Just watched Clear and Present Danger yesterday and his "a bit over the 6 ft mark" seems perfect. I'd say 184 cm in his prime and around 5'11 (180 cm)today. So he could have lost near 2 inches of height. A great actor!

Near 6ft1 peak is believable watching Blade Runner and Raiders of The Lost Ark.

And I think he was no more than 183cm at his peak, anything over 6ft was probably in shoe measurements. I know that he is old now, but he did look very close in height to 177-178cm Daniel Craig, was taller than Craig by maybe 2cm. So I believe he is 179-180cm now, and was 183cm back in the days, makes sense.

I'm one of those who believe that at least today, at his seventies, he's no taller than 5'9". At least, that's what can be seen at the "Expendables 3" teaser, where he is the same distance from the camera as Mel Gibson and Antonio Banderas, and the three are the same height.

if letterman is 6'0.75-1" today (and he seems it a lot, look at him next to Obama), then Ford is for sure in the 5'11" range: Click Here

i think he's anywhere between 5'10.75 (at worst) and 5'11.25 (at best) so i think the ave, 5'11 would be the fairest choice.
about his peak height it's not clear, but for sure he wasn't anything under a strong 6'...6'0.25 (at worst), 6'0.5" and 6'0.75" (at best) are all fine, but not 6'0" or even 6'1".
IMO:

Currently: range 5'10.75-11.25"
Peak: range 6'0.25-6'0.75"

Ford was 6'1" during his prime years but clearly has lost height, he looked only slightly taller than Daniel Craig in Cowboys and Aliens. Craig could have been wearing lifts in shoes which I would suspect. Craig I believe is no taller than 5'9" but Ford is no shorter than 5'11' these days, he has lost height due to age an injury but is in excellent shape for a man in his 70s.

Probably full 6'1 until Temple of doom. He suffered a back injury then strong 6'0 until late 90's.from late 90's up until his last indiana jones movie he looked a flat 6'0.

I think Ford in his prime was roughly the same as Henry Cavill. Dropped to 184.5cm at his lowest and could get away with claiming 6ft1

Harrison was never over 6 feet. He is (a lot) shorter in public. Today, barely 5'9" in flat feet.

Rob in a scene in 'Fugitive' where Ford is dressed as a doctor trying to escape from a hospital, a policeman asks him whether he has seen the suspect and describes him as 6'1". Is that worth adding in the description?

the mugshot in the movie is probably a good indicator he wasn't 6ft 1 in it, I think he should have looked taller.

Never looked more than 6 foot. Only in Star Wars when he had chunky heels did he look over it. Look at him next to an aged Sean Connery, Sean had probably lost a good chunk and was about 6'1 during The Last Crusade and yet was easily taller. Nowadays he looks no more than 5'10.5.

Ford was definitely over 6 feet tall in his prime years, it was not a stretch to say that he was close to 6'1" when he was acting in action films. He was acting with Daniel Craig in Cowboys and Aliens, in one publicity photo he appeared to be the same height as Daniel Craig and in other photos he was noticeably taller, which leads me to believe that Craig wears lifts, also in another photo the two appear to the be the same height, and in one other photo the Ford appears to be only one inch taller. I think Ford today is 5'11", his peak was 6'0.5", not a full 6'1", it was not a stretch for him to tell people he was 6'1", it was nothing like Stallone bragging about him being 5'11' when in reality he was only 5'7".

I think 6'1" was his height in shoes. He was more like 6 feet and half an inch barefoot. He is a very lean man, apparently his weight is between 160 to 170 pounds which is very lean for a man that is over 6 feet tall, so that can give him the appearance of being taller. In the Fugitive he looked slightly taller than Tommy Lee Jones who is around 5'11.5" to 6 feet. Lately he looks the same height as 5'10" Daniel Craig, Craig is still in his prime years, Ford is an old man, people begin to lose height in their 50s and 60s due to the cartilage in their spine and knees wearing out.

You shrink through the day you know, sorry to burst your bubble, just leave your theory on men growing after 18 up to a geneticist, as I am sure there are many factors involved in growth and it's not the same for every man as your comment suggests.

When I was 18, I stood 180 (5'11''). By the time I was 21, 184 6'1/2'' and by the time I was 25-30, 186 (6 1 1/4''), my current height. 15 years later, only my belly is growing.

Ford was 6 ft 0.5 peak = 5'11 or 5-11.25 flat today. lost 1.5 inches due to age, and back surgery. Maybe he should get an inversion bed.

Ape 4: When I was 18, I measured 5'11.25 in the evening. By age 24 I measured 5'11.75 in the evening. So 1/2 inch, or 1 to 2 cm is normal to gain in your early 20's.

Looked really tall in his prime. Looking back at Star Wars he looks like he could almost pass for 6'2" (at least). I assume being very lean and surrounded by short actors and extras worked in his favor to achieve that affect. I'd certainly say he was essentially 6'1". After Temple of Doom he apparently lost an inch due to an injury on set. You can actually tell that he seems slightly shorter in The Last Crusade.

I have to say, watching Blade runner, he really does give a 184cm impression. Ford may have very well have been the same, though my "Official" peak height for Ford remains 6ft0.75/185...

Mugahot,

Being that you are a guy from medical profession, then I am encouraged to hear you acknowledge that 2-3 cm is an average level of shrinkage by old age. In fact, I would say over 3 cm of shrinkage is not inconceivable for those who have sustained disc surgery and or scoliosis. My grand father was 5'10.5 and 156 pounds at age 26 in the U.S. Army in 1944. By age 90, in 2008 he stood 5'5", due in part to a curved spine, but also general aging. an inch or 1.5 inches can be expected by age 75 or 80,unless one is a rare individual who keeps very good posture and abdominal musculature well into their 70's. Dr. Roshini Raj was interviewed on NBC's Today show Friday Oct 7, 2011, going into great detail explaining the average decrease in stature of senior citizens.

If Harrison Ford was 6 foot -1/2 inch tall by mid day (as I propose) at age 30, his current height of 5'11 -5'11.5 seems very consistent for his age of 71 years.
Rampage(-_-_-)Clover said on 2/Mar/14

A 34 inseam is pretty long. And don't forget he states his own height as 6'1 in the fugitive itself, much better than a poster. Anyway, although they're is no chance for 6'1, I do think he was a solid 184 at peak, and the 6ft0.75 listing fits him, though 6ft0.5 is likely. PS: with Billy Dee Williams finally at 180cm peak, Ford's gotta be over 6 feet ;)
Chuckie Cheese 2 said on 18/Feb/14
Maio & Jake,

Agreed, 6ft 1/2" 184 cm his peak height in the 70's. The Fugitive shows him standing up to a line up and he is 6'1" in shoes. He probably has lost 1 or 1.5 inches in height like most men tend to by age 71, Ford looks a flat 5-11 these days. And if Ford really was 165 lbs in New Hope, that explains why he appeared rather tall in Star Wars and all his early films. Being lanky can give an optical illusion of being 1 or 2 inches taller.
Chuckie Cheese 2 said on 17/Feb/14
Mike, Harrison Ford is described at age 35 in this 1977 Magazine as 6'1" a "lanky" 165 pounds, brown eyes, brown hair, Age 35:

This actually makes him about 5 or 10 lbs lighter than I figured he was in Star Wars 1977, and once again reinforces for me the belief that a true 6 footer, when slender and medium framed, can look a strong 6'1" on screen. Kind of like how Hayden Christensen was thought to be 6'1 or 6'2, his slim frame made him appear 2 inches taller. And I really doubt Ford was any taller tan the statuesque Christensen... Maybe 1/4 inch or something at best.

The Conversation is a very good film agreed, and a groundbreaking one in terms of the approach, but clearly not Coppola's best. He was arguably the best film director of the 70s though, although Kubrick overall is my favourite.
Chuckie Cheese 2 said on 29/Jan/14
6'1 was likely his stage height in shoes. His peak stature was 6 foot, maybe a touch over 6'. But he could look a strong 6'1 because he was lean in the 70's-80's, probably 170- 175 lbs. and he even lost 15 lbs for Apocalypse Now, where he looks like a skeletal 160.

From Star Wars in '77 to Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, measurements of his movie props show him to be modestly sized: wore a 38 - 40 jacket!, 15 1/2 neck, 32-34 pants, size 7 1/8 hat, and size 10-1/2 Alden 405 boots. Even as late as the 'fugitive' in '93, he was listed at 6 ft and 175 lbs on the "wanted" poster for the movie, and is photographed standing against a line-up which shows him to be 6'1,in shoes!. Ford may have been a strong 6' in his 20's - 40's, but most men do lose 1" or more by age 70, so he's 5-11 flat nowadays.

but yeah, Im 6 ft and 165-170, and 38-39" around the chest, and 32" around the waist, so its hard to see a guy much heavier than me with those proportions. But hey, 40 years ago a 175 lb 6 ft guy was 'leading man' material... nowdays you gotta be 220 , 6'3 and ripped.

He was probably still at least a strong 6ft when making Patriot Games.

About 6ft.25-6ft.05 in patriot games. You could tell by that stage years of injuries took a toll on his height and posture which is why he might have looked 5'11ish in the movie at times. I also think ford was roughly 6ft.05 up until 1997 and then no higher than 183cm by the end of the 90 s.

184-185cm in the early 80s no doubt

As I have stated before Harrison Ford in his younger years, before his back injury on the set of Temple of Doom was easily 6'1 you only have to watch some of his earlier work to realize that! But I admit now he is probably 5'11 flat the vagaries of age and his injuries.

I just saw Harrison Ford yesterday on the upper east side of Manhatten. I almost bumped into him, he was that close. I'm 5'11 and he is no 6 feet. Not that anyone should care how tall he is but my perception has always been that he was considerably taller.
Paddie said on 25/Oct/13
Firstly, people do not realize that: from a medical point of view, you don't usually shrink as much as 1.5 - 2 inches. Doctors clearly state 1 inch is already a lot for someone to lose in his height by the elderly age.
Secondly, Click Here There's an inch of difference. Bradd Pitt has always been doubted as a 180 cm guy. It's very likely that he is a 178 cm guy ( his posture/body/short legs frame clearly advocate this opinion ).
Thirdly, as someone here mentioned already, Ford is around an inch shorter than Hauer in Blade Runner. Hauer has always been thought of as a strong 6-footer, possibly 6'0.5'' feet tall. Thus, it is more than obvious that Ford cannot have been taller than 6'0'' tall.
Conclusion, Ford is around 5'11.5 mark, while Pitt around 5'10''-5'10.5''.
Best regards

Harrison Ford's Height is 5ft11/180cm. Peak Height was 6ft0.75/184.5-185cm. I think 6ft0.75 is perfect for Ford. You could argue 6ft0.5 or 6ft1(184-185cm range), however, I think it's clear he was never a strong 6ft1 guy, yet I think he was very close when he was younger. Personally I believe the injuries to his body caused him to start losing height early. Though he could have easily been 184cm peak, I think a weak 185cm is fair. Today, he has lost a significant amount of height. At best, he's 181cm, but I doubt he's over 5'11 evening. So there is my evaluation of a legends height. Thanks!!!

Rob, maybe you should consider downgrading Mr. Ford to 5 ft 11 nowadays, and 6 6 ft 0 - 1/2 inch peak (1 m, 84). In the '93 film "The Fugitive" the 51 year old Ford was an even 6 ft 1 with his shoes on, and if we subtract 2/3 or 1 full inch, Mr Ford was 6 ft 0 or 6 ft 1/3 inch tall at age 51. According to Dr. Hall's chart here Click Here most white men do not lose any perceptible amount of height between age 20 and 50, yet by age 70 they can lose 1 to 2 inches. It is very possible Ford was a full 6 ft 1 in the morning, in his 20's, 30's and 40's. But he seems a full two inches shorter now, which is consistent with a man of his age (almost 71).

He was certainly at least 6ft1 in the Star Wars movies. He sustained a back injury while filming Temple of Doom which hindered his posture and thus reducing his height an inch or so.

182cm. Tall but not to tall.
lizzieb said on 7/Nov/11
Of course we can also take a cue from his height against his Raiders co-stars. We know he is about the same height, perhaps a little shorter, as John Rhys Davis, who is best remembered for his seminal role as dwarf Gimli in Lord of the Rings. Gimli can be only slightly taller than a hobbit, thus makinging him around 4ft tall. Same as Harrison.

thank you slysi. I think I may have over estimated the heigt of the staff of Ra in relatuon to Harrison. Ckearly it is only a head's length taller than him. The average head length, including turban is 12" or 1' so I'd like to propose a new calculation: 6 ft take away 1 kadan Yto honor the hebrew god) makes the staff 5 ft and Harrison a much more respectable 4 ft. Maybe 4ft 1, as it is a bad camera angle and 6 kadan is only ROUGHLY 72 inches, so we're working with estimates from the start. Looking back, I see that 3 ft 6 was a bit ridiculous and 4 ft is defibitely more plausible, given the evidence.

Ford always gave an impression of a tall man. At least 5'11 today, at least 6' peak.

@james:
i hope you're joking...considering someone who's 60 or more years has the same height from the morning to the night because his vetebral disks are definetly shrunk...Ford has in the morning and also in the evening the same height: 5 ft 11 in.
James said on 12/Oct/11
he would still be over 6ft in the morning in 2011.

He's still 6' and can look 5'11 with bad posture.

Kid, you gotta stop doing this. He is not 6'0" anymore at 70 years of age. He's at most 5'11" with GOOD posture these days.
Johan Cruyff said on 12/Oct/11
lorne, you're completely mad!!!
Harrison Ford has never been 6'0.75"-1"...perhaps you're drunk...
At his peak he was a soli 6 ft 0 in and today he's 5 ft 11 in! THAT'S THE TRUTH!!!

this guy looks 5 ft 10.5 in with daniel craig and dee williams , he might be 5 ft 10.75-11 today , rob could he be under 182 today he realy looks barely 5 ft 11

I agree, Dmeyer. Ford looked no taller than Craig, although Ford's posture is very poor these days, he couldn't have had him by more than a cm or 2. Not mention, he often looks 179.5-180cm, again, you have to account for posture, but he just doesn't look over 5'11 anymore.

For now, I say drop both hi peak height AND current height 0.25in. I am 100% certain Ford measured 6ft1 in his prime, but he was a weak 6ft1. That is to say, he most likely measured 185.5-186cm first thing in the morning, but by lunchtime he was a tad under 6'1", and by the time he went to sleep at night, he may have even been near 6ft0.5in, but not lower than that.

Nowadays, he hits 5'11", FLAT, though this is his lowest height, in the evening, and is probably 181cm range in the afternoon, if he stood up straight.

In conclusion:

Harrison Ford's Height is:

Peak Height: 6ft0.75in/185cm (minimum 6ft0.5in/184.5 evening height, and maximum 6f1-6ft1.25in/185.5-186cm morning height)

Current Height: 5ft11.25in/181cm( 5ft11 flat by the evening, maybe a solid 182 cm after a good nights sleep)

We can work this out from Raider of the Lost Arc. The staff of Ra is approximately 72 inches (6ft) "take back one kadam" which makes it about 5 foot. In the film, Indie is about 1.5 foot shorter than the staff so Harrison Ford MUST be, by the law of physics, 3ft 6.
James said on 6/Oct/11
Like Morgan Freeman he has only lost 1-2cm from his peak.

With his poor posture he can look as much as 3-4cm shorter than he was in his prime.
Chris said on 5/Oct/11
Oh no!He is a lot shorter than that.I would say 5'10-5'10.5 but no more than that.In "Star Wars" he looks small. But great actor in my opinion.

He was 6ft 0.5in at peak and is no more than 5ft 11.25in today, probably 180 cm.
James said on 3/Oct/11
he looks 5'10.75-5'11 cause off posture and back problems. if straightend up he'd be around 6'.
miko said on 3/Oct/11
Looks like he's losing height in the neck, upper back area.

I must say he's not looking much over 5'11 today.

Either 180/181 seems about right for today. I'd personally go with 181cm for now.
Dural said on 3/Oct/11
If he looks 5'10.5" today, then he might be exactly that. I don't agree with 6'1" peak either, more like 6' or 6'0.5".

well defenintly by the time off the last crusde he looked closer too a flat 6ft next too Sean Connery...i guess his posture can make him look shorter though becuase even way back in 1989 all thos eyears off doing stunts and injuring himself in temple where having an effect on his posture.

but anyway i'd say he looked a solid 184cm with connery.
Voiceless Dental Fricative said on 29/Sep/11
