At most Kurt had a 1 inch advantage over the other actors in Tombstone in long shots because they all were already wearing cowboy boots and I didn't see a platform on Kurt's boots.

When Russell was making the John Carpenter TV Elvis movie and I talked to him when he drove into my college's parking lot (used by the production company during the summer). He was an inch or two short of my 6', and wearing hiking boots. So 5'10 at the very best, and I doubt shorter than 5'9".

If I remember rightly, there is a scene in Big Trouble in Little China where Russell is barefoot, next to Kim Cattrell. Now I don't recall the shot clearly, but I think he was about nearly 2-inches taller than her, and she was in shoes.

He only 3 inches max shorter than 6'2" Lee Van Cleef in Escape From New York and in some scenes he looked atleast an inch taller than 5'9" Ernest Borgnine(though in others I didn't get the impression that Kurt would be taller).
Maybe Russell wears lifts in films because 5'9" seems more accurate than 5'10" for some reason.

Russel didn't look dwarfed next to Steven Seagal in Executive Decision. Seagal looked 6'5" in that film but Russell looked like a 5'10 or 5'11" guy certainly not short. Looked only about 6 inches shorter than Seagal.

In The Best of Times he looked a couple of inches taller than Robin Williams.Williams is down as 5ft6-7 on here,and considering Rising Force and Tellem's estimates for Jack Warden it may be fair to say Russell's height is 5ft9: two-inches taller than Williams at his 5ft7 peak, and an inch shorter than Warden.

i've never seen that movie. jack warden was as tall or a hair taller than 5-9.5, 5-10 paul newman in the verdict. so minimum 5-10 for warden.

Looking at Kurt in Tequila Sunrise he appears significantly taller than Mel Gibson, who is meant to be 5ft 9-ish. Funny enough there is a photo on the web with Sly Stallone standing next to Gibson, who both look the same height, which is strange as Sly and Kurt appeared the same height in Tango and Cash! I saw Stallone atleast an inch taller when they were walking barefoot, especially considering Kurt's big hair. But in some scenes when they had shoes he looked atleast 2 inches taller. I'm not sure if he ever had 3 inches on him though.

If Kurt was listed at 5'10, when he played baseball, then we all know heights in sport are nearly always inflated, by usually 2 inches. he was most likely was 5'8 maybe 5'8.5 then he would then be listed at 5'10.

She did get to meet Kurt Russell as well, and I know this is going to be hard to believe. Forget the pics of Goldie and Kurt. According to my coworker, Kurt was very little, and get this, stood no more than 5'6." Goldie, hard to believe this, was no taller than him in her heels, and with Kurt being 5'6," you would think that Goldie would topple over him in heels. I've seen the footwear from the Rocky Premiere and Sly has huge shoes/lifts that probably add a good 3 inches to his barefoot height but regardless considering he has to be in the 6'1"-6'2" range in those shoes that points to him being about 5'10 1/2" or 5'10 3/4" barefoot.
That's my whole point, he can look too tall at times to be anything under 5'10".

With them on he was about my height, maybe a tad taller. Without them he shrunk down considerable. So much so that the film editor I was assisted commented that he was a shrimp! But perhaps we were both wrong. The security people are all wrong. Everyone who questions his height is wrong.
I give up arguing on this. It's pretty silly. I know what I know and if others don't wish to believe me, that's their right.

Rob, my last comment didn't make sense when I read it again. I meant, Kurt looks taller than Stallone in Tango and Cash and vice versa. I think however both barefoot are 5ft 8. I think 5ft 9 is an inch over the bar.

He never appeared short to me. Has looked average to me in every film including Escape from New York,The Thing,Tango and Cash,etc.. He is definetly 5'10 or taller because he is very long-legged and carries himself well. At least 5'10.

I would agree that he looks 5'8-5'9 in Escape From New York, they seem to have hired actors that aren't extremely tall to make him seem comparably on the tall side.

This is so funny that I saw this site with Kurt Russel's height. I was actually standing right next to him today. My height is 5'5 3/4 and he did't seem to much taller than myself. It was so funny! I recognized him but, I didn't know where I knew him from. Had he not been in the middle of a conversation, I would have asked where I knew him from. I stood there for a brief moment and then decided to enter the place of buisness. When I stepped inside the employee's were discussing the fact that Kurt Russel just left. I giggled because, I was thinking how funny it would have been if I had actually asked him where I knew him from. He probably would have thought I was dizzy and I hope he would have thought it was funny to. After I knew it was Kurt, I russhed to the window to have a second look and I saw him getting into a vehicle with a blonde! Probably Goldie or maybe thier daughter. 5'8" sounds on point, Jason Scott Lee is supposedly 5'10" and in Soldier he was at the very least, 2-3inches taller than Russell. He looks so short on tv, even with lifts in his sneakers on Dark Blue he looks noticeably shorter than Ving Rhames whos little over 5'11".

He passed inches away by me and my sister on the Warner Brother studio lot while filming Tango and Cash. He had boots on about and was about the height of my 5'10" sister who was wearing tennis shoes. That was 20 years ago. I'd peg him at 5'9" barefoot at that time.

I loved "Grindhouse", but it really wasn't for everyone.
And as for Quentin, I didn't like "Reservoir Dogs" to be honest. "Pulp Fiction" is one of my Top faves. Only saw a few parts of "Jackie Brown", seemed entertaining. Never saw "FDTD" or "Kill Bill". "True Romance", which he didn't direct but write, is my favorite film from him.

1. He got a biggish head and longish hair
2. his neck is kinda long
the neck thing is one of the biggest reasons a short guy can look taller because it elevates the head high and as such even at 5'7 or 5'9 you can look 5'11 even.

I remember seeing Escape from NY when I was a kid and didn't even realize Snake was a tad shorter then alott've people in that movie.. and it didn't matter cause he was a badass in that movie.

In "The Thing", I didn't get the impression he was that short. Although most of the cast was really not very tall. Other than Keith David. I'll have to check out the DVD again and take a closer look at the footwear. Most of the cast had boots one but Russell's could have been larger.
On an aside, if anyone gets the chance, watch the DVD of The Thing with the commentary switched on. John Carpenter and Kurt are quite funny when talking about the film.

I do remember Barry Norman (when he was working for the BBC) interviewed Russell and asked him about how tall he was! Kurt said 5'10 and Barry Norman said i thought you were 5'8!....and Kurt replied 'no....5'10' with a big smile!
I guess he knew that he had been busted....that Mr Norman knew his real height was 5'8!
He does look short on film and in some films he does wears boots and lifts! He is truly 5'8 barefoot at the most!

During the scene where the Earps were walking towards the OK Corral, it is clearly visible how much of a boot they had to give Kurt so he was on par with his co-stars.

That's sounds about right for Kurt. I know he was shorter than me by at least two inches and I'm 5'11". And FYI Elvis was just slightly under six feet. With regards to Kurt in Tombstone, take a good look at the boots he was wearing. I wish I had a pic but I did check out the DVD and his boots have a MAJOR heel on them. He was practically the same height as Val in that movie.

I did security for him and I am 5'9", 190lbs. We both had on normal shoes and he appeared almost my height, but well shy of my weight. Some female security personal were surprised/disappointed that he was short. It's their hang up, not his...he doesn't care.
