How tall is George Takei

George Takei's Height

5ft 5 (165.1 cm)

Peak height was 5ft 6 (167.6 cm)
American actor best known for his portrayal of Sulu in the Original Star Trek series and subsequent movie spin-offs. He is also known for playing Kaito Nakamura on Heroes. I met him in 2007 and 2008 at Collectormania and Jenny met him in 2009 London Collectormania. On Howard Stern's show George claimed he used to be 5ft 8 but shrank to 5ft 6 and a half.

I love George! It appears in the photo with Rob (knowing that Rob is 5'8") that George is about 2" shorter than Rob, not 3"
My vote, 5'6" for George.

rob, he's kind of crazy on politics
Editor Rob
I am not so much interested in the politics of actor's, but simply trying to guess their height πŸ™‚ His 5ft 8 claim is a bit hard to believe.

I always liked him in 'Star Trek' and when he appeared in 'I'm A Celebrity....Get Me Out Of Here', and we saw what a nice man he really is, I liked him even more.

5ft6 as Sulu and and inch less today. 🌞
Jkiller said on 20/May/20
Peak height was definitely 5'6, nowadays 5'5.

Rob, how big is his head? in this pic, it looks like similar yours, what is maybe a little big?
Editor Rob
9.5 inches is very possible.

He looks bit taller than solid 5ft 5 standing next to you and Jenny in those pics... I would say 5ft 5 and half aka Triple 5.... Peak height is presumably 5ft 6 half range or so..
For his 2019 height, I would go with 5ft 5 as you listed cause those pics were almost decades ago. That explains all..
Jere said on 10/Jul/19
He looks over 5’5” to me.

@Rob

But Takei wasn't 5'8" in the first place though.
Editor Rob
It's a joke...loads of 5ft 6.5 guys claim to be 5ft 8 πŸ˜‰

I found a height claim for George Takei on this Howard Stern Show log site. If you scroll down to Robin’s news, inside the third paragraph he claims he shrank from 5 ft 8 to 5 ft 6.5. Sorry, I forgot the link here it is Click Here
Editor Rob
Thanks for noticing it, I'll mention what he claimed.

What is it with these 5ft 8 guys shrinking to 5ft 6.5!
Danimal said on 18/May/17
Rob, he's 80 years ago. Surely he's lost height (2"). There needs to be a before and after for him.
Editor Rob
yeah he could be 5ft 5 now, but I dont' think he's shrunk as much as an average man...for one thing, he's a few inches shorter than average and has kept himself in good shape.

Was up at my sister campus ( penn state ) two weeks ago and he gave a speech there to a lot of the students. I did get to attend. Was maybe 10 feet from him he looked in the 5'4-5'6 range. Very humble guy by the way. Also quite interesting.

Rob , how was he with you, friendly?
Editor Rob
yes Jordan, from the times I've seen George, he has always had a positive and welcoming personality with fans. Seems a good bloke!
qbert said on 24/Nov/16
he looks 5'7 with jenny there. is it about a decade ago?
Editor Rob
qbert, I think 2009 that one was taken.

Ah! What a lovely guy! I remember when he was in the celebrity jungle, the year Joe Swash was crowned 'King of the Jungle!' He got on well with everybody and in turn, everyone liked him. I thought it rather sweet that George and Joe said that they would keep in touch with each other. I do hope they did!
It comes as no surprise that he is here being photographed with you Rob! I bet he was great to meet!
He must have been very young when he starred in the original 'Star Trek' series and seeing here that he has only lost an inch from his 5ft6 peak height, he must look after himself very well indeed. He was fit enough to be accepted for 'I'm a Celebrity...' and he looks to be in fine health to me!
eew said on 19/Oct/16
why no "current" height and "peak height" distinction?
Editor Rob
today I think he is closer to 5ft 5, so I will give him that, he hasn't retired and is still active out there.

his peak I think is 5ft 6, today I think he is edging towards 5ft 5.

I remember reading years ago that he was 5.7 and that Walter Koenig was 5.8 in their prime. I always thought that Sulu looked taller than Chekov on Star Trek TOS. I saw Koenig at a Comic con a few years ago and looked about 5.5 max.
Matt 184.7-186.7cm said on 3/Oct/13

Freaky.

Physics Enemy said on 16/Nov/11
I've had another look at this and it's a little weird. He looks a flat 5' 5" next to Rob accounting for his footwear advantage, but does look 5' 6" next to Jenny.
Editor Rob
I believe he has a fraction more than jenny aswell
Physics Enemy said on 29/Oct/11
I think he's 167 cm. He's got a big forehead. He does look close to 5' 6" with Rob, but has a slight footwear advantage. So 167 cm. He's not 5' 5" though.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 27/Oct/11
A little under 5"6...166cm-167cm range

runt said on 20/May/11
@me
No he doesn't have thin heels, in fact he has the footwear advantage. His eye level may be throwing ppl off in his case. The top of his head might be in the 5-6 range.

He has a pretty extensive filmography to my surprise.
guyfrommars said on 24/Apr/11
If he was 5'6" in his prime, Walter Koenig was only 5'5". They looked the same height on Star Trek many times, but Koenig was wearing the 2-inch heeled boots in every episode he appeared in, while Takei shifted to the shorter, 2nd season version and then the even shorter 3rd season one. Either Takei was 5'7" and Koenig 5'6" or Takei 5'6" and Koenig 5'5".

Met him at star trek convention once. Friendliest guy ever. I don't think he will ever get sick of people calling him Sulu though Shatner got angry once for being called capt.Kirk. I would have never known he was gay if he didn't come out. He looks, acts, and sounds too straight. Looks taller than 5-6 in real life. Maybe wearing lifts?
me said on 4/Jan/11
I agree that there is a little more than 3 inches here. Is he on very thin heels?
Brad said on 30/Dec/10
5' 6" peak, 5' 5" now.
James said on 1/Jun/09
I struggle to see a proper 5'6 next to Rob. Any chance of downgrading to 5ft5.5? I mean George is even closer to the camera.

Editor Rob
he could be 1cm under 5ft 6 now.

Shaq os 7'1 said on 23/Mar/08
Well then he seems to be a solid 5'6" even now at 70 years old or a minimum 5'5.5".

Editor Rob
he's got about 1/2 extra inch of hair. See here to see it flatter
Shaq is 7'1 said on 23/Mar/08
Hey Rob since you are a Celtic fan what do you think of Garnett and the C's 55-14 record? Garnett's influence on the team has been tremendous and I believe he is one of the reasons all of those young players and bench players have improved so much. Everything seems to be going perfect for Boston.

If he has a footwear advantage then I'd say 5'5" or 5'5.5" now. I could easily believe 5'6" for peak height.

Editor Rob
only slight advantage, I mean 0.2 inch, he has running shoes that are a little bit thicker, I have usual 1 inch style.

oh, I'm a football Celtic fan, not a bballer ;)

I think Mr.Takei is a fine actor. However I also believe him to be approximatly 5'6" tall. I recall him standing next to Frank Sinatra in the film "Never So Few".We all know "Old Blue Eyes" was between 5'8-9" tall.

George Takei really is 5'6", I saw him at 2 star trek conventions and he signed my autograph on both occasions, standing straight in front of me.
