I don't miss one show of the David Letterman show it's been some years now. He always wears tasseled loafers, which give him about 1cm or 1/2 inch at the most. He couldn't care less about lifts. And who would, at 187cm. I agree with most posts here, about 187 at his peak, around 185cm now. No shorter than that. Definitely. When he walks it's like he's gonna take everything along with him (kinda like a bulldozer); those are long legs
Who said he wears lifts here is drunk

PS. I vote best personality on TV

Joe Montana was listed his senior year in college as 6'0"It is also a fact through out the NFL he was the best true six foot quater back to play the game.Besides Howard Stern told me Letterman is 5'9" tops .May be he use;s shoe lifts everyone does.3" lifts would put him at 6'0"thats pretty tall for TV

Have been watching for 25 years now and can safely say he was likely 6-2 at his peak and is now around the 6-1.5 to 6-1.75 range, definitely not shorter than that.

He looks a legit 6'1 to me.

Was the exact same height as 6'2" Joe Montana in the 1990's.

David is very vain..and tries to look bigger than he is on TV.so wears bigger shoes en straightens his posture. In RL on the streets he's tiny!

Letterman can't be more than 6'0" nowadays. When you see him walk around the city he looks pretty average actually. Maybe he was 6'1.5" in his prime, but definitely not at this age.

Letterman is about the same height as Borat. And Borat usually towers over everyone. I think it's safe to say that Letterman is still 6'2".

Routh looked about 1-2 inches taller than Letterman in this clip, although there next to each other for a second. 6'1'' sounds right.

Bear in mind too regarding Dave, he always wears low-heeled shoes (wrestling boots in the early days, now always dress loafers that are almost always going to be lower than any guest's shoes). Just my two cents, whether they're worth anything or not.

All of those who want to know who Conan copied in his first few years of being on the air, look no further. Here's the second part of David Letterman interviewing Bill Murray in the summer of 1984. This has to be the craziest interview ever. Dave hasn't only physically changed, but so has his entire personality: Click Here

Kelsey Grammer who is 6'1"-6'2" always appeared the same height as Dave.

I did see a women a basketball player who was on their she said she was 6,3 i don't know if she was wearing heals or not but she towered over letterman by atleast 3 inches. IMO if he's 6,2 he's just about there i don't belvie he is though 6,1 is likely.

Take into account that Letterman is almost 60 years old. He is shorter today. I can tell. NO doubt that he was 6'2" in his younger years. Just go to Youtube.com and type in his name and you will have dozens of old clips from his old show from the 80's, where you will see 6'2" isn't so hard to swallow. I can even go so far as to say that he was 6'2" up until the early to mid 90's, when he would stand next to Joe Montana ALL THE TIME and they were the exaxt same height. Letterman also stated that he was once measured at 6'2.5".

My Dad is the exact same age as Letterman and when I stopped growing at 18 years old, I was slightly taller than my Dad (10-11 years ago). Today, I am FAR taller than him. It just happens. I'm sure my Dad was my height when he was my age. It's called gravity. It happens to us all.

Only looks an inch max to me between Owens and Letterman.
Viper652 said on 21/Jul/06
I think this video with Letterman and Terrel Owens confirms that Owens is closer to 6-2 flat, not that Letterman is 6-2. Even Letterman says they are close in height. Click Here

[Editor Rob: I thought owens had an easy 1.5 inches there...I still buy his draft height just 'shy of 6ft 3' and letterman not quite his own claim]

Letterman can't be shorter than 6-1.
Viper652 said on 24/May/06
No way is Letterman 6-2. I just watched a clip of New York Yankees Derek Jeter come on to his show. Jeter is listed at 6-3 but hes really around 6-2 exactly and he had Letterman by at least 1 to maybe 2 inches.
td said on 23/May/06
yeah hes obviously atleast 6'1" and if uve seen him next to the lead singer for the dixie chicks he towers over her.
Gigantism C said on 11/May/06
Naugh, I think he's a solid 6'2''... and probably without shoes on that one. He's a taller guy. He's not f'in 6'0''. And I don't think he would exaggerate very much regarding "6'2"".
Viper652 said on 9/May/06
I think Letterman has been fudging on his height somewhat the whole time. Hes between 6-0-6-1.

Letterman has said he is 6'2" but he doesn't look it to me.
Norwegian girl said on 2/May/06
Letterman is mostly taller than his guests.. I don't think that most of his guests are tiny, so.. he is definatly tall! about 6'1" to 6'2" I'd say:-D

I did not catch charles barkley on letterman the other night, however while I was watching march madness they said something like "Charles Barkley was listed at 6'7" but he was really only 6'3.5""
TheMan said on 31/Dec/05
Im not dissagreeing with the height stated all i will say is that he does not look tall at all. Before i knew he's height i just assumed he was about 5,8 maybe 5,9.

This guys is in NO WAY under 6ft. He's the same height as Rob Reiner and they are both around 6'2. The way the camera angles are, you can see some celebrities walk next to a host and think they're the same height, but it all has to do with where they are positioned. Even photographs of yourself...everyone has seen someone shorter or taller than themselves (by a couple inches even) that can suddenly look the same height from a photo where they are standing next to them. It only takes one person slightly closer to the camera, someone slouching, high heels, or a tilt of the camera to create the illusion of heights.

David Letterman is shorter than 6'1,5 and as i mentioned earlier he looks shorter than David Duchovny who is 6ft and he looked more than 4 inches shorter than snoop dog who is 6'4 and he is definitely an inch shorter than Christopher Walken.
iam sure he is no more than 6 ft and maybe even shorter.
Smoke said on 29/Apr/05
Yup, that would make Sam the 6'2" that I think he has always looked. No way Sam or Bernie Mack are the 6'3" they've been billed at for years.
cantstop25 said on 29/Apr/05
samuel l. jackson was on his show and he looked to only be about the same height as letterman maybe .5 inch taller max
Smoke said on 21/Apr/05
I wouldn't be so sure that Duchovny is a dead on 6 footer, in fact he has always looked atleast somewhat taller than this to me. In "Playing God" I recall him being just as tall, if not taller, than Timothy Hutton, and Hutton himself is listed at 6'1". I think he is quite possibly 6'0.5" at the very least. That being said, Letterman is getting older and shorter by the day now, and with a camera angle in slight favour of a guy like Duchovny he would easily appear to be shorter.

he has said he was 'measured in his youth at 6'2 1/2 and may be around a straight 6'2 now'
