height minimally like Nadal. But I am pretty sure Federer is smack down to the height he claims which is 6 foot 1.25 inches tall.
LAN Jiao said on 2/Nov/11

Pete said on 29/Oct/11
The only way we can tell for sure is if we compare the other guys. Djokovic and Federer have a lot of pictures together, where they appear about the same height. Djokovic was on a Conan Obrien show, and he appears the same height as Conan, who is 6'4 ; That being said, I think Djokovic is definitely good 6'2 or more and thus Federer has to be over 6'1 ;
fred said on 26/Oct/11
all legit sites on Federer have listed as a shade over 6 foot 1, as in 6 foot 1.25 inches exactly. This I can testify to as I stood next to him at Indian Wells and I am the same height. He also looks broader in real life that you would think given that he looks so thin on TV.

Anon said on 5/Oct/11
I agree that Nadal is definately not a full 6'1. every website on the net except one has him at this height, but in reality he is more 183 - 184. I think he is very likely 6'0 as an evening height and the only other thing i can suggest is that he may be 184 due to stretching exercises that many athletes perform. in addition to him having a very strong back this may result in him losing less height due to more stress distributed through his back muscles and less compression of the intervertebral discs in the spine. This may also create a straighter spine. John Mcenroe claims spinal stretching exercises resulted in him gaining height but i'm not convinced this truly works, although it does at least seem plausible. However you wouldn't realistically gain more than 1cm though.

We both had tennis shoes so I figure if someone says 6' 2 inches for him it isnt that far off the mark

Met federer twice and he is a legit 6-1. He appears tall but not very tall. I'm 6-1 myself and we were eye to eye. He might well be a quarter inch taller than 6-1 as he often gets credited for but I couldn't tell this unless he were measured in front of me. One thing that struck me when I met him was his wings span. It seemed he has arms for a frame of someone who might be
6-3 or 6-4. This I guess plays hugely into his favor.

Shaun said on 4/Jul/11
[Editor Rob: all I'm saying is that I don't think they measure players and what a player says can differ from what they are billed at...I'm not even talking about Agassi. 5ft 8 is indeed an unbelievable estimate for him.]

Isn't it compulsory that players undergo a medical by the Lawn Tennis Association and have their height and weight taken for their stats?? How else would the LTA list them and settle on a formal height for them? Because one player says "I'm 6'1" and 187 pounds? I don't believe that, sorry Rob, in a professional sport such as tennis I believe they are at least measured by their doctors.
[Editor Rob: well they could be measured and some discrepancies result because of a few mismeasurements or measured in sneakers.]
Shaun said on 3/Jul/11

There is inconsistency in tennis, basketball and other sports with listed heights. They most likely measure a lot in sneakers but some like Federer seem to be listed as barefoot but they do measure them all the same. In Spadea's case, he was likely measured 5'11.5" in sneakers and was rounded up. My point Rob is that he WAS measured.
Shaun said on 3/Jul/11

So you think Andre Agassi is 5'7"? Bull****. He was listed at 5'11" and is probably 5'10", no lower. The "big discrepancy" is never likely to be more than 1.5" sorry Rob.

Federer looks close to 186cm. Not less than 185. To me Nadal looks anywhere from 182 to 184cm. Personally i think his actual minimum height may be 182cm however 183cm in truth is more likely. As far as i'm concerned he is 6ft no more, no less. It's important to remember that height isn't completely fixed anyway as everyone loses a couple of cm's from morning to evening ..possibly even a bit more (the more pressure exerted on your spine the more height you lose). Your height is the average of your maximum and minimum heights. But I like to go by the rule of taking lowest height (evening height) as true height.

Most of the time when you see Federer next to Nadal he appears to be very slightly taller. I think that Federer is a shade more than 6 ft 1 and Nadal is a shade less than 6 ft 1. Overall they do not have any advantage over each other in terms of leverage since there height difference is so little. I agree that some of the heights on the ATP website are way off, like for example listing Hewitt at 5 ft 11 is ridiculous. Federer is a pro athlete who has regular medicals, drug tests etc. His OFFICIAL stats shown on TV during tournaments are also verfied by the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) on their own website Click Here I play tennis also and, whilst I don't really know what an "insert" is, I assume if you are talking about some sort of wedge in the shoe to be taller, then you are in real danger of hurting your ankles. No tennis player, let alone a pro, would do this. To be frank, debating the height of most pro athletes is a bit of a waste of time.

federer is at least 6'1. Anyone who played tennis knows that the idea of any insert is absurd. Federer is no more than 185cm(6"1).Nadal is 182-3cm(6"0).Federer looks clearly 2 or 3cm taller than Nadal.

This guy looks 6'2 TBH.

182cm for Nadal is unrealistic. He is 184-185cm

If Federer was an actor or some other kind of celebrity he could probably get away with calling himself 6'3", that's how much actors lie about their height and how much tennis players are honest about their heights. Fed says he's 6'1" but he's definitely a little higher than that, he's a little bit taller than Nadal. If you see pics of him with other celebrities, he makes them look way shorter than what they say they are.

The height difference between federer and nadal would't larger than 1cm, actually they are at the same height, both 6'1. So you see federer is taller sometimes, while nadal maybe taller in other occasion"

Listen dude, it's impossible for a human eye to notice that kind of a difference(1cm-1.5cm). The reason why Federer looks taller than Nadal is coz Federer is 185cm and Nadal 183 or 182. 2-3cm is noticiable difference. 1cm could be only detected by an expert like glenn or Rob.

eung as I said Nadal put insoles in his shoes, so he could look as tall as Federer. Wimbledon pics shows he's clearly shorter than Federer, I don't think he's grown anything in the last 6 months, I mean he's gonna turn 23."

I kinda agree with ya. I think nadal puts insoles in his shoes to look as tall as fedexpress but i think Roger Federer is around 184cm and Nadal 182cm. I saw both players in person and they don't look their supposed heights.

Are you looking at old tennis footage? Because based on the Australian Open last month I would say Nadal is comfortably 6

I can hardly see Nadal being as tall as Federer, he always looks at least 2 cms shorter. At times he may look closer, but that's because he puts insoles in his shoes to protect his knees. I'm pretty sure Fed is one of the very few atp players to have his correct height on his profile. Nadal may be 6'0" (he was listed as 5'11" at 18 but he might have grown a bit), not his listed 6'1". Roddick sometimes looks the 6'2" he gets listed, but in some pics he looks shorter than Federer and a lot of people that met him describe him as 6'0"/6'1". Personally I always saw him as a tall guy, but I've seen only once live and I wasn't very close to judge. Hewitt is listed at 5'11" but he gets towered by Federer and many other players most of the time, I think he's at most 5'10". Djokovic is listed at 6'2", he looks marginally taller than Federer, maybe 6'1.5 is more accurate, but probably they rounded it up. I seem to remember Murray listed at 6'2" one year ago or so, probably he's not the full 6'3" but nothing less than 6'2". Gasquet was listed as 5'11" until two or three years ago, he got pro very young so he might have grown a little since he's profile has been created but sure isn't the full 6'1" and probably not even a full 6'0", met him personally a lot of time, he's clearly shorter than me (6'1.25") and also clearly shorter than Nadal. Tsonga he's listed at 6'2", I can hardly see him being anything below that, I always thought he was at least 6'3", huge guy. Verdasco listed as 6'2" is one of the silliest things ever, to me he looks not even a full 6'0", clearly shorter than Feliciano Lopez and clearly shorter than Tsonga when they met in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. James Blake is listed at 6'1", he looks 5'11" to me. Fish is listed at 6'2", I may be wrong but I seem to remember him listed at 6'0" in 2003. Almagro, listed at 6'0" isn't any taller than 5'10". Gulbis is listed at 6'3", he clearly looks shorter than Djokovic, he's probably as tall as Nadal or just a fraction over it. Finally, Donald Young listed at 6'0" isn't anywhere close to this, at the very most he could be 5'9.5" but I wouldn't be surprised if he's even shorter.

Roger is 6ft 1 as well as Nadal. I met them and comparing them to my 5ft 9 frame it seemed right. Roddick on the other hand is close to 6ft 2.5 i guess... He seemed fairly large!

I did always think that Federer was taller than Nadal, although having said that, Nadal is only young, it could be that he's grown an inch or so ?

Nadal looked taller than Federer on the podium at the 2009 Oz Open ceremony, but there were many times Roger had more height. I'd say he's around 186 cm while Nadal 185 and Roddick 187. Sampras was a slouch so some of his claimed 6'1 height didn't seem to be there.

Nadal and Federer are the same height. Nadal is
even looking taller slightly nowadays.

Both of them are 184/185 cm.

Feder and Nadal are both 6'-1" check Click Here Nadal just beat Federer in the Auatrailin open On Feb 1, 2009. They both are true professionals. It was a great match but Federer looked a little shaken up in the in the 5Th and Final Set. Federer shed tears as he toke the podium and made his speach. Nadal really repects Federer and they will meet again.

Federer is taller than Nadal and always has; they both aren't 6'1". Nadal's height has been listed wrong for many years, now, and I wonder why when its clearly obvious given that the two are the top of the game so they get compared often. It's obvious Federer is taller.

federer is 6 foot 1- 186 cm and nadal is 6-1- 185 cm, federer and nadal's stats would be accurate, just check their websites too, andy murray is 6'3- 191 cm,juan del potro is 6 foot 6- 198 cm.

Federer is my favourite player, best ever player for me even if he wins no more big events/ majors he is a tennis god.

Hewitt.. 5'10.5"???? I doubt that. He's a flat 5'10. Check out any picture of him and Andre Agassi (who's a legit 5'11) and you'll see that Agassi is a solid inch taller than hewitt. Even though he's bald. Like I said, Hewitt is 5'10 and Agassi is 5'11.
Leung said on 9/Sep/08
Hewitt is only 5

Naaaah, Murray looks close enough to his billed height of 6'3. The most I'd take of is half an inch. That would make Murray 6'2.5". Now Nadal is definately 6 feet tall. Nothing more. I remember him changing his shoes during Wimbledon. While being filmed we saw him putting insoles in his shoes. Those insoles are about a half inch in thickness.

Bongo, Roddick has flat trainers and Federer has dress shoes on.
Ian said on 8/Sep/08
Federer is smaller than andy murray and taller than nadal if that helps. Murray is about 6ft2 and Nadal looks to be around 6ft tall as murray had a couple of inches on him.

Im sure they upgraded Nadal's height because hes become more successful. They do it all the time in sports. Especially in college.
Jake said on 4/Sep/08
I would've believed it if they had Nadal listed at 6'0. But now that they've increased his height to 6'1, I'm feeling doubtful. Here a picture of Nadal and Federer standing side-by-side after this years French Open 2008 match. It's quite obvious that Federer has more than an inch on Nadal. Click Here

Fed is one of the few players who are listed correctly.
Bongo said on 30/Aug/08
OK..what gets to me is the fact that Hewitt is listed as 5'11. Federer has 3 to 3.5 inches on Hewitt in the snap below. And Roddick who's listed as 6'2, looks about the same height as federer who's 6'1. I can see that Roddick's eye level is about an inch above Federer's, but since federer has a more longer head, it seems he's neck in neck with Roddick. Kinda makes up for that 1-inch loss. Click Here
Jake said on 30/Aug/08
And again, either Federer is being generous and stating his height as 6'1 (when he's more), or all other players, including Pete Sampras in this pic, are lying about their heights. As seen below, Federer has a good inch on Sampras, who also claims 6'1.

Hmm I Beckham really the 5'11.5" he's listed at, after looking at this photo of him and Federer side by side? If he is, Federer looks more like a 6'2.5" guy.
