I'm 6-foot-4, and when I got to Washington I was probably 220 or 225 pounds. By the time I left I was 250. I remember when I got on the scale naked and weighed in at 246 - I couldn't believe it.

Honestly he's an odd case because there are a lot of times where he looks like he'd struggle to break over 6'2" (which, to be fair, is still quite tall - bear in mind the 5'9" average man) while others he looks like he might actually scrape on 6'3". I'm pretty familiar with the 6'2" range, being 6'2" myself, and he definitely does NOT look in any case like he'd ever be coming in at 2 inches taller than me given how he stacks up next to actors who are in the 5'8" range. He looks barely any different in terms of height advantage vs a 5'8" ish guy like Glover than I do vs my 5'8" mother. He might be 6'2" in flat feet and closer to 6'3" early morning. I definitely don't see him being over 6'3" and probably -I have a strong feeling - he's 6'2.5". If you caught him on the street, 4 PM, with a shaved head and zero footwear (that'd be weird) - basically took away all morning, hair and footwear advantage - I strongly suspect he'd be closer to 6'2" to 6'2.5". He looks to be around Chevy Chase but Chase is OLD these days and likely has lost significant height and has poor posture, so I seriously doubt Chase himself is even 6'3" either. A 6'2" guy can EASILY look 6'3" to 6'3.5" in the right footwear vs someone wearing flat-bottom shoes. Myself, in my boots I break over 6'3" despite my 6'2" height.

To be fair to Joel, that guy is too much closer to the camera to tell the "real" difference between them, without considering the fact that you can't see their footwear... But I've always said that he wasn't over 6'3.5! ;)

I don't think it's too crazy to think he's a weak 6'3". Could definitely be 6'3.75" right after waking up, and drop to 6'2.9" by the time he sleeps. Crazier things happen when you've got a massively long torso like Joel has.

He came across as 6'2" to me while watching Community before I knew his real height. But considering Pierce is 6'2"ish himself and Abed is close to 6 I wouldn't put McHale at anything lower than 6'3.5". He has horrible posture on the show as well.

@Lo sgozzatore: You have to look at McHale's postural habits as well. He is constantly tilting his head down and never really standing as straight as he could. If he straightened up he'd obviously be 6'3.5 at the very least.

I was a featured extra on community very recently. He is the tallest actor I have seen yet in hollywood, possibly the tallest person I've seen in this town in general. 6'4 at least. I'm 5'10'' and he made me feel super short :)

Did anyone else see "The Soup's Salute to the WWE"? It was pretty a pretty good episode. They had several wrestlers on there including Broadus Clay, The Miz, Rey Mysterio and Daniel Bryan. Clay and McHale looked the same height on that. Mysterio looked to be standing on a box anytime he was around McHale.

Editor Rob well from the clips I've seen of him he can look shorter with loose posture, but other times he looks no less than 6ft 3.5-4 to me

Have you seen him next to Aaron Paul, Michael Emerson? Take a Jared Padalecki, who is a legit 6'4, he makes Milo Ventimiglia look like a child. And Milo is supposed to be taller than those guys. You say not 6'3, but for sure not 6'4. Why you keep him at 6'4?

Editor Rob look at him with nathan fillion, I wouldn't say he was just flat 6ft 3, but could be anywhere in between. In a lot of clips I can see his height change as he drops posture

I already saw that, i bet Betsy Brandt is in flat shoes or very short heels and Anna Gunn is wearing a bit higher heels, but nothing huge! I am sure! There's also a vid with Aaron Paul and he makes Aaron Paul look near 5'10, when he clearly he fights to look 5'8 on the show! I just saw a pic of a backstage (not the same vid) of Mchale and Betsy Brandt. She's wearing 3 inch heels, he's wearing nike air max (which give about 1.3 inches) and he looks about 4 inches taller than her! If he was 6'4, he'd be almost 6'5.5 in those shoes and she's d be 6'1.5 in heels, absolutely impossible! He's a 6'3 flat guy, maybe a good one! A Tom Welling, who claims less, wouldnt be shorter! Why dont you trust me for once?

Editor Rob as zach, although if you look around you can see he could be 2 inches taller than nate fillion so I wouldn't say he was much shorter than 6ft 3.5 when standing at his tallest

At best he's 6'3, he'd be shorter than a Tom Welling or Sacha Baron Cohen for sure! 6'4 is hilarious
