He told me he was 5'11". He wasn't - 15 years ago. About 5'9" then would have been right

I think David is equally good at comedy and serious acting. He was in an 'Inspector Morse' episode, (Dead on Time), getting fitted up as an act of revenge, for something that turned out to be assisted suicide, and Lewis protected Morse from knowing that it was his first love who did the assisting bit! Good and thoughtful Lewis even chucked some evidence in a pond at the end! David's character is of course, let out of the nick, but not until he's been made to suffer for the car crash that killed the daughter of the couple (Morse's former sweetheart and her husband, the one who can't live with his terminal illness - and won't.)
I also saw David in 'Cracker', and he's been in 'Midsomer Murders', so he has acted in quite a few superb detective dramas.
Comedy-wise, he played a prominent part in 'Four Weddings and a Funeral', and was in 'The Thin Blue Line', giving ample opportunity for us to take in his height. I did think that he was slightly less than the 5ft9 printed here, but that could have something to do with the fact that he is slightly rotund, with short legs, though in the picture above he looks a lot like he's been on a successful diet, so good on him for that! 👍
I am going for 5ft8.5 for David on this occasion.
