@ Rob, can you squeeze in Bachelor Mother? A recommended one with Niven and Ginger Rogers

Looked exactly the same height as David Niven in Bachelor Mother and that was 1939.

Given that he was 5'10 range in his early 70s I'd say 5'11.5 peak is a good shout.

You left out "The More The Merrier" for which he won a best supporting actor Oscar.

Actually, Gonzalo, that's apparently false...people have claimed it but James was from a working class family and not directly related to Charles it seems.

He was born in like 1877, so in the 1900s quite likely he was close to 6 ft.

Yes Sam as I said he looked 5'10.5" in his late 60s early 70s so I figured an inch loss on average would put him at 5'11.5" peak.

Coburn was a superb actor; one of the best supporting actors in Hollywood´s golden era. Hard to tell his true height since he was old in most of his movies. He looked around 1´78 in his sixties so he could have been over 1`80 in his heyday.

Thanks for adding. Like I said I could see him at as much as 5'11", don't know about over.
He looks about 4 inches shorter than Joel McCrea IMO (5'10.5"?)

...and 2.5-2.75 I think shorter than Cary Grant (5'10.25"-5'10.5")

Can be hard to judge since he was already up there in age by the time he was in movies. Delightful actor at any rate.

Nice one Rob, much appreciated but don't forget The More the Merrier which he was in with McCrea and won Best Supporting Actor for! He was looking 5'10" range in his early 70s in Monkey business and Gentleman Prefer Blondes. I think he was described as 6 ft in his prime and in seeing him next to Cary Grant in his early 70s it's quite possible as a younger man he would have been near it. I got a good look at him in Monkey Business and thought he looked 5'10.5, so an inch loss on average would have put him at 5'11.5" peak. I think it's a good shout don't you Sam?
