I think he's a good 5'11" however his posture is terrible so on occasion he even looks as low as 5'10" next to Shia The Beef for example. Most actors look taller in their youth but body proportion is deceptive like that. Just look at Arm Pitt....

Harrison Ford has never been 6'1" at his low height. When he was in his youth he was like Nick Nolte:
Morning (out of bed)= 6'0.85" (1.85 m)

A guy I worked with who was about 6'1 was an extra on Presumed Innocent and he said Ford was about 5'8 or 5'9. Could be the slouch thing. But he looks that height in full length stills I've seen over the years.

I think Rob's estimate on his current height is spot on, can look 5'11 and 6 ft at the same time, which also matches up to near 5'11.5er Frank2's estimate; it's hard to differentiate half in difference, but the peak and current height listing is fine for Ford, give or take 1/2 in
I've looked at the Ford & Craig's recent pic, and here's my deduction.
- On 1 pic, when Ford put his hand behind his back, he actually standing 1/2 in shorter than his 5'11.5 erect height. This is mentioned by Rob and Mamun, on the discussion of Willis' height. So on that moment, Ford is 5'11. Craig is a few step closer to the camera, but he bends his leg slightly, so I guess any camera advangtage is mostly negated. And Craig looks the same height if not edging a hair over Ford. So Craig looks 5'11.25, which can only mean he's having 1 in lift in his 1.25 dress shoes or some kind of standard elevator shoes (Don-type ) to look 1in taller than his strong 5'10 height, and his shoes do look suspicious.

I wonder if like clint eastwood this guy does not stand well cause even in the 80's he could look 5'11. In working girl he looked a good 1 inch under the 6ft mark i thought. Although that said I thought in Frantic (which came out the same year as working girl) he seemed taller than 5'11 like 6ft?

He was for sure an hair shorter than Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner, but there isn't a decent pic with them together to compare heights. Hauer looked 186-187 at peak (6'1.25 to 6'1.5) and Ford 184-185 (6'0.5 to 6'0.75), certainly over 6'0 but not quite 6'1.

At his peak definitely 6 foot 1. Probably only about 6 foot now, but thats barefoot. He usually wore boots in his movies(not for aesthetic reasons hes already tall enough) which added a considerable amount of height.

In Working Girl gave a 5'10 'illusion'. Bad posture? It was clear even by then that all those years of stunts and injuires took a toll on his posture for sure, esspecially the hernia he went through in the temple of doom.
6'2 and even a full 6'1 is unlikely for his peak though and even in normal sized trianers he would get no higher than 187cm.

In Working Girl gave a 5'10 'illusion'. Bad posture? It was clear even by then that all those years of stunts and injuires took a toll on his posture for sure, esspecially the hernia he went through in the temple of doom.
6'2 and even a full 6'1 is unlikely for his peak though and even in normal sized trianers he would get no higher than 187cm.

There is a reason why men and women lose their height with age, its not that their bones get smaller, its the cartilage in the bones that recede with age, especially in the spine, the aging process can take away as much as three inches of height, and this is mostly due to cartilage. That is why Ford is now around 5'11", in his prime he was 6'1", maybe even 6'2".

Oh god I am gonna get stick for this. Okay at times I thought Harrison Ford could look 5'11 in Working Girl. Of course he was at least 1 inch over that mark when Working Girl came out.
I think Harrison Fords peak was 6'1/2-6'.75 max. So I reckon at his peak Ford stood around 184cm. Becaue of injuries I think Harrison Ford might have lost a fraction and was like 6'.25 when Working Girl was made. But then again I don't know for sure.

Hugh I don't think they both really stood next to each other properly in Patriot Games. When they battle on the boat it isn't easy either to gauge how much of a difference there is between them.

I don't think Ford was ever 6'1. I got the impression of 6'0.25 - 6'0.5. Sean Connery was 1.25 - 1.5 inches taller than him in Jones. I see comments below that he was only slightly shorter, but I don't think that is true. If you look at the premier photos Connery is definitely 1.25- 1.5 inches taller than Ford. I disagree with the claims that he has shrunk by such a great degree. He still looks about 6ft from what I can tell.

i bump into moby all the time and joke that he has to put out a metal album again.or a hardcore album again.moby is originally a heavy metal artist.in the sense he was in a hardcore punk band and he put out an industrial/ambient/metal album under the name moby called name animal rights.which influenced axl roses experimental side.im not friends with either.princess diana and mother teresa both visited the south bronx.imagine that pic.i think diana walked past me once.

Well Glenn I was willing to end the debate until you got Banned, and I saw the pic of you with the rather large heels on the Natalie Portman page! That coupled with the fact that many people are unsure of your actual height, to be honest made me doubt the validity of your claims! When you meet up with Rob and we have confirmation of your height that will gibe this debate more closure! I'm not ruling out he might have been 6ft1 in his younger days, but I still have a hard time seeing him as that tall in 1997 when the above picture was taken! Maybe I'm wrong? By the way I am elsewhere on this site on, you just got to give a closer look.

No offense Glenn, but why should you be anymore shocked then any of the other celeb's heights who are debated frequently on here ie. Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Brad Pitt, etc...? I agree he could give the appearance of 6ft1 in Star Wars and Apocalypse Now, but from pretty much 1980 on he's looked 6ft and steadily dropping, and in the last 10 years or so he's given the impression of a 5ft11+ guy. I don't know when you last saw the movie Witness(1985), but Ford was virtually the same height albeit maybe an inch taller then Viggo Mortensen(listed at 5ft11, but many think he's more like 5ft10-5ft10.5) who had a cameo.

im just shocked this is still going on.i do agree he can look 5-11,6ft in early films too.so i wonder if he was 6-1.but in person he was always 6-1 to me and my friends.and looked it in star wars and apocalypse now at least.maybe not in other movies.

In the film The Conversation, Hackman looked at least 2" taller than him. In one scene there was about 3". There's no way he could have been 6'1". That would put Hackman at almost 6'4".

James I agree with your assessment! I too think Ford has only looked 6ft in the majority of his films, and for the last 10 years or so only in the 5ft11 range. Costner has always looked like a legit 6ft1, as opposed to Ford who only gave that impression in his films from the late 70's and earlier. Once again I'd say the only time on screen he's looked near 6ft1 was in his films prior to 1981! In some shots in Raiders of the Lost Ark he looked it, the same goes for Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, The Conversation, and Apocalypse Now! But to me, from Blade Runner(1982) on he's looked at best near 6ft, and then steadily dropping to a 5ft11ish looking guy in the late 80's to the present! He looks practically identical in size to Jay Leno when he's come on his show in the last 10 years or so, and he was absolutely dwarfed by both Josh Hartnett(6ft2.75) and Liam Neeson(6ft4) in the films they made together which are only 5-6 years old!

In this picture Ford looks like a weak 6 ft but it's obvious that he isn't standing his tallest. Glenn has met him and saw 6'1" plus Glenn could have had a pavement advantage in this picture. I have no problem believing Harrison was 6'1".

I dont think he has dropped that much. He still looked really tall in Sean Connery's tribute ceremony. I think peak he was close to 6'2. Probably about 6'1 now.

To me he looked only 5'11 in the Indy films, so i would say 5'11.5 peak and now an inch shorter. He was listed at 6'0 when Star Wars came out. As he fame grew so did his height.
He looked short in Working Girl. (around 5'10)

This is just plain silly! I've met him and I'm 5'11" and he was taller by at least an inch, maybe two. That was back in the mid-1980s. He's only a few years older than me. I was recently measured for a physical and I was still 5'11". And I have a bad back with a disintegrating lower disc. I doubt he's lost that much height.

Harrison came to guatemala 2 years ago to do some funding for the rain forest. I ha d a chance to meet him quickly. i`m 1.81 meters barefoot. He appeard 1 inch shorter. we had about the same footwear. I`m guessing he`s about 5`10.5 barefoot. probably 5'11.5 in his peak, with shoes that will give you the 6`1 he`s credited for

thanks acg for that well thought out post.remember,stallone and colin farrell must both be 5-8,5-9 cause people choose to ignore my pics.they do that with alot of my pics here.and i think you left out a big part,though you were brilliant in your execution,i do this all for free.the site wouldnt be fun with just d-list actors and wrestlers.though grown men here have a fetish for wrestlers and extremely tall men.i applaud the pics anyway as we need them.nobody beats my a-list,diversity,or my years though.
