@MD: announcers exaggerate with the best of them. I agree with you. KD would be maybe 6'9 1/2-3/4 tops. under the 6-10 mark is how he looks IRL
Joe said on 10/Aug/16
Kevin Durant probably wasn't standing as straight as he could. I'd say he's 6'9.5'' barefoot.
MD said on 8/Aug/16
Who cares what the announcers say? He hasn't even ever claimed 7'0" and it's obvious that he's not, so who cares?

Announcers at the olympics keep saying hes 7'0 and his 6'9 listing is bogus.

Hes 6ft 9 but taller than many 6ft 9 and 6ft 10s listed even taller than garnett whos listed 6ft 11

@Joe: in that pics less than four inches. My guess for Green is he's 196-197 maybe 6'5.5 or slightly under and Durant 6'9 and change. Green and Klay look the same or green may edge Klay out in other pics

@Height: you made an excellent point. Videos are good comparisons esp if side by side. I saw what you were saying for Manning and Kobe Bryant and they are close in height. It's tough to tell honestly. I see manning as slightly taller but not more than 1/2". The thing with Manning is I can't pin down whether he's the 6'5.25 after the neck surgeries only because he looked shorter than JJ Watt in the PP Johns commercials. But agree he's at minimum a flat 6'5 even to this day. Looked a cm shorter. I'd easily buy 6'5.25 or 3/8 prime however. If he is 6'5 that may explain why they look the same esp if Kobe is as high 195flat because it'd be 1/4 diff

@Canson

I agree, but you shouldn't fall on the same trap. Sometimes there are better pics, and if the pic is not that good a detailed explanation of it and how it just shows a general panorama or comparison is good.
Canson said on 19/Jul/16
@Height: let's be honest here. The pics people post site wide are not that great and none of the all star pics are that great either. However the pics are always "horrendous" when someone is explaining why someone "isn't as tall as everyone wants to make them" and you know that is true. Look at some of the garbage posted on Barkley's page. Two people (I won't mention names) posted a pic of him with Magic and on Saturday night live where there is no way you'd be able to tell a difference unless they are maybe 5-7" apart in height. But when the pic is to make someone taller the pic is deemed "conclusive" that's what is frustrating is that most people want to inflate heights here. I know in your case you at least make valid points and have been relatively balanced for the most part but you do understand what I'm saying as well? Right?
Canson said on 19/Jul/16
@Height: he's not 200 flat. I said 200 range. 200.66 is 6'7" that's about what Pippen has always been. And yes I agree that he and Magic are close in height. But my opinion (you stated it yourself) that magic is 6'7.25 or was prime. So you're correct no significant difference. I can look at other pics of penny and Jordan and Penny looks physically taller and longer and that says a lot especially as long as Jordan already is. So 1.5-1.75" is possible and I wouldn't take what Phil said too seriously. He's called Rodman 6'8 before and Porzangis 7'3" and has exaggerated other heights before. That article was "reverse" psychology that he listed himself 2" shorter it said but in reality he used his barefoot height of 6'7 and not his shoes. Pippen is more than likely 6'8 in shoes

@ Canson

Again I don't mean to pick on the pictures you post, but that all star team pic is no different than the capture I mede from the 95 team. We can't conclude from that pic that Pippen is just 200 cm or that Hill is taller than him. Or that MJ is 1.75 inches shorter than Penny, especially after checking below that MJ's feet have a wider stance than Penny's.

Pippen doesn't even look as short as a flat 201 cm guy from what I've seen from him in over 17 years. If you carefully watch footage from him guarding Magic you will see he can sometimes appear taller than Magic. My guess is that there is no significant difference between the two of them. Even Phil Jackson has referred to him as 6'9"on the court (most probably referring to his height with shoes).

Anyway back on topic with Durant.
Canson said on 17/Jul/16
@Height: also from the pic I posted, Miller is about 1/4" shorter than Penny. Miller practically is a legit 6'6 (I don't think he falls below 6'5 3/4 but I def see him sub 6'6 at night). I don't think Penny falls below 6'6. Penny looks 1.5-1.75" taller than Jordan in the pic. So yea MJ would measure 6'4.75 earlier and likely fall to 6'4.5ish at night. So yea he'd measure 6'5 as well in the morning. My point is he isn't a guy (neither is Kobe) who Sustain that. They are weak 6'5s
Canson said on 17/Jul/16
@Height: Pippen and Jordan both "appear" taller than contemporaries. And that's their length that makes it appear that way. I honesty don't believe MJ is any taller than Stackhouse or Nick Anderson at least nothing that is noticeable. Of course could be 1/8" or 1/4" but truthfully we cannot see that. In my opinion Magic looks taller than Pippen does in the pics together maybe by 1/2" or they appear similar in height
Canson said on 17/Jul/16
@Shane: I agree with everything you said. Kerr may have been 6'2 in his prime. He had some back issues (surgery as well) of late
Shane said on 16/Jul/16
Kerr absolutely under 6'2" barefoot... I think Pippen likely a legit or very near 6'7" barefoot in am but might drop to 6'6" 3/8.. I think Durant can go as low as 6'9" but seems taller due to everyone else in NBA using shoe heights and his long, lean build.
Canson said on 16/Jul/16
@Height: you made a very good point about pics however. It's likely why opinions from across the board on this site are skewered. For example Someone posted a pic of Barkley with a supposed 6'7" guy when in reality it's skewed in favor of Barkley. And many others like that. People have problems with the pics people post (in my opinion) if they are making someone shorter but when they make someone taller they are all of a sudden "top notch" holy grail. In reality 90% of these pics on this site are inconclusive. First hand encounters are always the best esp with people close in height to someone like Pippen Jordan Barkley Durant Lebron etc. also the words of teammates in my opinion carries more weight than most of the pics
Canson said on 16/Jul/16
@Height:

This pic is of them at the all star game in 1996. Hill looks taller than Pippen even with no hair (Pippen has a flat top). It's not much diff but I'd put Grant at 201-202 and Pippen at 6'7 flat max. I've seen pics with he and Penny. Penny was in the books as measuring 6'6 flat but you could be right that he's 6'6.25 (it's odd the NBA wouldn't round up because that's unheard of) but in that case Pippen only has about 1/2" on Penny. Benefit of the doubt is 3/4. With that id put Scottie right in the 200 range. He never looked a lot taller than Rodman to be honest. Maybe a full centimeter. Maybe 1/2"

@Canson

If anything, Magic and Pippen are the same height. On the court Scottie has never seemed noticeable shorter than Magic, always the same or a tad taller.

210 cm out of bed, 208 cm at night.
Canson said on 14/Jul/16
@Height: I'd go more with 201.2-.5 for Magic and 200.7 for Pippen. I wouldn't put Scottie anything over a solid 6'7 honestly.
Height said on 13/Jul/16
@Canson

It depends on the pictures you have seen. He can appear shorter if the angle doesn't favor him. Many times it's just a matter of who is closer to the camera.

For example, I know for a fact that Grant Hill isn't any shorter than 200 cm. But If see this picture and compare him to Larry Johnson he looks 197.5cm / 198 cm:

So maybe the pics you seen next to Hill or Hardaway or even Rodman, don't favor Pippen. He is for sure taller (not by much, 1 cm -1.5 cm) than Hill who is more a 200 cm - 200.7 cm guy at his lowest that I can tell you for sure.
Canson said on 12/Jul/16
@Height: LJ looked similar to Butler but I can't tell 1/4" except from a reflection or eye level being lower. But when I saw LJ he looked somewhere in the range 196.25-196.85. Yea he'd prob be close to Thunder Dan. I've seen others class him as 6'5 as well so him falling below 1/2" isn't unfathomable. Pippen wasn't taller than Magic was. Magic always looked taller than him sometimes by 1/2". I've seen people class Pippen as "6'7" in shoes to be honest. More than one as a matter of fact. Now I doubt he'd be a solid 6'6 but I can see 6'7 in shoes meaning he's 6'7.5 range (of course that's at his lowest) and in a Low sneaker he'd be 6'6.75 still. He looks a legit 6'7 (201) imho and sometimes he can look only about as tall as Penny hardaway does and shorter than Grant Hill (a true 201-202 guy). Pippen in all reality wasn't that much taller than worm. I've even seen pics with them the same or Rodman taller looking
Canson said on 11/Jul/16
He looks taller than a prime Larry Bird. They're similar players too
Height said on 11/Jul/16
@ Canson

I think Howard is 6'9", maybe 6'9.25" at most. Larry Johnson has always seemed a legit 6'5.5" guy to me (same height as Dan Majerle), while Pippen has always been about 3 cm taller than Rodman, and has always seemingly been at least a tad taller than Magic. I have Pippen at 202 cm and Magic at 201.5cm

Somewhere between 6ft9-10 range is likely. Could be a solid 207cm. At least he's honest about his height in shoes. I reckon he'd be around 6ft11 in sneakers if he is closer to 6ft10.
jtm said on 9/Jul/16

Durant with claimed 6'3" Steve Kerr and 6'7" Warriors GM Bob Myers. Can't see footwear but assuming all are in similar dress shoes, KD looks near 6'10" here. Myers has hair advantage so I would put top of his head at Durant's brow ridge. Kevin has a small head for his frame but still larger than the average man, so 3 inches above Myers seems seems like a safe bet.

My estimates (at lowest not morning): keep in mind especially in later years they're all morning.

Garnett: 6'11 flat
Durant: 6'9.5
Howard 6'9.5 (same as KD)
Boogie: 6'9 flat
Deandre Jordan: 6'9.75
Kevin Love: 6'7.5
Bird: 6'9
Magic: 6'7.25
Pip: 6'7
Rodman: 6'6.5
LBJ: 6'6.5-.75
Melo: 6'6.25
Livingston: 6'6.25
Iggy: 6'5.75
Kawhi Leonard: 6'5 1/2-3/4 (morning 6'6) marginally shorter than Iggy
Jimmy Butler: 6'5.5" (morning 6'6)
Draymond Green: 6'5.25 (morning 6'5.75)
Klay: 6'5.25 (morning 6'5.75)
Derozan: 6'5 (morning 6'5.5)
Larry Johnson: 6'5.25
Caron Butler: 6'5.25
Barkley: 6'4 5/8
Kobe: 6'4 5/8
Jordan: 6'4 5/8

I agree with Height on this one. He looks while still 6'9 range for sure, closer to 6'10. I'd say he's prob what Bill Russell was in his prime 6'9.5-.7. They did say once that he "asked" to be listed at 6'9 on the thunder roster but likely saying he didn't want his shoe measurement. And that's likely his lowest. And that was when he compared his height (quite recently) to Chris Paul's but he looks generally the mid 207 range to most. I can see Boogie as only a flat "at most" 6'9 primarily because he was measured when everything was then done in the morning (2010 draft) after Blake and Steph curry were drafted (2009, which was when they began the morning measurements) and was one of the bigger names. he was only 19 or 20 but not far fetched he could've grown but doubtful with KD and DJ who is 6'9.75 himself. for a guy who is already undersized for a center even if boogie were legitimately 6'10 or 6'9.5 he'd def be an early measurement of the earlies. On a SN, It was hilarious that boogie told him not to stand next to him because ppl will think he's only 6'7 lol.
J.Lee said on 6/Jul/16
Rob, do you think he's only 6 ft 9.25? Everyone always says he's much taller than that. People even say he's 7 foot tall. He is taller than other NBA players who list themselves at 6 foot 11.
Editor Rob
6ft 10 is arguable for him.
Rifle said on 5/Jul/16
No less than 6'9.5" without a doubt.
Canson said on 4/Jul/16
@D1athlete: I think he grew a hair. Cousins is probably only a flat 6'9 (likely a morning measurement whereas I think Durant definitely got an afternoon measurement). I mean I can't see KD under 6'9 at any point. He may be 6'9.5 tho
Height said on 4/Jul/16
Cousins is 6'9.5". Like Rob said, the angle slightly favors KD, only slightly (see the link from D1Athlete's post).

Like Rampage(-_-_-)Clover and DRE, I've always believed he is closer to 208 cm barefoot than to 206 cm, and the very least for him is 6'9.75"

This is another case of the "NBA Basketball generalists" eye in my opinion. Even if he is 208 cm on the dot, that still gives him and other NBA experts sense to claim that he is 6'9", because 208 cm flat is still inside 6'9" (exactly 6'9.88"). This is also the reason why others call him and see him at least as 6'10"... another example of how the majority of minds in the business (including himself) are ignoring the subtle differences inside a height range.

P.S. Metric system for the win!
D1Athlete said on 4/Jul/16

Agree, no photo is ideal, but these are the best I've come across. From what I can see only Parker, Paul and Wall are clearly closer than the rest, and judging from what I can see of the feet of the relevant players. Another point being that Howard doesn't look to have grown much since measuring 6'9'' at the combine, maybe 0.25"? Unfortunately the notion that KD (and even Howard) is a "seven footer" has gained foothold in the media. "Don't believe the listing" is uttered at least once each Thunder game ... Same with 7'3" Porzingis. The Knicks measured him at 7'1.25" w/o shoes and 7'2.5" with shoes leading to the 7'3" official listing. Lillard measured at 6'1.75" at the combine (22 years old). Still, I've become suspicious of the pre-draft measurements after seeing Bosh and Noah next to each other.
Duhon said on 27/Nov/15
Those All-Star line-up shots are pretty good for comparing the heights of different player, the only thing though is that if a player is standing slightly closer or farther back compared to others that does impact how tall they appear on those shots. Some players seem to stand a little further back than others at time.

The strangest thing in this photo is Damian Lillard next to Chris Paul and compared to Tony Parker, although TP is on the left side of the photo.

Paul (6'0''?) and Parker (6'1.25''?) are obviously closer to the camera but still, Lillard certainly seems under 6'2''.

And Davis seems quite strange in that photo! His head makes him look like a character from The Men In Black films :P

Durant looks similar to lamarcus aldrige and chris bosh who are both 6"10.25 barefoot(use google image search), the duo does not appear to have a inch on Durant...... I think it's Kevin Durant's very slim build that gives the impression of him being taller, maybe that's why the commentators often say they think he's about 6'11". It's possible the NBA's listing of 240lbs (109kg) is more than he actually weighs.

Even by basketball standards, this guy has a strange build. Like, he's that one kid in high school who grew really tall so they made him center on the team, and he eventually fills out, except that Durant - who has been in the league since 2007 - hasn't filled in. There is no way the 240lb number is accurate for this guy.
Arch Stanton said on 16/Apr/15
Do the NBA actually do half listings? I almost always see it rounded to a full inch I think, so if he really measured this and perhaps 6'10.5 in sneakers they'd usually round up to 6'11? All I know is that a lot of players are listed at roughly 1.25-1.5 inches taller than their barefoot height. A 6'7 listed basketball player is usually in 6'5.5-6'6 range from what I've seen.

from looking at him, I think he can pull off being over 6ft 9 at times, so a strong 6ft 9 range I think is better.

Often a guy this height barefoot is listed at 6'10.5 even 6'11 by the NBA.

With the name, he's far too easy to confuse with the Canadian actor Kevin Durand LOL, I think Durant is much more famous though, generally!

Rob, what kind of joke was saying he's 6'7? Anyway, how much difference you see in this picture? Click Here

maybe if you get asked the question a lot, sometimes you come out with a low value? I've no idea...

With the grey haired guy he looks maybe nearly 2.5 inches under his chin, so a bit more than a foot difference is possible.

Odd but he's listed at 6 ft 9 isn't he? Taller than listing? That's rare. Based on 6 ft 9 listing you'd expect a similar height to Bjornsson and a whisker under 6'8!

I can believe his 6ft 10 shoe claim, but I think he can look over 6ft 9 aswell.

Heights are barefeet estimates, derived from quotations, official websites, agency resumes, in person encounters with actors at conventions and pictures/films.

Other vital statistics like weight or shoe size measurements have been sourced from newspapers, books, resumes or social media.
